Okay, I need to know how to do this without hurting anyone's feelings.
I have a bunch of families flying or driving in to my wedding from other states. Most have children under 16, most of whom are coming with them. I don't want children under 16 at the reception, but since those families are coming from so far away, I'm allowing their kids to come. How do I explain this to families who live in the area and have younger children?

Good luck with that one. Are you able to set up a room at the hotel/reception hall for kids under 16 and hire babysitters for them? That way, they wouldn't be at the reception?

Unless you are providing childcare away from the reception to the families coming in from out of town, there is no way to do this gracefully.

Good luck -

Unfortunately, all or nothing is really the only way to do it without hurting feelings. We have many relatives coming in from other states that have children under the age that we've set as our limit. But we've made it clear that no children under the age of X are invited. It's hard to pick and choose what kids can come, because feelings will get hurt no matter how you try to work it.

*sigh* Now I'm more confused than ever.:bbconfused:
Thanks for your input. I may lower the age limit to 13. I'm pretty sure all the out-of-state kids are at least 13.

You could always put on your wedding website or something, "With the exception of those traveling from out of town/state..." and then however you want to word that you only want those over 16.

Hmm...This seems like a good idea. I'll see what my mom thinks of this. Thanks!
