View Full Version : How to make your own veil?
I am fed up of seeing expensive veils in these german shops and losing my bids on ebay.
I have the material to make my own veil with pearls sewn around it, but I honestly have no clue how to start!
Does anyone have their own pictures and tips how to make one?? :sweatdrop:

I found a few websites with some DIY veil basics:

I've been thinking about it myself. It doesn't look too challenging. Tedious, perhaps, depending on the length of the veil...but well worth it to save money. :)

I just made my veil this afternoon using the http://www.wegotgame.net/jen/veils.html website. It took about two hours (but I was also in and out retrieving laundry...) but well worth the time. I'm barely past a beginning sewing level and am extremely pleased with my handiwork. I put about ten bucks into my project (got 4 yards of tulle and needed 40 inches...LOL!). I'm sure I'll find a use for the extra tulle, probably in my pew bows. Anyways, I'm here to say YOU CAN DO IT!!!!

I bought a basic veil and just added some starkly (bought at Hobby Lobby) gems with a glue gun. I am not too much of a seamstress lol
I made my mom's veil and it turned out fantastic!!
She bought a $5 white cowgirl hat from Walmart - the kind that is like see through, not solid. Craft stores and Walmart have veils for like $10 with edging on them, so we got one of those. I also got some small strands of white roses from the wedding aisle at Michaels. I used those white roses as "thread" and wove them in and out of the holes in the cowgirl hat and through the top part of the veil. I ended up putting the roses all the way around the hat, but the veil only on the back of the hat. It turned out gorgeous!!
Well i bought all the stuff for my veil and it costed me around 15 Euros (im in Germany by the way.) I bought the fabric but I dont know if i can start it yet because im not quite sure if its the same colour as my dress as its not delivered yet and i cant remember exactly what colour it is. It is two shades darker than white and looks more creamy in natural light but in the store it looked more white. Does this make any sense to you?
Anyway i also bought pearls and little flowers that will go around the rim, i am not sure whether to attach some other fabric for the edges...
I also bought Organza Fabric as they had no Tulle in white.
So i guess i cant start on it, but just incase it is the wrong colour i will use it on my engagement bonboniere.
