What does your house or apartment whatevery you live in look like. How do you decorate it. Just wondering......

When we first got together we didn't have a lot of furniture (just a couch, a few chairs, some small tables, our bedroom furniture and my mother's dining room set) so, we went out to garage sales, flea markets to pick up what we could afford. We refinished some pieces and have bought other pieces one by one, since then. Our style is definitely "chabby chick/country".

LOL not to mention messy and crowded. Note: I haven't shown pics of our so called "guest bedroom". :)
We are really looking forward to getting a home of our own so that we can spread out a bit and also, get our odds and sods of furniture out of storage.

Here's some pics of my house. I'm not really done decorating yet. When I moved into this house last fall, practically everything was Pepto-Bismol pink. The carpet was pink. There was pink wallpaper on several of the walls. The kitchen countertops were a light pink (they still are). I'm going for this French/Paris thing throughout the house.
My living room colors are red, black, and white (same as my wedding colors). I just bought a new couch a couple weeks ago and it hasn't come in yet, so I still have my old couch with a black slipcover on it:
http://photos.sweetvenus.org/pictures/071117_housewarming/_res/IMG_1244.jpg
The master bedroom colors are gold and brown. I've gotten the walls painted gold, but I still need to buy brown bedding. Also, you can't see it in this pic, but there are brown curtains on the window. Sorry that my FH is blocking most of the view, lol. I was going around taking pictures at my housewarming party and he happened to be in there.
http://photos.sweetvenus.org/pictures/071117_housewarming/_res/IMG_1246.jpg
I've done the least amount of work in the kitchen/dining room. We did put in laminate floors, but I haven't painted or bought new curtains (the ones hanging up were from my old apartment and don't really fit the windows), and I want to put hardware on the cabinets but haven't done that yet. I also eventually want to put in granite countertops.

I don't seem to have any pictures from the upstairs. I'll have to take some later. :)

Love the view of the living room - was that shot taken from a loft bedroom or hallway overlooking the area?
LOL re: the pink. Our apartment was lime green & maroon!

It was from a hallway. Upstairs there is a hallway with two bedrooms and a bath off of it and then it ends at a loft area, which is the office.

Here are some pictures on the day we closed on our house. But we have made a bunch of changes since then:
kitchen:
http://i238.photobucket.com/albums/ff190/danielle9608/IMG_3102.jpg
we painted all the cabinet white. But after the wedding we plan to completely remodel this.
dinning room:
http://i238.photobucket.com/albums/ff190/danielle9608/IMG_3120.jpg
We ripped out the pink carpet and put it in our basement. We put down hardwood floors in its place. We kept the light fixture which at first I hated but it grew on me.

I love seeing pictures of houses! I am so jealous of those of you who own homes. I can't wait until we can buy.
This is our apartment. It is a 100 year old former brothel, turned triplex. It's right in the middle of what used to be a famous red light district. Seriously. Crazy, huh?

Peridot Bride, this is going to sound like a *really* strange question, and please feel free to kick me if it's too personal, but I was looking at your pictures and couldn't help noticing the anomalies in there . . . .
Does anybody in your house smoke, and was there anything or anybody smoking at the time you took the pics? (Cigarettes, incense, etc?) and secondly, What are your thoughts about the paranormal?
Oh, I guess I have another question too -- do you know anything else about the history of your house? Have there been any stories about people having traumatic experiences there?

Jon smokes, but never in the house. I was the only one home when I took the pics, and I don't smoke or burn incense. The pics were taken last summer, maybe a month after we moved in. The only smoke I can think of might be coming in from the terrible forest fires we were having. Also, the guys downstairs smoke, and it could rise into our apartment maybe?
As for the history of the houe, I mentioned in the post with the pictures: "This is our apartment. It is a 100 year old former brothel, turned triplex. It's right in the middle of what used to be a famous red light district." From what our landlord told us, the building was a brothel, which doesn't surprise me because our city was quite known for that. The last one didn't close until the 80's. At some point, someone bought this building and converted it into three apartments. It has two floors- the whole top floor is ours and the bottom floor has two small apartments.
I don't know any actual stories about people who have lived here or their experiences. I know that it wasn't vacant anytime recently before we moved in. Right before we moved in there was a family with a few young children. Before that it was some other college students.
As for the paranormal, I am unsure. Right after we moved in a few strange things happened that freaked me out. That was last June, and nothing has happened since then. I was convinced at the time that we had a ghost, but since nothing else happened I have quit worrying about it.
The first time, I was in the bathroom, and the bathroom door handle turned like someone was trying to come in. I said "Just a minute" because I thought it was Jon. About ten seconds later, I opened the door and no one was there. Jon was in bed, and couldn't have even gotten to bed that quick and said that he wasn't trying to come to the bathroom.
The second weird thing that happened- A few weeks later maybe. I was at home by myself, watching tv on the couch. It was a weekend night and Jon was out with his buddies. I started falling asleep, so I decided to go to bed. I checked the doors to make sure they were locked, then went to bed. My dog Zeus was with me, and a little while later he started barking. There was some people across the street having a small party so I thought he was barking at them. I told him to be quiet. He ran around the house and continued to bark like crazy so I finally got up. When I went to the kitchen, the door was wide open, which leads to our back porch. The screen door on the back porch leading to outside was also wide open. I freaked out and called Jon, convinced that we had an intruder. I stayed on the phone with him while he drove home- he was just a few blocks away. In the meantime, I was holding a big kitchen knife and I left the doors just as I had found them. He searched the house and found no one, and nothing missing. He said I probably didn't close the doors all the way and that the wind may have opened them. Ok, that could have happened with one, but definitely not both doors. I told some people at work and they were convinced that we have a ghost. We joked about how it could be some dead prostitute. My boss told me that if I ever see a ghost to talk to it and ask for peace. Unless it is red she said- then we should move out immediately.
Like I said, since nothing else has happened in months I have pretty much stopped thinking about it and trying not to worry about it. I get freaked out easily. The fact that you just brought this up out of nowhere just from seeing pictures is freaking me out though. What do you see that you find strange? I looked at the pictures and didn't see anything odd, except some dots, which I thought were just dust or reflections.
Tell me, tell me!!

My home is definitely a reflection of me and my taste. In college when friends were spending money on beer and going out, I was saving money to decorate my apartments. Needless to say, for 28 I have a pretty complete house. Still a few rooms and pieces I need, but all in time. I am not big on dropping lots of money from stuff so vintage stores in Austin and around the beach have been where most of my furniture has come from. The house has a pretty rustic-chic look. None of the shabby chic pink flowers, but lots of the older funky furniture. The nice thing about decorating that way is all your pieces are so unique. It may take more time, but I love that no one else could re-create my home.
We are finally out of debt (mainly from wedding) and doing a bit of re-decorating right now. Got new kitchen light fixtures and hardware. Removed a icky recessed light fixture. And am finally adding some curtains to the living room. Took the vertical blinds down the day I bought it and just hadn't have the funds to replace yet.
The house has really high ceilings and lots of windows so we painted the living room and brownish-green and the kitchen a deep red to help warm up the house. I think it is quite cozy and even though I would love to leave the city I am in, I will miss my home dearly!:bunny:

I don't see anything odd either. You have a lot of glass and chrome in there, so it probably is the flash bouncing off stuff in the room. I don't see any smoke at all :purplex:
Dust can show up too .... LOL time to clean? *just teasing* (I am the one to talk)
