need to learn to shut their freaking mouths.

As many of you know, we got engaged two weeks ago today. We'd been planning to visit my grandmother this weekend and I deliberately didn't tell her over the phone so we could surprise her in person, see how long it took her to notice the ring and stuff. Told the rest of the family and asked them specifically not to tell Grandma. So we finally got to her house yesterday and I was hardly there 5 minutes before she noticed the ring, and she was super happy, but didn't seem all that surprised. Then she told me that she had kind of wondered but wouldn't ask me because she didn't want to put me on the spot, but she told herself she was going to check my left hand when I got there. Then a few hours later she kind of mentioned really quickly that this family down the street from her had already told her I was engaged because their daughter is on my myspace friends list. We also overheard Grandma telling someone this morning that she had already known before yesterday, so that confirmed it. I am SO ticked off. This girl and I haven't actually talked in a decade and she never has anything to do with my grandma and I don't know WHY she felt the need to run her mouth! I feel so stupid too because it didn't even cross my mind to ask her not to say anything because, like I said, we don't really talk, and she never mentioned anything to me so I figured she probably didn't even notice. GRR. Why on earth would you say "So, I hear your granddaughter got engaged!" to someone without them bringing it up first?! Maybe that's just the way things are done where I'm from or something, I don't know, but where I live it doesn't matter what you know--you don't tell people what business of theirs you know unless they bring it up with you. Blah, anyway I didn't mean to make this so lengthy but I'm just super annoyed.

That is the norm where I'm from. Somebody finds out something on Monday and by the time Friday come around literally everybody in town knows. That's why I get the heck outta that place! But yes, it is annoying to feel like everybody is in your business all of the time. :snide: Wedding news is exciting happy news though so atleast she wasn't talking bad about you!

I made sure I told my immediate family and grandmothers the big news before putting it up on Myspace and Facebook. I think people figure the news is fair game to be talked about if you've posted it publicly on the net. The girl probably just figured you'd already told your grandma. Sorry that happened!

I love your guys' attitudes. You're right, it IS exciting... I just don't see why someone who doesn't even care about me would care about my exciting news. But really, I should have thought before I posted it on there. Oh well, it is what it is. I'm over it :)
