After watching "Dancing with the Stars" one too many times, I got it in my head that Ryan and I should take dance lessons. I thought it would be great if we kept it a secret from everyone and just suprised them with this really great routine for our first dance. We went to Arthur Murray school of dance for a free lesson, and it was sooo much fun. Until they sat us down and discussed payment. It would be $1000 from now until the wedding (7 weeks). That was ridiculous!
So, I'm still hunting for dance classes, but it looks like I'll have to give up my dreams of being Fred Astair and Ginger Rogers on our wedding night!:bbcry:

We had private dance classes. The first night was for 1 hour and she listened to our song and made a routine for it which she took each of us through it and then FH and I tried it together. We practiced at home too and I made up an ending for it. The next lesson was just for 1/2 hour and she was very impressed that we gave the routine a nice finish, and remembered all the steps. She doesn't think we will need any more lessons if we are able to keep practising at home.
Its a very basic dance. (Actually kinda on the boring side, which is why I gave it an ending.) But it will be easy to remember on the big night when everyone is stearing at us.
I'm a bit worried now after my dress fitting on how I'm going to dance in my dress without someone standing on it. The train is going to be able to be attached up onto the back of the dress, but because its sooo heavy the threads are not granted to last the night, so it won't be attached up until our song and hopefully it will last for that.
Other than that I will either have to put my hand through the loop inside the train or just drape the train over my arm which could get heavy and annoying.
I can see I will have lots of fun with it. No train would be a lot easier! But at least we will know how to dance.

PS sorry for rambling on.

We took private dance lessons from a guy who is a professional dancer, in his home. It cost us about $350 for about six weeks of lessons. It was so much fun and people were amazed by our mad dancin skills! I hope you find a cheaper and better deal for dance lessons! They are great!!

We found this one woman that charges $50/class. they are private classes. We have 7 weeks until the wedding, so it will be $350 in total.
Do you guys think this is ok?

I think that's a great price Shawna. Steve and I would like to take dancing lesson. Neither of us can dance to save our lives! I've been keeping an eye out in the paper for people advertising but not having luck. Maybe after the wedding you could take a road trip and come teach us...lol Any one up for a Onewed dance class?

I have thought about taking dance lessons. I keep meaning to call and check on it but at the end of the day I never get around to it. We have an Arthur Murrary school of dance about 10 minutes away. I have danced my entire life so I think I could handle myself but Sean isn't the greatest dancer. I have to remember to check on that tomorrow since I don't work.

I think that is a great price!! Way better then the thousand dollars!! Do you pay by lesson? Or in full? Go and give her a try, if you don't like her and think she isn't good, find someone else!! I'm so glad you found someone much cheaper!!!

Shawna!
My parents took dancing lessons this past fall with York Region continuing Ed. My dad said it cost $90 each, and there was 8 weeks of lessons!
You should see if there is anything like that happening now! :D

We aren't taking dancing lessons, but we both pretty much dance together really well. We used to dance all the time. I would like to take dancing lessons to do something really unique that we don't know, but Justin would never go for that. The only thing I am worrying about is dancing with that dress on. The few times I have danced in a dress it hasn't been a full dress. I hope I don't stumble and fall on my face.

Thats is a really good ideas Shawna, What type of dancing and you wanting to learn. I think a profesional sequence dance for your firts dance would give your wedding that something different. We hadnt thought about dancing properly for our first dance until the other week. Leighton and I both model at wedding shows and fayres and one of the wedding shows we're doing next week involves us doing the salsa and it was really fun to learn so im going to suggest to leighton us doing the salsa for our first dance.

The only problem is that we need private attention, since we only have a month and a half until our wedding!
We went to our first private class... It's in Stroud (close to BArrie.)
It was so much fun, but a lot harder than it looks on tv! I felt really awkward. WE are so used to dancing grade 8 style that we were a little clueless. I wish we signed up a lot earlier, but I'm glad we are doing it now.

We took dance lessons. It cost us $99 for three private lessons, but we got a forth one for free because the lady stood us up the first night. So we took three of them recently and then we're going to hit group lessons until just before the wedding, when we're going to take our forth as a brush up.

I didn't really like our teacher though, so I would get to know your teacher before you dish out a ton of money.

We're thinking about it. I don't know if we can really do it, though, because we are both not so good at Dancing. Well, I guess that's why there are lessons, right?
