Well I don't really know why I need a wedding journal, but what the heck, here goes. I am 23 and from a little town in Texas in between Houston and Beaumont. We're about an hour from Houston and 30-45 minutes from Beaumont. I am getting married to a wonderful man on December 30 and I am graduating with an animal science degree from Sam Houston State University on December 16. I was supposed to graduate this summer, but one of my classes got cancelled so I am sticking around for a whole semester for one more class. Fun stuff.

I met Justin when I was 16. We didn't start dating until I was 20. The first time I saw Justin I was at a high school rodeo (this was in 1998). I was sitting in the stands wtih some of my friends and the team ropers came riding out and I told one of my friends that I thought the guy on the gray horse was really hot. That friend that I told that ended up dating him for a year and half. We became friends while they were dating.

After they broke up I didn't see Justin for another year or so. I saw him again in the fall 2001 when I walked into a math class and Justin was in my class. We were both dating other people and enjoying the college life, but we became friends again. I secretly had a crush on him, but it wasn't the right time for us yet. After the semester ended I didn't see him again until spring break. Our home towns are 15 miles apart and I ran into him at a gas station. I told him to give me a call and we could hang out. Of course, like a typical guy, he didn't call me. As I was driving home that night I realized how deep my feelings were for him. I went home and went to our college's webiste because you look up people's e-mail address and I sent him an e-mail telling him my feelings. Keep in mind this is in March of 2002. I didn't hear from him until that August when he finally checked his school e-mail account. I had totally forgotten about the whole thing. In fact he thought I was blowing him off, because when he called me I was in South Carolina and I didn't answer my cell phone the whole time. So after he called I didn't get back to him for another week.

I got the message when I got into the airport in Houston and called him. We went out to eat the next night and have been together ever since. We moved into together in June of 2003. I didn't like the idea of moving in together before marriage, but I was out of roommate at the time and had nowhere else to go to be able to stay in school. I also didn't think it would take that long to get engaged. He graduated from Sam Houston State University in December of 2004. He proposed to me on December 23, 2005.

The proposal was really romantic. We were at my grandmother's for Christmas and by the lake they have a Christmas light display that you can walk through. We went there and walked through the lights and then went across the lake to see the lights from the other side. He got down on one knee and asked me to marry him right there by the lake. It was a really beautiful night that I will never forget.

So far we have booked our site, I've gotten my dress, we've taken engagement photos, we've started buying centerpieces, and I've picked my attendants. We've also bought my wedding ring, but not Justin's yet. Justin hasn't picked his attendants yet. I am having five attendants and two flower girls. We are also having two ring bearers. We've starting buying some decorations. Our theme is going to be Winter Wonderland.

Journal looks good Kacie.....Good Work!
It may not seem very useful right now, but wait until you really get into the middle of your planning. If you are still coming here, its a perfect spot to keep all of your ideas and plans. You can keep a running to-do list, as well as help on any areas you might run into problems with!
I love mine, it has helped me keep things straight!

Here is my dress. I think it looks better in person though.
http://www.davidsbridal.com/images/fashions/thumb/04F_V8377.jpg (http://www.davidsbridal.com/bridal_gowns_detail.jsp?stid=1624&prodgroup=10)
I've also got my veil and it is so pretty. I am going to wear a very traditional veil it will be going over my face. It has Swaroski crystals on it. (I don't know if I spelled that right or not). It really sparkles. I think it will be wonderful for the whole Winter theme and for an evening event. I wonder if the site where we are having it at can dim the lights for the ceremony or it if is only a simple on or off switch. We'll see. Dim lights for that with a lot of candles would be pretty.

http://www.davidsbridal.com/images/fashions/thumb/s06_S1038.jpg (http://www.davidsbridal.com/flowergirl_detail.jsp?stid=1617&prodgroup=11) The flower girls will have a dress similiar to this, but instead of it being sleevless it will have sleeves because of the winter factor. I did buy bows just like that to go on their dresses, but they are red to match my colors which are red and silver.

Instead of the flower girls throwing flowers they will be throwing silk snow flake petals.

The snow flakes is a cute idea. In my wedding the flower girl will not be carrying a basket. Instead she will be carrying a small tin pail full of silk petals. Just another touch of my western theme.

Oh, and I've seen some of the bouquets with crystals in them! I was thinking just that! Yes I'd love some more ideas. I've got to get out of the door right now and get on the road, but I will look at that link you pasted later. Any ideas are much appreciated!

We must have some of the same tastes because I see you have pictures of callalillies. I love callalillies. The only problem is my bridesmaid dresses are red and I don't want them to clash. But I was thinking anyway of having them carry a white flower of some sort and me with a red one. Do you think it would work if they carried white callalilles and I carried a bouquet with another type of flower or would that look bad?

Here are my attendants and a little about them

Tracy-Matron of Honor. Tracy and I did not like each other in Junior High and then in High School we became really close friends! Funny right. We both used to rodeo and we hauled together for a few years. Tracy is married to one of my fh's friends. She is a loan officer at a bank.

Karlie-Karlie goes to school with me and is an animal science major at Sam Houston State University. She is also a senior, like me, and is trying to graduate in December. We've taken animal nutrition, plant science, horse science, anatomy and physiology, advanced horse science, and forage crop and pasture production together. Karlie works as a pharmacy tech at a hospital and she just took her GRE today and plans to get her master's in Animal Reproduction.

Molly-I've only known Molly for under a year now, but she is the best person! I love her. I met Molly this summer when I was working for a vet. She came home for the summer and was working there as well. We bonded during that time. She goes to school at Texas A&M at Galveston and is a marine biology major.

Paula-Paula used to date my fh's best friend. She runs around with the same crowd I do. I've known her, but we got close when she dated Trae. Trae lives with us so she was always around. Paula is graduating from Stepen F. Austin University in Nacogoches, TX in August I believe. She is a business major.

Tiffany-I have known Tiffany since forever. We went to the same day care and were roommates one semester at college. She left to get married and transfered to the University of Houston. It is closer to where she lives. Tiffany is going to graduate in August with a teaching degree. She is getting certified to teach special education. Tiffany has a 3 year old daughter and is pregnant now. She is due in August, so that is perfect timing for the wedding!

Addie and Jessica are my flower girls. They are 7 years old. They are my second cousins. (Both of their mother's are my cousins.) They are so cute. Addie has bouncing curly blonde hair and Jessica is a strawberry blonde and is tall and skinney.

Here's one that would be pretty for you. It's just Callas and roses:
http://images.theknot.com/pictures/SayItWithFl_265x205.jpg

Here's one with sleek calla lilies, sweet lily of the valley, soft lisianthus, and lush peonies:
http://a1000.g.akamaitech.net/f/1000/806/12h//images.theknot.com/Galleries/Bouquets/BQG039m.jpg

You could actually both carry the same flowers in different colors. That's what I'm doing. I'm wearing Ivory and carrying a Lavender bouquet, and my BM's are wearing lavender and carrying ivory buds.

Here are a couple of centerpieces that I think you might like:
http://a1000.g.akamaitech.net/f/1000/806/12h//images.theknot.com/Galleries/Centerpieces/TDG051m.jpg
This is two arrangements. Red and white roses, peonies, anemones, and calla lilies.

http://a1000.g.akamaitech.net/f/1000/806/12h//images.theknot.com/Galleries/Centerpieces/TDG052m.jpg
These are Peonies, and you won't need so many. Les expensive that way. The candles are being held up with Avacados. Pretty neat!

I think you can definatly carrie a coloured boquet and have your BM's carry a white boquet. I want pink flowers. I love pink and this is one of the few ways i will be able to incorporate it into the wedding. My BM's have white boquets because i felt like any more colour would be too crazy for them. They have cloud blue tops and black skirts.
Careful with peonies. Check out if they can be grown locally all year round. Otherwise they will have to be brought in from Holland and are super expensive.
Things are looking good! Your location pic's are very pretty!

I really want a pretty aisle runner. The floors in my building are concrete so they really need to be dressed up. I've discussed this on some posts before. I don't remember how, but someone gave me a link to some absolutely beautiful aisle runners. However, they are pricey. And I remember Carrie gave me some ideas about making my own. There is one that I saw that I feel in love with on the websites. I am not working right now, but I am gettting a job in August after summer school. (I think I mentioned that I am in school and I am graduating in December and that I am almost finished, but am taking a heavy load this semester.) So my parents are paying for my wedding, but I thoaght that maybe I could buy this. I mean I don't mind buying it at all. The one I fell in love with was a custom aisle runner. I probably would want it in red and it had a big snow flake in the middle of it. Then one I saw also initials over it. Just for the solid colored aisle runners at 25Ft they start at $135. I have no idea what a custom one would cost. You have to call to get the price.

Kacie_bride
03-10-2006, 11:47 PM
I also saw this on a website and I don't know how hazardous this may be, but maybe I could try it.

http://www2.balloons-galore.net/prod_images_large/snowflakeluminaries1.jpg (http://www2.balloons-galore.net/pd_snowflake_diecut.cfm#) I could get luminaries and put them along the aisle. The only problem is I would worry about people knocking them over. But maybe I could work something out with the ushers or something. Any ideas anyone or should I just scratch this idea?

CarlosHoney
03-11-2006, 01:04 AM
Use glowsticks. They come in red, if you wanna get white bags. You can buy them at army/navy stores, I used to work there. You could probably make your own aisle runner out of some canvas and paint (also things you can get at the army navy store). Probably make a stencil of a snowflake, and use some spraypaint (maybe even some glittery paint).

Sounds really pretty!! You might use some ziplock baggies taped shut, full of sand, to weigh them down so that they don't just fall over.. but if you want candles, you could try to hang them or something.

Today I got my photographer booked. I am getting the complete package. It covers a bridal portrait, 400 photos taken, 6 hours of coverage, traditional and photojournalistic coverage. At a bridal fair I won a bridal portrait from another photographer so I'll be getting two bridal portraits. That's fine with me! And get this, I also won engagement photos at the same bridal fair. I've already taken those though.

I don't run anymore. My horse has joint problems now and I am really busy trying to finish up school. I plan to buy a new horse after the wedding and after I get a "real job." Justin used to team rope too, and he just bought a new horse.

We are having fajitas at my reception. Of course we are also having keg beer and wine and soft drinks and tea. I never knew cakes could be so expensive, but one of Justin's 4-H parents does wedding cakes. He is not a professional baker, because his son participates in contests and your parents cannot be a professional. Besides that he has another career. Justin says that all he will charge us is for materials. Hopefully that pans out because the cakes I've looked at are like $1000. I know I want rasberry filling. That is so good. I have a picture on my other computer of a cake I like. It is just a regular stacked cake with smooth icing. It has swirls on it, but I want the swirls in red to match my colors. Then I was thinking having fresh flowers on it. I also really liked one of the ones Carrie posted and I really liked the snowflake cake topper. So many decisions. I will post a picture when I get to the other computer so you can give me your opinions.

Last night I bought a magazine with bridal hair. It may seem like a bit early to think about how I want my hair to be, but oh well. I know that I want it up. My hair is long so that will not be a problem. It will be longer by the time the wedding comes because I have no plans of cutting it. I'm also going to do some trial runs at probably two different hair stylists to see who does the best. I am thinking of trying the ballerina bun first. My veil is full and I have small tiara. I haven't made any appointments or anything yet. My hair is a big deal to me. It has to be perfect!

The way my hair is done is a big deal to me too! I can't stand the idea of having it all slicked back. I will look balled in my pictures! I think i had all my ideas picked out about 6 months before the wedding too. Only thing is now i have to find a hair dresser who is willing to do hair for 6 of us. Who woulda thought you have to book someone more then 3 months in advance.

I would like something like a display area just for wedding stuff. We will have to see where we are living after the wedding. It all depends on where I get a job at. I just have my fingers crossed that it is away from here because I really do not like it here. You know Texas is a beautiful state. There's West Texas where the Davis Mountains are. Central Texas "the hill country" where there are rolling hills. (Carrie is a central Texas girl!) There's the Panhandle where you would consider the plains. There's south Texas where you have places like Padre Island that is pretty. Then there us in South East Texas. I call it the arm pit of Texas. It is swampy and flat and humid like you wouldn't believe! We have hurricanes to deal with and sometimes tornadoes. It floods around here. Sometimes there are 10 million misquitos. The only good thing to me about it here is it is close to Louisiana where all the good food comes from!!! So I'm hoping against all hopes that I get a job somewhere else so we can move. Justin has the experience and schooling to find a job pretty much anywhere I do or at least within driving distance. I'm thinking Colorado, Oklahoma, maybe Tennessee the midwest or even just a different part of Texas. I could defiantely stand to become a hill country woman!

That is a lot of people for us, but Justin's parents are divorced so that adds more people. My mother is one of 4 children and my father is one of 5 children. Most of my cousins are older than me and are married with children, etc. The family is the biggest part of our guest list. We have had to eliminate some friends because of the family.

Thank you for what you said about the dress and stuff.

I have seen this done at several other weddings and I am going to copy it. On the same table as the sign in book or in some other area I have seen baby or toddler pictures of the bride and groom. I think that is so cute. I've got two of mine picked mine out. I'll scan it and let you guys see. Then you have to tell me what you think. I'll have to get a pic of Justin from his mother. At my cousin's wedding they also had pictures set up of both of their parents on their wedding days. I like the idea, but it would inappopriate for us being that Justin's parents are divorced. I was thinking maybe grandparents, but that gets to be to many.

This is from I Corinthians 13
If I speak in the tongues of mortals and of angels, but do not have love, I am a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal.
And if I have prophetic powers, and understand all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have all faith, so as to remove mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing.
If I give away all my possessions, and if I hand over my body so that I may boast, F65 (http://bible.crosswalk.com/OnlineStudyBible/bible.cgi?word=1+Corinthians+13%3A1-13&section=0&version=nrs&new=1&oq=I+Corinthians+13%3A1-13#F65) but do not have love, I gain nothing. Love is patient; love is kind; love is not envious or boastful or arrogant or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; it does not rejoice in wrongdoing, but rejoices in the truth. It bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. Love never ends. But as for prophecies, they will come to an end; as for tongues, they will cease; as for knowledge, it will come to an end. For we know only in part, and we prophesy only in part; but when the complete comes, the partial will come to an end. When I was a child, I spoke like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child; when I became an adult, I put an end to childish ways. For now we see in a mirror, dimly, F66 (http://bible.crosswalk.com/OnlineStudyBible/bible.cgi?word=1+Corinthians+13%3A1-13&section=0&version=nrs&new=1&oq=I+Corinthians+13%3A1-13#F66) but then we will see face to face. Now I know only in part; then I will know fully, even as I have been fully known. And now faith, hope, and love abide, these three; and the greatest of these is love.
This is from Ephesians 3

3:14 For this reason I bow my knees before the Father, F19 (http://bible.crosswalk.com/OnlineStudyBible/bible.cgi?word=Ephesians+3%3A14-19&section=0&version=nrs&new=1&oq=I+Corinthians+13#F19) 3:15 from whom every family F20 (http://bible.crosswalk.com/OnlineStudyBible/bible.cgi?word=Ephesians+3%3A14-19&section=0&version=nrs&new=1&oq=I+Corinthians+13#F20) in heaven and on earth takes its name. 3:16 I pray that, according to the riches of his glory, he may grant that you may be strengthened in your inner being with power through his Spirit, 3:17 and that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith, as you are being rooted and grounded in love. 3:18 I pray that you may have the power to comprehend, with all the saints, what is the breadth and length and height and depth, 3:19 and to know the love of Christ that surpasses knowledge, so that you may be filled with all the fullness of God.
I am thinking of asking two of my cousins to do these readings. I think they are both beautiful and I really want to focus on the fact that my wedding is a religious event to me. Yes we are having our pastor do the ceremony, but sometimes even weddings in churches aren't really what I would call religous. That is fine for some people, but I want a religous ceremony. The only reason it is not in our church is because the church is too small!

Well last weekend we went on our first day of invitation shopping. There are so many to look at. I found some I really liked, but we are going to keep looking. I don't know when we will go again. I have 3 or so picked out that are my favorites.

I am bored so I was skimming around the net for centerpiece ideas. I already have glass jars and red candles to go inside. I like this idea.

My jars aren't exactly like that and my candles are smaller. Instead of red flowers I might want to use white poinsettias or maybe red ones. I found a website where you can buy a box of 144 silk poinsettias for $48.50. That seems reasonable.

Are you thinking of doing a small pot on the table for centrepeices?! If so i think that would be fairly easy to get from a florist esp. so close to christmas.

I've seen the dust stuff. They sell it on the same site I found some of the other poinsettia stuff. I've also seen it at craft stores. For centerpieces I posted a pic earlier of what I am going to go toward. I'll post again in the next post. During Christmas time the farm and market store here sells big beautiful poinsettias and I want a few of them in places. I'm also thinking of lining the aisle runner with them. Sometime very soon we are going to the resort we are having the wedding at and taking some pics of the room and measuring stuff so we have exact demensions so we can start laying it all out on paper.

Today we just finished paying off our honeymoon!! Well, we still have to buy airline tickets. Continental is putting the tickets for sale May 5th so we are going to buy them then. There is only one flight to Jamaica on December 31st and I want to be on that flight with that airline.

We are going to Sandals Royal Carribean and Private Island in Montego Bay, Jamaica. We'll be there for 4 nights and 5 days. I can't wait! I haven't been to the Carribean in a long time and Justin has never been! I haven't been to Jamaica either. In the Carribean I've been to Puerto Rico, St. Thomas, and St. Martin.

Well today I got a couple of things accomplished. My little cousin was having her birthday party today so we stoped at Michael's Craft Store and picked up 2 hallos that the two flower girls will be wearing on their heads. This is the headpiece I like from David's Bridal. However it is way over priced. The one at Michael's was $10. It is just plain white, but we are adding the red in. It also covers more of the head than this one does. We tried it on both of the girls and they looked adorable. We also have to add the ribbon onto the back.

http://www.davidsbridal.com/images/fashions/thumb/s06_9620IVORY_APPLE-Asml.jpg (http://www.davidsbridal.com/accessory_detail.jsp?stid=2500&prodgroup=130)

I'm also thinking about having them wear white satin gloves. That would be cute. We'll see what the dresses look like after my aunt sewes them before I decide about that.

I also ordered 3 swatches for my aisle runner. The floor where I'm getting married is concrete so an aisle runner is a must! I wanted a monogramemd one with our name and date on it. However, that is very expensive. I found a website that I can buy a clothe one with the non-slip backing for $115 for a 30ft. runner. I want it to match the red so I ordered 3 different shades of red swatches. I also need to go to the room soon to measure exactly how long of an aisle runner I'm going to need. I'm guessing 25-30 ft.

I also looked at lighted arches. I'll probably buy the one at Michael's. It is $30. It already has the lights predone. Then I'll decorate it really pretty.

I also want colums linning the aisle. I'll see if I can find a picture of what I am going for. I saw it earlier. That way people will not walk on my aisle runner. They'll have to go around.

Now for his side we have one more ring bearer to go, 3 groomesmen, and 1 usher. 2 groomesmen were already selected and my brother is going to be an usher. So thus far it's.

Best Man-Trae Newkirk
Groomesmen 1- Clayton Bracey
Groomesmen2 -????
Groomesmen 3-????
Gromes 4-?????

Usher 1-Travis Thornton
Usher 2-????

Ringerbearer 1-Cole Hamilton
Ringbearer 2-Raymond Hamilton (probably, but he has yet to ask)

I like both the dishes and the bedroom set... But, if were me, I would choose the bedroom set. Spend more time there.. :bblol:

I'm going to register for them both. The dishes are very inexpensive and the bedroom set is not priced too high. It will be one of the higher priced things on our list. The only thing about the comforter set is I don't know if Justin will like it or not. He does not like my taste and I hate his taste in decor, but on most things he lets me slide and do what I want. I don't know if he'll let me pick that comforter set.

We have a lot of stuff already since we've been living together for nearly 3 years. However, we are hoping to upgrade a lot of stuff because most of our stuff was handed down or stuff we just picked up that is cheap just to have something. Our home does not totally look like a couple of college kids live there anymore, but I want it more elegant now. Justin graduated in 2004 and I'll graduate in December so then we'll both have full time jobs and what we don't get for the wedding we'll hopefully be able to afford to buy ourselves. Even though Justin does have a full time career now I don't work so he is totally supporting me right now and we're not hurting, but we can't really go out and get lavish stuff. Besides that he is funding the honeymoon by himself and all the expenses (like new clothes, probably will need more luggage, etc) without any help.

I've flown a lot, on many different airlines and I haven't ever been very pleased with Delta. I really like Continental, but on-line it kept saying they didn't have any available flights. I've been checking since January. I finally called last month to talk to a person and the guy told me they would go on sale on May 5th. So on May 5th I checked back on-line and they still said they were unavailable. I called the airline back and they told me they had no idea when they were going on-sale and there was only one flight out that day and they would go fast. A lot of good that did me. I got scared and U.S. Airways were already sold out and so was Northwest. United flights were also booked. Anyway I am kinda of nervous (I know it is stupid) to fly on American or United just because those were the airlines that were involved in 911. I know they would have gotten any airline those just happened to work better for the hijackers, but it still gives me an eerie feeling to get on a United or American flight. I haven't flown either of them since then.

You know the old saying, "if you get thrown from a horse, you need to climb right back into the saddle." The longer you go thinking that American or United Airlines is going to be hijacked, the more afraid you are going to become when you finally have to fly in one of them. Be brave and just do it! Yes well I am just going to do it because I already have purchased my tickets to fly on American so there is no going back there.

Amber.. We are staying at Sandals Royal Caribbean. The honeymoon was one of the first things we decided on. It is a good thing I am on top of it because December 31st is booking up fast on flights and everything. It is a highly traveled date I've found out.

Our flight leaves at 7 AM and then we have to go to Miami and we have a 4 hour lay over and will not get to Jamaica until 3:45. Then we will be leaving on January 4th at 5:00 PM and have to go back to Miami and we will get into Houston at 10:00 PM.

I think since our flight is leaving so early we are going to get a hotel the night of the wedding in Houston because we have at least an hour drive to get there and I would rather stay near the airport so we can sleep a little bit more!

I just love the bridesmaid dress! It's beautiful!

As for Jamaica, I went there for my spring break senior year and if you get a chance (i.e. if you leave your room) do Dunn's River Falls! It's the COOLEST experience ever! It came very highly recommended to us and I very highly recommend it to whoever I hear is going to Jamaica. Have fun on your honeymoon and I can't wait to see everything come together with your wedding. The colors, the theme, everything is going to look GREAT!

Now I am thinking about cakes. I am just browsing around to get some ideas.

http://www.maribellecakerycincinnati.com/Gallery/snowflake_roses.jpg

I like this one. It would be easy to do. It would just be a simple cake and then you can buy those snowflakes (the same style which will be hanging from the ceiling) and set them up.

http://www.maribellecakerycincinnati.com/Gallery/tablelights.jpg This would be nice with a pretty topper.

The second one might be pretty with the red roses on the top. That might be the punch of color it needs. But both are beautiful and both would go perfectly with your theme.

I'm with you, Kacie, on the raspberry filling, that would have been my choice too. I would have picked lemon cake with raspberry filling. But Amber hates lemon cake and she hates raspberries and, since it's her wedding, there will be none of that. :bbcry: But I just know your cake will be so wintery and beautiful!!

Today the invitation samples came in. I think they are going to be perfect! I just have to show them to my mom. I guess I can do that this evening when she gets off of work. I also am going to do a count of our guest list to determine how many invites we will be needing to order. I know we'll need at least 150. We are not ordering reception cards. The reception and the ceremony is in the same place. We are ordering RSVP cards though.

At just counted, mind you I only counted one, 123 families. Then I'll want one for a keep sake, my mom will want one, Justin's mom, and Justin's dad will want one. That makes 127. I think we'll order 150 invitations to have some to keep

I don't know if you got the whole package or not. But you might want to hold off on that until you do have everything like the lined envelopes, the inner and outer envelopes, the enclosures and return envelopes, ect. Those really add up. I had everything in mine: invitation, reception card, RSVP set, direction card, lined inner envelopes, outter envelopes, and a wax seal. I think it was $0.64 to mail it all.

I wish I could have the whole package, but I don't. I couldn't have that until it all came in. However, that is something I will have to deal with either way. I just don't want to get hit with extra postage because the envelope is too big and extra postage because it is heavy.

Tomorrow we are finally getting out to the venue to take pictures and to do some measurements. We need to measure the tables so we can buy table clothes. We also have to ask to see if there are any rules about throwing bird seed. I hope there's not because truthfully I don't really like the wedding bubbles. I would rather just forego the whole thing if that's the only thing we can do. We need to check on getting a ladder to hang the snowflakes from the ceiling. We also are going to measure the length of the aisle so we'll know how long of an aisle runner to buy. Then we have to count electrical outlets. This is very important because we are going to have lighted trees and other lights. We also need to find out where we want the DJ to set up. Then my mom wants a written quote on the beer and wine.

So we went to the site today. My mom and I took a lot of pictures and I'll post them up here when I get them back from her. Another exciting detail was that Justin's mom came and she signed the contract for the rehearsal dinner.

We are having the seafood buffet. The menu will be boiled shrimp, fried shrimp, stuffed crab, fried crawfish, seafood ettoufee, fried catfish, salad bar, and a choice of several different kinds of from what I hear DIVINE pies. Ohhh I can't wait. I love food!

After looking at the room more with my mom, Justin's mom, and my mom's best friend, we got some more ideas. The room has a stage that basically would be useless space. We are transfering that into a winter wonderland area. There we are having 3 white trees, laying fake snow down on the entire floor, having lighted deer, and hanging snowflakes from the ceiling. Snowflakes will also be hanging from the ceiling in the entire room. On the sign in table we are going to buy a La Te Da scented lamp that has snowflakes on it (I saw it today at this little shop in town). We are going to use the scent called snowberry. We are also going to place some of these lamps around the room to have the scent all around.

Lighted trees will be in every corner. We counted the outlits to make sure this was possible. Ice wreaths will be hanging on the double doors. There are two big windows in the room and we are going to decorate it with tooling.

The aisle will be in front of the stage. We are having a arch that will be lighted and decorated with tooling and red flowers. There will also be a pair of candleabras on both sides that have 7 candles each. I am going to get some of the younger girls in my family to light them prior to the ceremony with the candle lighters I bought from Hobby Lobby. The unity candle will also be set up in front.

We are going to get a carpet aisle runner. My mother wants to do carpet because she says it will work the best. It will be in red.

Rebecca..yes the lodge is very big. It can accomodate up to 500 people banquet style.

This place is really great. It is surrounded by beautiful lakes and trails. It has an amazing wildlike population. There are alligators and huge turtles. You can rent a horse drawn carriage to take you around. When you book a cabin they will come pick you up from the cabin to take you to breakfast at the restaurant. They do a lot of outdoor weddings there, but of course, not in December.

Well here's what we're up to now....

We are planning on ordering the invitations soon. I have them picked out. Mom is just getting the money together. I have picked the wording and all that good stuff.

Saturday some of my bridesmaids are supposed to meet me at my house at 2:00 to go to David's Bridal to get the sizes of their dresses. This is a big hastle!!!! I have not been able to get a hold of one. I already have her dress size though. She tried on her dress months ago because she is pregnant. The baby is due in August so she is really big right now. I just need her to pay for it now. I think one of the other ones has to work so she cannot come. Then I'm not sure about another one. I don't know what is up with her. The last two times I saw her it has been kinda weird. I called her yesterday to tell her what time to meet. I told them the date 2 weeks ago, but not the time. She said she would try to make it and then she asked if they would have to pay for them then. She said she would have to see if she had to pay her own tuition because her dad hasn't been able to work for 4 weeks. That is a ridiculous excuse because her parents own the shop! It is open for business wether he is there or not. I don't understand that. And besides that I told them the price of the dresses back in January. So she had 6 months to save $140. I don't think that is very hard.

Then on Sunday we are meeting with our pastor to discuss the ceremony. We are doing this so soon because in July he is moving back to California and I would rather him do the ceremony than the new pastor. His wife works for Continental so he can fly here for free. He refuses to take any money, but I think we are going to pay for his hotel room.

Just wanted to say good luck with teh BM situation. You knwo I have been going through something similiar..and hopefully it will all work out for you. I think it is hilarious that people want to now if they need to have the money when they go to get the dress. It's like you wanna say "no, they just give the out for free now"!!!

Kacie_bride
06-02-2006, 12:14 PM
Stacey, thank you so much!!

Today another one of my BM told me she doesn't have the money. The orders all have to go in at once so everyone has to pay before the order can even go in. It irritates me that they knew about it for this long and I told them what month I was even wanting to do the orders in!

As for the BM I only know of 2 out of the 5 that are coming for sure. Then out of those 2, only 1 of them can pay. Thank God that one is my MOH and at least the most important one of them has her stuff together.

Naomi, sometimes I feel like you about the only people wanting to listen about weddings are people planning one or have just finished. I try not to talk about it to much to people who are not invovled or do not seem to care. I don't want to have people say that it is all I do now.

So Angel have you gotten your BM straightened out? I will look in your journal to see. This is why I wanted them to get in there that early. For one it will take 6-8 wks (or so they tell me) for the dresses to come in. That means that will be around August and then they probably will need alterations. You know most of them will not have the money then to pay for that either. So I feel the need to do it early so they will actually do it!

WhiskeyGirl
06-02-2006, 01:27 PM
Kacie,

Don't these girls have credit cards?? I know I've had mine since I was 18! When it came for my SIL's wedding I didn't have the money either but I was able to put it on my credit card and pay it off as I saw fit!

That is terriable that in six months they couldn't get their act together to save a $140! I pay that for groceries every two weeks!! I'm sorry none of them are co-operating and you really don't want to put the money out for them because what are the chances of them paying you back in a timely fashion if they couldn't save it in the first place! To have saved less than $25 dollars a month, they would have had more then enough for the dress!! I hope you can get it figured out, its such a pain to wait on other people all the time, especially when it comes to your wedding. It takes a load off every single time you have something else taken care of! I hope you can figure something out Hun! Good luck!!!

Shawna,

Most of them do have credit cards. Here is what I know as of now. My MOH is coming tomorrow and she is going to be able to pay. Another BM is coming and she will not be able to pay so she is just going to try on the dress and see what size she will be ordering. I don't know about the 3rd one because she doesn't know if she is going to make it or not and she is the one I wrote about earlier that her dad hasn't worked in 4 wks bs. Another one of the girls left me a message today and she works tomorrow, but she is off next Saturday. She and I are going to go then. I have not got a hold of the pregnant bm, but we already have her size and we can't order them without everyone's money anyway, so it's not that big of a deal right now.

I guess I am going to have to set a date and if they have not paid for the dresses I am going to have to boot them.

06-02-2006, 05:30 PM
Hey Kacie, I feel your pain girl. I had to fire my MOH for a few reasons, but one of them was that she said she couldn't afford the dress, and turned around and told me , in the same conversation, about a new dress/shoes that she bought for her new boyfriends' friends' (whom she never met) and that she was going up to Vegas for it. I am buying one BM dress, but that is because I didn't feel right about asking someone else in crunch time and expecting her to pay for it.

Good luck with that. I hope it works out better for you than it did for me.

Thanks everyone. I don't know if we are even going tomorrow now. One of the girls who said she was going to go said she was getting up early to get "stuff" done around her house and then she'll see if she can make it. So if she doesn't come I am not even bothering to have my MOH come down unless she wants to be the only one. The reason I wanted us all to go together was because I wanted everyone to meet and we were supposed to all go out to the Olive Garden afterwards.

I'll go next week with my BM that is working tomorrow, but after that I'll just set a date and tell them they need to have the dresses purchased and ordered by then.

We'll see what happens tomorrow.

Kacie,

Stop and remember no one is as excited about your wedding as you are. That is just how things go. Becuase of that they all have "better" things to spend their money. To some people $140 is nothing. To others it is a lot. You have 6 months to go, don't worry about it. The store told me my girls had to have their dresses ordered by August to get them in time for my May wedding. Most of the girls didn't get over there until February and the dresses got here in the begining of April. You have LOTS of time. (My dresses were the same price as yours too but I have one girl with 4 kids trying to do back to school and then Christmas shopping, another girl who was in high school working a couple hours a week, and another who was a substitute teacher) Trust me no matter when they order those dresses, they will be in on time.

Kacie_bride
06-03-2006, 09:51 AM
It's not so much even the fact that they can't go or don't have the money the right now. It is the fact that I told them back in January the price of the dresses and I told them in March that I wanted to have them ordered in June. Then I told them 2 weeks ago the exact date I wanted to go and every one of them but one said she could make it. That is why I am upset. I am upset because they all told me they were coming until the last minute.

Well it is official, we are not going to have them try on the dresses today. Everyone backed out except one girl and I just called her and told her it was no use going over there today. I guess I'll call my mom now and give her the news. She was supposed to meet me over here and come with us.

Oh, Kacie, that sucks!! I'm so sorry!! It's just awful that you can't depend on your own BM's to follow through when the bride wants to get together with them. Now it's going to be hard for you to trust that they will be there when you need them. Good luck getting your girls together! Keep us posted on your progress!

I understand how frustrated that you are. But, people have things that come up. I advise you to do what I did. I went by myself and picked out a dress that I wanted them to wear. The store took down all the information. When I got home I emailed the girls the store name, price, and date that they had to have their deposit and measurements in by. End of disucssion. I suggest anyone do the same. ALl of that coordination is never going to work out. You are never going to get 4 or 5 women all on the same page at the same time. Don't even stress yourself trying.

Well this is what is going to happen. I am going over there this afternoon and I am putting the dress on file. I am setting a date that they must have them purchased and ordered by and that is that. Today the plan was supposed to be all of us are going over there and we were going to go out to eat afterwards. My mother was going to buy all 5 girls and me a meal at the Olive Garden.

I am going over there next weekend as well with one of them. I knew she wasn't going to be able to make it today because she works and she lives out of town. She is off next weekend and will be visiting her mother who lives here so I told her that I would go with her then. I am not upset with her because she let me know that 2 weeks ago.

I feel better now. I went over to David's Bridal and now the dresses are on file. They need to have it done by the end of the month.

I also got some retail therapy today. I got a new entry hallway rug because our roommate's dog chewed up my other one. This rug is MUCH nicer than my other one and if she tears this one up he can buy a new rug. I also got a kitchen rug. (I am in the process of changing the colors in my kitchen from blue to red.) I got a new pair of khakis (they were on super clearance at Kohl's for only $7!) I got a bracelt at Foley's. Also at Foley's I got a new set of 300 thread count sheets and a conture pillow. They were both 75% off!

Today we met with our pastor after church. Our service is pretty traditional. We are making some adjustments from the Lutheran Hymnal. We are not having communion because the only Lutheran guests are my immediate family and my mother's side of the family. Justin's family are all Baptist except Justin (he converted) and most of our friends are either non-religous, a couple of Catholics thrown in, or Baptist. It would seem really weird to have communion for about 1/3 of the guests. We are also not doing any kneeling because I don't really want to kneel in my dress.

We will be having two readings and I'm assumming it looks like the ceremony will last about 30 minutes.

Well today I got a bm sized for her dress. 2 down, 4 to go. I talked to them today about my pregnant MOH and she suggested that we bring her in and we can try different styles on her that may work with a prego belly. They even have a belly they can put on her! How awesome is that! I was thinking maybe something with an empire waist. We could get it big even with the belly and it can always be altered down. I know that you not only have to make room for the belly, but the rear end and hips usually gets bigger during pregnancy as well.

I am going to talk to her then about when to set up an appointment to have her try on some different prego dress styles. Other than that we need to get the invitations ordered soon. I need to ask mom about when we are going to do that. After that is done I want to work on selecting a florist.

Kacie, I am sort of worried about you not having selected a florist yet. Christmas is a big season for flowers and the florists really book up fast. I would get on that right away, if I were you. Christmas is such a wonderful time to get married, not only because of the flowers, but because there is such a special feeling in the air. And your wedding is going to be so awesome!!

By the way, how did the wedding go at your venue? Was it nice? Did you get a good feel for how your wedding will be? Let us know.

I guess I'll have to get on with finding a florist asap. We'll have to make some calls next week I guess.

The wedding at my site is today! It has been raining all morning and it is supposed to be an outdoor wedding. :bbcry: I feel bad for them. I know you always have a back up, but when you have your heart set on something it still hurts. Maybe it'll clear off before this evening. I'll let you all know!

Here's a list of major things that I need to get accomplished by a certain time. The small things i.e. ring bearer pillows and decorations will just get done whenever.

June: order invitations, begin talking to florist
July: get BM dresses ordered, book florist
August: register for gifts
September: make sure flowergirl dress patterns are picked out
October: bridal shower
November: around November 30 mail out invitations, have Thanksgiving!
December: graduate from college and get married and have Christmas!

Well since there's not much going on here on onewed and I'm bored out of my mind right now and Ellen inspired me, I decided to write in my journal!

Just browsing on the web I have found these pew bews that I like. I am not having pews, we have chairs, but I might find something to do with them. They are only $7 so I might order them. Well rats, it wont post the pic. Well here is the link to it anyway. http://www.balsacircle.com/Pages/Snowflakes-Winter-Pew-Bows-8421.php

I also found these snowflakes to put on my cake and put on the tables. The pic looks big, but they are only an inch.

http://www.bridalpeople.com/wedding-confetti/images/9781.jpg (javascript:void(0);)

These snowflakes are 11 inches and will be hanging from the ceiling.

http://www.balloons-galore.net/prod_images_large/1629-461.jpg

And this is the cake topper that I think we are going to buy.

http://www.balloons-galore.net/prod_images_blowup/4031.jpg

I really like that one cake topper I posted a month or so ago, but this toppers is around $30 and the other one was well over $100. Sometimes you just have to not have some things.

My mom right now is working on finding an aisle runner. That has been a big thing to us all along. She has decided that she wants it to be red carpet now. I'm sure the money that was not spent on the cake topper will be spent on a carpet aisle runner for sure!

Kacie_bride

I like the pew bows. As for the aisle runner, talk to your florist. They should have several that they either rent out of just lend out to weddings that they are providing the service for. That is where I got mine. She didn't even charge me for it.

This is pretty cool. I was talking to my mom this evening and she had been on the phone with her friend. Her friend lives in Dallas. Dallas is about 4 hours from here. She asked my mom if Deana (one of the ladies that is going to host a shower for me) had set a shower date for me yet. She has not yet. My mom's friend said she needed to know when the date is because she wants to make it down for the shower!

I thought that was neat that she'll drive 4 hours just to come to my shower! She and my mom have been friends since high school, and I was a flowergirl in her wedding, but I only see her once every few years or so. And besides, she's coming to the wedding. I never imagined she would come down twice! I just thought it was cool!

Today we have exactly 6 months to go. I am hoping it will go fast.

Yesterday we talked to 3 different florist. I think we found one that we like and we are probably booking her. She seemed the most personable and reasonable. Her ideas and books were beautiful.

The other two florists were quaks if you ask me. The first one was horrible. She told us we would have to make an appointment just to discuss anything. The consulation fee is $25. We didn't want price quotes or any details. We just wanted to get to know the florist and maybe get a few general ideas about how the particular one works. She then proceeded to say that when we made an appointment we had to call the day before because they are owned by the funeral home and if they have a funeral we would have to cancel the appointment. I was like what if there is a funeral the day of the wedding? Are you going to just not make the arrangements and bouquets then.

The next lady was alright. I'm sorry to say this, but her appearence is what got me on her the most. She was also telling me she thinks I should wait until November to worry about it. Back to her looks. She had a safety pin earring and a rebel flag Lynard Skynard t-shirt on. She looked like some biker chic. Whatever, do what you want to do and wear what you want to wear, but I have a certain image of how a florist is supposed to look. I don't want a motorcycle mamma doing my flowers.

For the past few days we have not done anything wedding related. Since my cat went missing I have not really felt like doing anything wedding. I just miss her so much. I have been crying off and on for 2 days now. Justin has been great. He went over to the church today because someone was there and he talked to him. He said he would make an announcement at church on Sunday so if someone from there took my cat thinking it was a stray they could bring her back. He also went across the street to the convienent store and asked them if they happened to see her. I have noticed that I have been more upset about Lilly than I have been when I've lost people. I actually feel that my animals are my children, especially these cats. I bottled fed them, which included getting up in the middle of the night when they were very young. Kittens need to eat every 3 hours or so at first so I would set my clock for 2 AM and then get up again at 5:30 or 6:00 to feed them. I also made their formula myself with a recipe given to me by the vet I worked for. I didn't just buy the powder stuff. It is gross, but you also have to make them go to the bathroom. They have to be stimulated or they can't go. You do this by wiping a wet clothe on their rearend. This is alot of the reason I have such a strong bond with them. I did not have to do this with my dog, but I have a strong bond with her because she has spent so much time with me. She rides with me in the car and goes with me anywhere dogs are permitted.

Anyway, back to the wedding stuff. Everyone is probably tired of me going on about Tiger Lilly. I just miss her so much. We got our first wedding gift today! Justin's mom took us to buy a mattress. She had told us she was going to buy us one, but she decided to do it early because ours is so horrible. We got a Sealy Posturpedic from Mattress Firm. Our mattress is a hand-me-down that is 30 years old. It is worn out and there is an indent in the middle. I try to sleep as far on the side as I can to stay out of the hole! The mattress we selected was not in stock so we have to wait until Saturday to pick it up. I was thankful, but I was pretty down about Lilly so I wasn't that enthusiastic. She knew, so she will not hold it against me.

The other wedding thing is I now have a date for one of my showers. It will be on Satuday, November 11. That is kind of cool to have a date for that.

We got a few things accomplished this weekend!

1. My pregnant MOH went with me and we found her a dress! Yippee! So far 4 of the 5 have tried on dresses and 2 have paid so far.

2. I found necklaces for all of my BM. I wasn't even looking for them. I was at Steinmart with my mom looking for shirts and I was browsing through the jewelry and found them. They are perfect. I will take a pic of them later because they are at my mom's house. They are Austrian Crystal necklaces. They are gorgeous and they were only $20 a piece.

3. I started looking for honeymoon clothes. Really I am looking for a new bathing suit. This is terror! I am about to give up and just start wearing one pieces. I have tried on about a million bathing suits and none work. I want to wear a 2 piece, but I am very busty. My chest is big, but I am not big everywhere else. I even have problems in the separates. It is pretty awful. It seems like all they have are these little string bikinis that I can't wear. I want to have them cut off!

On Saturday we went to the Bridal Extravaganza in Houston. It is advertisied as the largest bridal fair in the United States. It was so much fun! It is biannual and I went back in January too, but this time we were more focused. It is easy to get overwhelmed when you look at everything. We just looked at decorating ideas, bouquet ideas, bouquet preservation, and invitations.

I had picked out some invites that we were pretty close to buying, but now found another one I like better. I'll have to see if I can look it up on the internet later. It will require extra for postage, but I don't care, they're perfect.

I also saw a red rose and calla lilly bouquet and I know I made the right flower selection for me! It was a bouquet to die for! It was just stunning. I was so glad I saw that.

This is totally unwedding related, but I just figured I would post it here. As some of you may know there is a tropical storm out in the eastern Caribbean right now. It is expected to be in the Gulf Coast by Monday. By tomorrow it will probably be a hurricane. I know it's early and there is no way to know where it is going to go after it gets into the Gulf, but it is an eerie feeling. I usually don't pay that much attention, but after last year it makes me a little nervous.

Last year we were hit by Hurricane Rita. I live around 45 minutes away from where the storm made land fall. A direct hit probably would have caused me to loose my whole house. We did loose half of our roof and our home was uninhabitable for several months. We had no power for 2 weeks and no water for 5 days. It was not a fun experience. We evacuated during the storm, which was crazy to say the least, but we were about 200 miles inland and that night the wind was still blowing like crazy. We came back home the morning after the storm. Our street looked like a war zone. There was a tree in the middle of our barn. There were trees everywhere and power lines down. Shingles all over the place. At night it was so dark. It was so hot.

I just hope the storm stays away from us. I just do not want to deal with that again. It's not even the storm I'm scared of, it is the aftermath. That is where the real misery lies.

We'll just have to wait and see.

Oh yeah, I also went through Hurrican Alisha, but I don't remember it. I was to young. My parents said it was pretty scarey. The electricity was out for just a couple of days that time and they never lost the water. Then we had Tropical Storm Allison and that was just a bunch of flooding-we're used to flooding. There have been other tropical storms, but you can't remember them all. Usually when it is just a tropical storm people just go on with life as usual. No big deal.

Me too! The whole Gulf Coast deserves to be spared this year. Every single Gulf Coast state last year got smashed.

This weekend I was out of town, so I have so much catching up to do on the board! I came back very late Saturday night (well technically Sunday morning). I slept in and did not go to church. When Justin and I got up I convinced him that we should go register for gifts!

It was so much fun! We registered at Kohls and Bed, Bath, and Beyond. I still have to go on-line and fix a few things. I also have a couple of items to add that were not in stock at the store. I was really surprised how Justin and I were at the store. I had expected it to be really fustrating because our tastes are really different. He likes things to be western looking and I don't. We did not get into any disputes about the things we wanted. He is going to let me be the decorator. However I think we will have a nice western office for him.

I'll post some of my favorite picks on here when I go to the site to fix things!

Bed Bath and Beyond is the best!! We cant register at Kohls because ours isnt that good, so we're going to Macy's instead. I totally know what you mean about the different tastes. Jonathan and I are like that and when we went to Bed Bath and Beyond yesterday, we surprisingly agreed on a lot.

I'm glad you had fun and got yourself all registered!!

I am a Kohl's addict! I also love Bed, Bath, and Beyond. I really like Kohls because of all the good sales they always have.

I am still going to register at Wal-Mart. I am just doing it on-line. In fact I am working on it now. There is not that much that I want or need from there. Don't get me wrong, I love Wal-Mart. I buy my food and cleaning stuff from there, but that's about it. Most of the stuff they have I have found other places that I like better. I need to register there because I live in small town and the ladies at church want to throw me a church shower. I can't expect these little old ladies to drive 45 minutes away to the other stores. A few of them only come to town on Sundays-for church and Wal-Mart.

We registered at Target. We put a lot of the stuff on that registry that we were going to get at Williams Sonoma and Kaufmanns just because they had the same brands for about 15% less than the higher end stores. So you might want to check the pirces and the brands before you settle on anything.

I thought about Target, but the Target closest is the same distance as Kohls and Bed, Bath, and Beyond. I am not very familiar with Target because we don't go there very often. I might step foot inside one once every 3 years or so.

Well, check WalMart though. I don't know what brands that they carry since I don't usually go there. But I would assume that it and Target would be similiar in some aspects like toasters and drinking glasses. I would also assume that the prices would be similiar; if not slightly less at Walmart to stay competative.

We have a Kohl's, Wal-mart, Target, Bed Bath and Beyond, JC Penny, Sears, and Macy's so we looked at a lot of options at all of those places. We found that we liked things better at Target than Walmart and Bed Bath and Beyond a lot better than any of the department stores. Our Hecht's is turning into a Macy's so we're registering there for our fine china and some higher-end stuff there.

Kacie, I love Kohls too. We registered at BBB and Target. I found a lot of decorating stuff I liked at Kohls, but I didn't like as much of their Kitchen stuff. Target was great for us. Had a lot of the same stuff BBB did, but at a better price.

Here are some of my top picks at Kohls. It was because of these 2 itmes that Kohls was neccessary!

I love both items!! Very nice...! Jason and I just got a California King in November so I had to get a new set of bed sheets so my mom and I went out to Linen's and Things and I was hoping to spend about $150 with specific orders from Jason NO FLOWERS!! So I find sheets that I like in our bed size and they are only $300+ so I got them...I love them and they will not be replaced until I get my money's worth, which could be like in 2015!

Yeah Justin isen't big on flowers either, but for some reason he likes the bed set. I don't think he likes the dishes, but he does not really care about the kitchen anyway.

Sheets are ridiculous. I don't understand it. Yet, I go out and shovel money into them like no one's business too. They do it because they know we will pay. And they never last long enough to get your money out of them!

By the way, Kacie, I like your bedding set too.

Thank you. Yes sheets are ridiculous! I got a good deal on some recently, however. Since Foley's is now going to be Macy's they have had some really great sales to rid themselves of merchandise that will not be carried over. I think I got a really nice set of sheets a month or so ago for $17. I was excited about that!

Kaufmann's here is turning into Macy's. I was there last night and they are FINALLY starting to bring in some of the new stock. I was checking out shoes and makeup. Thank God. I should go back today and check out the hosuewares. I could use some new towels and such since no one got them off of our registry. Maybe if my headache goes away I'll do that this afternoon.

I just got back home from picking them up! I had to drive into Houston to get them. I waited until mid day so I didn't have to deal with as much traffic. Interstate 10 can get really ridiculous, especially with all the construction.

They are pefect!!!!! I will scan them here in a minute. I also got red napkins with a snowflake and our name and wedding date on them and I got snowflake invitation seals. I dropped the napkins off at my mom's or I would scan them too. Get me a sec and I'll post the invite.

The scanned image is not turning out so well. I guess because it is white card stock the scanner is not recognizing it or something. The only part that turned out half way decent after scanning is the inside wording. :bbconfused: I'll post that.
