View Full Version : Stained/faded votive holders... how to whiten them up?
Hi ya'll! I got these heart votive holders, and some of them are beautiful clear glass, and some of them are like stained or something.. as you can see in this pic, one of them is like a yellowish. I was thinking about soaking them in a sinkful of bleach water... any other ideas?

I think acetone and alcohol is recommended for yellowed headlight glass....maybe that would work?
Hmmmm I have all but the acetone. I'll give the alcohol and bleach a shot and see what happens! :D

Just don't go mixing all those chemicals together or you could end up woozy!
Have you tried putting them through the dishwasher? That might take care of it without the use of all the other chemicals. Maybe get those powerball tablets for your detergent?

 I'm afraid to put them in the dishwasher... cuz they're cheap and it might get too hot. I guess I can experiment with just one and see how it works out!

They are glass right?? They should be okay in the dishwasher if they are glass. I used to caretake an apartment building in another life and I always washed all the light fixtures in the dishwasher. Even the thin candelabra covers.
Good point.. they have bubbles in them though, I'm not sure if that'll make a difference.

Well im curious now!!
Alright, so I took it out this morning, and it's still a bit yellow. I'm thinking it might be in the glass, but I haven't tried the bleach or alcohol yet. Last night was a bit crazy - I was focused more on the wine glasses and got some work done on them instead :D I'll letchya'll know how the bleach/alcohol works out :D

haha...ok we will let you slide this time :) I hope that you find something that works...are you filling them up with anything?? Cause maybe they wont look so yellow if there is something in them.
Thanks for the leeway :D :D :D
I am thinking about putting water in them and floating miniature white roses in them.... with the blue marbles in the bottom. Just a thought.. it depends cuz if I go with the milk tins for centerpieces, that's going to throw everything else off.
