I finally met my cowboy. Josh and I have been together for a year and a half, and have lived together for the past six months. We are set to be married on November 11th, this year.
Alittle about ourselves. We live in Arizona. Together we have four kids, Josh has three from a previous marrige, and I have one. I call our house the zoo. heehee. We met at a soccer game where his oldest daughter and my niece were on the same team. We have pretty much been inseperable since that day. He is a wonderful person, and has been a gift from God to my son and myself.
Last Saturday was my 29+1 (not ready to be the next number yet), birthday, and he took me away for the weekend. Saturday afternoon, we had a couples massage (they put two beds in the same room, heads near eachother) and it was wonderful. I was so relaxed after that I think I drooled. That night, he took me to the Compass Room. It's an elegant restaurant at the top of the Hyatt in downtown Phx. The restaurant spins (55 min all the way around) in a circle to give you a beaultiful view of the entire valley. He proposed as our table was coming around so we could see the sunset. It was the most beautiful thing I have ever experienced. I was in such shock that all I could do was cry. He had to ask me if that was a yes, and I had to nod. Words didn't exist, which is funny because I am NEVER accused of being speachless.
We are plannin on having an antique-y style western wedding, w about 100 guest at most. The only things that have been confimed are that our children will be in the wedding, our maid of honor, and best man. I will be wearing a necklace that belonged to my greatgranmother, and carrying my grandfather's childhood prayerbook. He passed away 16 years ago today, and since he can't be there in person, I thought he could at least be there in spirit. We are going to attach my bouquet to the book. The rest of the wedding details are still up in the air.
We will see how the rest of the planning comes together. I am a bit nervous about the cost, and making sure that eveything goes right, but I guess that is all part of the process.

Awww that sounds lovely, i did the same and cried when Jamie proposed to me after 5 mins he asked was that a yes or no - bless him - all i could do was nod as well! xxx

This weekend I went w a friend of mine to see the church that we are plannin to get married at. It is beautiful. It's a catholic church about 15 minutes from own house. There is a large courtyard that separates the church from it's reception hall that is lined w red brick. There are brick archways that line the entire courtyard, and there is a huge fountain in the middle. IT'S PERFECT!!!!!!!! This is the website for the church, hope it works!! There aren't any pics of the fountain, but I still think it's pretty.

It really is exciting. We booked it two days ago, and it didn't hit me until yesterday morning.
The church it pretty too. It's a large Cath. church, my FH is Catholic. IT has a very old fashioned look about it, and it absolutley beautiful inside. Bright, airy, and has an enourmous vaulted ceiling. IT's giong to cost somwhere around $500 for the reception hall for 5 hours. Not too shabby for the area.

I went to my first bridal show yesterday with my mother, my maid of honor, a bride's maid, and her mother (as the bride's maid is also getting married in the fall). While it was small, and cold, it was very interesting. We didn't stay for any realy festivities, but signed up for more free prizes than I can count. To be honest thought, I was a bit dissappointed. I was expecting more.
We ended up heading to a bridal outlet store in one of the malls. My mom and MOH made a pitstop at an awsone mexican rest that I have been going to for the past 15 years. GOOD FOOD!!!! But to be on the safe side, I at salad and drank water so I wouldn't be too 'bloated' to try on dresses.
I looked around and two dresses, whil my mom and MOH both found one for me to try on as well. I tried on mine first. It was beautiful. I felt like a princess in it. But then I tried on the one mom picked out, just to make her happy. I really didn't like the way it looked on the maniquin, but I thought I would at least try. It wasn't until I saw mom's face and tears that I realized it was the dress for me.
http://www.groupusa.com/graphics/products/detail/5174W.jpg
It's perfect. I have never seen it before. This obviously isn't me (looks better on me! heehee) but as soon at the pics are emailed to me, I will be posting them.
I tried on one more, the second one I picked out just to see if this one was the right one. The third dress couldn't compare.
So, I bought the dress, and it's hiding from my FH at my MOH's apartment. It has just changed my entire color scheme for my wedding, but it's well worth it. Now I am thinking of either doing champagne colored roses, while (small) lillies, or a combo of both.

I met my future mother in law this weekend, and it was awsome. She is such a wonderful person. I can see where Josh got alot of his personality from. We chit chatted so much, and to tell the truth, we have alot in common.
I didn't want her to go home. We both teared up a bit when she left for the airport yesterday morning.
I can't wait to see her again in July when we go for the family reunion.

And then, soon after that, it is your wedding! Will you see her from July until the wedding?

She will be coming out for about a week before to a week after the wedding, to help finalize things, and then help w the kids while we are gone. We are hoping to go to Mexico for a week or so.

I think we will be going to Cabo, but I am not sure. It will just be nice to get away for a while.
We got our caterer yesterday. I am so excited now. Ever since yesterday afternoon, I have been anxious. I am so excited to be marrying my dream man. He is everything that I have ever wanted, and never thought I was good enough to have. I guess someone upstairs thinks otherwise.

It is funny. My grandfather passed away 16 years ago. I was very close to him all my life. When I met Josh, I started having dreams about my grandfather, and my son started talking about him. My son is only six now, and has never met him. I started feeling a closeness with my grandfather, as though he has been right next to me. I haven't felt that since his passing. I do believe that he picked Josh out for me. Josh is very much like my grandfather was.

Things are starting to come together. We have our priest from our church resereved. There was some worry about that, and the church as the woman who did the reserving apparently booked it before she was supposed to, but it ha all worked out.
I have spoken to a photographer, and she is sending me paperwork to book her.
Today, I heard back from the cater and she sent me the proposal, and will be sending the contract later today.
We will be having:
Pulled BBQ beef
BBQ Chicken
Mixed Veggies
Baked Beans
Garlic Mashed Potatoes
Garden Salad
Bread Basket
Now I am hungry!!:hungry:

We took our "engagement" pics this weekend. We took about 50 shots, and chose one where Josh was on one knee holding my hand. The caption says "we're engeged" on it. Josh picked that pose, so I went with it. IT's so cute. I will have to see if there is a way to post it!! I LOVE IT!!!

Here is the engagement/save the date picture that we are sending to family and friends. I tried to cut and paste it, but it doesn't seem to work that way for me.
I really love the picture. The irony is, he never got on one knee when he proposed, he said he wouldn't have been able to get back up. So, when we took the picture, it was his idea to get on one knee.

Well, it looks like things are changing for the wedding. J and I have discussed it, and we are not going to go with the caterer. I just can't afford it. To hire them would mean not doing a thing this summer with the kids. That isn't fair. So, we are not doing to the cowboy dinner. We will be doing deli style sandwhiches, veggies/fruit platters, chips/dips, salads, and I am thinking a choc. fountain. LOVE THOSE!!!
That means that there will more decorating that we will have to do ourselves, but we had gotten alot of offers for help on that.

Does it?? That makes me feel better. I wasn't happy about having to make it less formal, but, I am ok now!!
I think we have also gotten away from the boots and wranglers. I really really liked the idea, but the decorating has leaned away from it a bit as well, so I think they are going to wear a normal tux. I told J he could change into his boots later, but he said he may find a western tux that he can wear boots w instead.

Thats what happened with our wedding too! We wanted to do black wranglers with boots and a suit coat but then once I picked out my dress it was far too formal to do it that way! I'm sad but it didn't ruin our day, infact I like the way things turned out! Good luck to you and I hope you get everything you want!! :)

My dad is wearing a tux and hopefully will wear is black cowboy boots. He wears them with a suit occassionally and it looks fine. My dad in his boots is so natural to me. My mom told me he might not wear them which has really kinda disapointed me. I think if Josh found a nice tux with a cowboy tie and a black stetson and boots it would look awsome!

He can definatley find a tux that he could wear boots with. It does not even have to be technically western style. I worked in a store that did tuxedos and all they have to do is order the pants a little longer if he wants to wear boots. Justin is wearing boots at our wedding, but he is not having a western tux. He also wants to wear his hat, but I will not let him until after the ceremony!

J and I went this weekend to find a tux for him. We went to Saba's, a western store in the valley, and he tried on a tux shirt, jacket, and wranglers (hubba hubba) and his boots. He looked awsome. Then he asked if I wanted him to try on the slacks. I thought, hey, why not!?! Well, I was sold on wranglers until I saw him in the slacks. He looked amazing. He is so handsome, and I can't wait to see him on the big day!!!
On a sadder note, I had to 'fire' my MOH. I have been having probs w her not being 'available' since she met her boyfiend, now fiance, and as she stated, made promises that she can't keep because her life is busy. That and she can't afford the dress (though she went to Vegas last weekend). It's not aobut the money, but she was fine w it before she was engaged. I talked to her last night and told her that I still want her in the wedding, but that my sister is going to be MOH since she has more free time and will be able to help me where I need it more. Her response, 'have a good life'. We have been friends for 16 years.

I think this is my new BM dress. I saw them this weekend, and LOVE them. THey are about $50 cheaper, and much nicer than the ones I previously picked out. The one that my girls will be weaing has spaghetti straps, and the sweartheart isn't as drastic. They will be a deep sage, which looks very pretty w the champagne and black.

Ok, so we went Friday to try on that red/pink dress. That was a flop!! First off, the lady at the store wouldn't let me bring my dress in to put the two together. They only let you if you are getting your alterations done there.
Secondly, the dress looked rediculous on. The top looked like a bikini top, the shape was all wrong, and the back didn't bustle the was it's supposed to.
So, we went to the store where one of my BM is getter her wedding dress, and found the one that will match perfectly, is in perfect price range, and is absolutely it!!!!
Here it is.

We are going to take the bow off (leaving the ribbon around the body) and place a sparkly broach in it's place. We did that at the shop, and it looked awsome. The color will be a darker sage.
That's it, the final dress. No changing that one now.

I am ready to through in the towell. I have tried to make my sister happy, but it just won't happen. I changed the BM dress to the latest one because the felt the other one (black one) was too revealing. I emailed her pics of the green one, and let her know that the dress is a bit different from the one the model has on. It comes up higher on the top, isn't as tight thrugh the waist or the hip area. It actually flows out from just about the waistline, flows to the ground. Anyway, she said that the didn't like it becuase of the way it fits the model, obviously, not listening to a word I said. I told her that I spoke with the woman at the dress shop, and explained that there are three different body types. She asked what they were, and I explained that aside from the Bm that was with me, there is also one that that is tall like me, but a bit broader, and then one that is alittle bogger around. She got upset with me and told me that I am calling her fat, and telling other people she is fat. I can't take it anymore. I quit!!!!

Does that include space for the wedding a reception? Does it include things like tables and chairs? Set up and tear down of the spaces? Use of the sound equipment? Somone at the church to help you get things in order? anitorial services? Insurance? Take a deep breath and find those things out. If it includes most of those than it really isn't that much money.

First call and explain it to someone above the church lady's head. It isn't fault that she can't express herself clearly. See what they can do. If they can't do anything than start negotiating. What can they toss in to lessen the blow of having to pay them $750. Certainly their janitor can come and set up your tables and tear everythng down, or their sound system can be used free of chrage. Trust me, if you talk someone will listen.
As much as I hate to say it, let this be a lesson to you. ALWAYS get a contract. Read it carefully through two or three times. Don't be afraid to call and request that changes be made to the contract to fit what you want either. If they want your business and your money as long as the changes are reasonable they will make them. If not, find someone who fits you better. I made my church sign a contract that I drew up. They didn't like it one bit but if they wanted my $500 they were going to sign it or I owuld find someplace that would. God, I trust. His creations are another story.

If you haven't signed he contract yet than it doesn't mean anything, You can still call and ask to negotiate terms in it. If they want to be nice they can work with you. If they want to be :censored: they have that right too. If you sent the deposit BEFORE you got the contract though they should send that deposit back should you wish to back out of the venue. But if you got the contract before you sent the deposit, you forefit it in most states.
If you have signed the contract and they have a copy with your signature, your screwed. You have to abide by the terms set. But you are smart lady and already know that. But, if you have signed it and not sent it, take it to the paper shredder and request a new copy to be sent and negotiate with that clean copy.

Thanks for all of the advice girls, it helped alot. Now, alittle clarification. We in fact didn't sign a contract. I thought that J had signed it, but he didn't. THe money we put down is refundable, so we should be getting that back. I told J about the fees, and said there is no way he is paying nearly $1000 to a church to get married.

We are members of the 'sister' church. They are in the process of raising $$ to build our official church and so they send all weddings to the other one. They are supposed to be giving us a discounted rate, but I am now wondering if they are even doing that. It's just become to much.

When I was looking for a church to marry us here in Pittsburgh I couldn't even get anyone to talk to me because we weren't memebers. I literally called every church in every decent neighborhood in the phone book and NONE of them would permit us to have our wedding there even if we agreed to couseling and everything else. I found a couple nondemonations places that would allow us to have our wedding there if we brought in our own clergy but we could have the church for a max of two hours and each of them were over $1000. It was the most unChristian I have ever been treated was by these churches. I had half a notion to start calling mosques and synagouges!

I'm sorry ladies but I must say this.....
This to me is why CHURCHES are hogwash!!! Do you need to really be in a church for God to be present at your wedding? Hell no!! God is present in everything around us and in every aspect in our lives! This is why I call all churches cults! If a priest refuses to marry you because you wanted to get married outside, then he is very wrong in his understanding of God!! God has created all that we see and do and for a priest/minister/whatever to refuse to marry you outside because it is not in a house of God is a ridiculous crock to me! The whole world is God's house!!! I renounced the bible, I renounced organized religion but that does not mean that I do not believe in GOD!!! I also believe that any church asking for money so that you may be married there is going against what God has tried to teach us all these years!!!! It's just another money hungry organization! However, this is JMO!! '
Heather, sorry to use your journal for my vent, but your situation really bothers me! I say screw them and have an outdoor wedding or something of the like. It's about you and you FH, and God will be in attendance NO MATTER where you are!!! :)

Well, I do feel it's wrong to charge people for marriage, but I don't feel the same way about religion or the bible. But that is the good thing about being an American. We have a right to our own faith, veiws, and opinions. And God gave us that right as well!!!!!!!!

Well, I do feel it's wrong to charge people for marriage, but I don't feel the same way about religion or the bible. But that is the good thing about being an American. We have a right to our own faith, veiws, and opinions. And God gave us that right as well!!!!!!!!
I do feel it's wrong, like you Heather, to charge so much for a wedding. I am with you on not agreeing with Shawna's opinion on religon or the Bible. I think that some churches may be hypocritical. However, my church is not a cult. We are not high and mighty and hollier than thou. In fact the sermon last Sunday had to do with not being hollier than thou.
I do not believe you have to be a member of a church or go to church to be a Christian. Some of us choose to go to church to hear the word of God and for fellowship. It is unfortunate that Shawna had a bad experience with churches, but she should realize that not all churches are cults and full of hypocritical people. WE ARE NOT A CULT.
Sorry to use your journal Heather to state my opinion.

This is another one of those times that we all have a right to our opinion. I am a Christian; and I love God, Jesus, and the Bible. But I don't go to church. I don't think there is anything wrong with the church, I just wasn't raised to go every week so I don't feel comfortable going. I would probably love it if I would just go. Maybe I could join your church, Heather!!

I agree w you Kacie. I have never felt that our church was a cult. In my opinion, thre are some that are not correct because theydon't follow the Bible, and that those who belong to them are not heading in the right direction. But it isn't my place to tell them that, and I don't believe in 'holier than though'. I have been to some chruches w that attitude, and never returned. My church does not have that attitude, and is in fact vry warm, and welcoming.

Sorry to hijack your journal, but I have to say I sorta agree with everybody on this subject. I can see where Shawna Is coming from as well as Heather, Kacie, and Karen. I attended a small church before I moved here, and I loved it. They were very open and friendly and I felt right at home. I have not founf a church since I moved, because well around here they do almost feel like a cult. Not all but most! There is one that has strayed so far from the word of God, that this minister decided that unmarried woman didnt have a say in the church so he ASSIGNED men to speak for them. I am not lying!!!!! This was the church that my boss attended. The others want to look down on you for this or that but half the congregation in screwing the other halves wives. Only slight exaggeration. I have visited so many different churches here and have NOT felt comfortable an any of them. 9 times out of 10 on SUnday morning I have been attending church in my living room. The sermons on TV have been better than anything I might get inside an actual church.

I must add one more thing to this and then I will let sleeping dogs lie. I must take back my opinion that ALL churches are cults. There are a large majority that are, there are some that are for the people to worship which is good. I believe that it is the smaller churches who understand what God was trying to teach us better. the larger ones just want to get larger and are money hungry. I apologize if I've offended anyone with my opinion, and I apologize for saying what I said and how I said it. I believe everyone has the right to believe what they want and if they choose to worship at home or at church it is their call. But I still stand by what I said, when I said God is all around us, in everything we see before us. Who are we to say who is right and who is wrong. I may be right, I may be wrong. Again I apologize for stepping on anyones toes.
Heather, I hope you can have your wedding where ever YOU want and how YOU want!! Don't let others dictate to you. Good luck, your happiness is most important in the long run!! :)

I think that is why we are going to look into the chapel on base. It's rediculous!!!!!!!!
That is a good idea. Since it is for the guys on the base to use it for a wedding will probably be way less. But remember in all the 9-11 business to check to make sure that your guests will be able to access your wedding. A lot of bases won't let you on without military ID. Another bonus is that since it is non denominational for everyone to use they will probably have fewer restrictions on things like music and decorations and the such. Good luck and let us know how it goes.

You usually can't buy at the comm. if you don't have the ID. It used to be that you couldn't gt into it, but I don't know about now. I know that for the wedding, if we leave a list at the gate, they let the guests in, and if not, 75% of our guests will be military, so we can have them get the rest of the guests on base.
There is a nondenom church, but also a cath church on base. So that should work out too.

I can't believe that they wanted to charge $1000. When I called the church to check on the dates for Joe and I, because I wasn't a member, if I wanted to use the officiant, church and the reception hall (including kitchen, dishware and utensils), the organist, the bridal planner and miscellanous decorations available, it was going to cost us about $535.00. Since then, I've joined the church and I think we'll only have to pay the bridal lady, the organist and the janitor small amounts of money for their time.
I also wanted to say that my church does allow non-members to use the church. They believe that it should be open to the community.

Ok, so there has been so much changing, that I can't keep it all straight.
We have decided to move the date, ceremony location and reception location due to the original church wanting to charge us too much. We had to move the date because of avail. of the other facilities.
First, we moved (or thought we did) to the chapel and E-Club on base the next day. Well, they dont do weddings on Sunday.
Then we thought it was moved to the following weekend, but the deacon on base wasn't very nice. When J met w him, he said that we needed to wait an additional six months to get married because in his opinion, couples need more prep than the diocese requires. He also told J that one of us needed to move out of the house, and actually suggested that I move back home w my parents. Ok, I am 30, not 20. He also said that we needed to cancel our membership w the church we have been going to for the last year, and become members to the one on base. J didn't like him much, and does not want to go there.
We are now, provding it is still open, having the ceremony at our local church on Saturday, Nov 11. That is one week after we originally planned for. The church is nothing fancy in the least. It is acutally more of a quad-wide trailer. They have been using it for a few years while they were collecting money for the new church to be built, and acutally just last week reached the goal, and then some. It is going to be a beaut, but unfortuatley, won't be done by our date. The groundbreaking is in two months.
Anyway, the reception has been moved to a small golf course just off base. It again isn't anything fancy, but it kindof has a old fashioned 'pub' kick to it. It has wood beams everywhere, and a high a-framed ceiling. The west side of the rooms are lined w floor to ceiling windows that will make for a pretty view of the course, w mountains in the background.
Hopefully, this will be the last of the major changes.

Wow when did God retire and appoint that deacon to His old position? Our minister suggetesd that Sean and I live seperately too.But htat idea was squashed when I asked him if he was going to pay either the mortage on our house now or the rent for the house that one of us would have to move into.
Don't worry aboutthe church not being "pretty". It iwll be perfect, as long as you put some work into it. Our church was kind of dull and palin but a few flowers and potted plants and it was perfect.

Lol I would have to agree with Lacey on the Deacon with a God complex...
Don't worry it will all work out...if I listened to some of the elders at our church Eric and I wouldn't be getting married because "biblically" I do not have the right to remarry (I left my ex after years of mental abuse) Eric's ex cheated on him and had a baby, therefore they say he has a biblical right to remarry but I should have stayed in the marriage and "worked it out"...I guess they think I was supposed to stay in the marriage and in 20 yrs someone could readjust my nice little white jacket with the "kicky" straps and buckles and feed me baby food...HA! I don't think so.

Heather I am sorry you are having all these problems. I am sure that your church will look just fine once you get all your decorations in place. From what I've heard you mention a few times about your church, it seems like a very nice place (spiritually). The feel of the church or wherever you have the wedding is more important than the looks of it. The place we are getting married is really a boring big room, but it looks great with decorations. We had wanted it at our church, but the church is way to small. I'm sure your church will be even better than the original one or the one on base.

Well, I have my flowergirl dresses. One of my BM is getting married two weeks after me, and her mother was out looking for things, when she came across them. They are cream color satin, round neck, sleeveless, have four pearl buttons down the back, and are full to the ground w a built in pettycoat. Two of the three are large for the flower girls, but I figured that since she found the dresses for only $20 each, I can afford to have them altered. She took some sage color ribbon and tied it around the waist and they look so pretty. They are perfect.

Well, we have added to our bridal party. One of our ushers is now a new GM. He is a good friend, and we decided that he should be apart of it. And, I have added Shawna, another friend of mine as well. Her mother in law is making the cakes for us (and one of my Bm for her wedding). Shawna is also helping me quite a bit, and I can't see not having her a part of the wedding party.
I had a bbq last Friday, and had a bunch of friends over. Here is a pic of one of my BM's (DeeDee) and her daughter. Dd's fiance is the new GM. We are standing in my living room. Behind us is our dining room and kitchen.

I just have to blab about wedding stress. IT BITES!!! I had cold sores on my lip about a month ago. And now, I have them again, in another spot. I dont fell stressed out all the time, but it seems like I go in spurts, fast, and have ups and down worse than when I was pregnant. i was happy go lucky this morning, and now, I feel like I have an anxiety attack coming on. I am so worried about money for the wedding, and making sure that I can find everything I need, it's driving me nuts!!!!!!

I just hope this up/down thing goes away. J is so good, he doesn't get upset, but I can see that it gets to him. I hate that.

Well, nothing new really happend w the wedding planning this weekend. I did go to Michael's to get some of the flowers (we are doing silk) that I want to use for the wedding, only to find that they don't have them in stock, not at that one anyway. But there is a Michaels near my work, so I am going to go there today.
I did buy my invites, and got a great deal on them. The set included 50 invites/envelopes, 50 response cards/env, 50 place settings (which we aren't using) 50 programs, and 50 thank you cards/env. We are going to need about another 75 programs, but I thought that the invites are cream color (which is one of the colors in the wedding) I can get some paper in sage (the other color in the wedding) and print the rest of the programs in that. We can just mix the colors up. I don't think anyone will mind.
Anyway, the total for the set was $29.00. It is normally $49.00, but was on clearence. Gotta love that.

Thanks. I was pretty stoked!!! Now I just have to play and figure out what to do about the design in the invite. We are going to use this image as the backgrond and then have the writing over it. But we aren't sure if we are going to print it all on the same sheet, or if we are going to use an overlay.http://i70.photobucket.com/albums/i104/pruetthd/942003514_34855_1.jpg

Ok, this is really really strange. I have been stressed on paying for the wedding, and totally fear that the wedding day will show up and I will not have the money to pay the caterer and the photographer, which will both be due that day. I haven't counted the days in the past few weeks because I have stresses so much. I just looked at my ticker, and it says 4 mo 1 day. I suddent got a pounding heart, and short of breath, and now I feel like I am going to have an anxiety attack. Not a big one, but still. Is that normal?

I traced the image (since it doesn't print up correctly) that will go on the front of the programs (and also background for the invites). I thought that we could put this towards the bottom of the programs, maybe the names in the bottom of the dress, and the date below it. Any suggestions??

I think this is normal. I have had a dream a couple of times that I have woken up and it is my wedding day. In my dream I didn't have a dress yet and had nobody to do my hair and make-up. I had to get married in my pjs!

I haven't gotten to that point, but I need to start doing more. I was so concerned about saving money, that I wasn't using my saved money for the wedding. Does that make sense?? So, everyweekend, I am giving myself something to do. This weekend, I think I am going to finalize what I, oops, I mean we, want to have the programs say.
