View Full Version : Shower Favours
Hey Ladies,
Could use some ideas! My FSIL is giving glass jars with a silver screw on lid as favours. They are a fairly decent size and pretty nice (Purchased at a Dollar Store). Lately she has been expressing to us that everything is costing a lot of money, go figure huh!...lol....Anyways, I am trying to come up with cheap ways to fill them to try and save her a little cash. My idea to her was there is clear grass (like the stuff at Easter) that you can buy and fill the jar with and then wrap them in cellophane. What are your thoughts on this? The jars are approx. 6-7" high, maybe more and filling them with something may cost a small fortune. There are 105 of these to fill. Thanks for your ideas and input. It is greatly appreciated.

Here is the stuff I am describing (Easter Grass)-this comes in clear/earidesant

YOWSERS! 105 favors? I thought my sister's bridal shower was huge at 70 people.
How about looking up some of the "in a jar" recipies and putting the fixin's for brownies or something in each jar, with a tag attached that says "How sweet it is!" and the directions. That shouldn't cost too much.
The Easter grass idea sounds ok too.
Thanks Stacey. I appreciate your ideas. I think my FSIL is going to price that also. In your opinion, do you think this will cost alot? Even though you are buying ingredients in bulk, we still have to measure 105 times..lol....

You could get a whole bunch of easter candy in bulk and do it that way. I mean, she didn't have to even give favors. She knows that, right?
Good luck. Weddings cost a lot of money. That's just the way it is.. Sorry you have to deal with this.
Thanks Carrie,
I appreciate your ideas also. The shower is in June. I think now I am stressing more over this than her! Like I said earlier, there are 105 favours to wrap. And time is running out!.and I absolutely agree, weddings do cost alot of $$$$ and that's just how it is. There is really no way around it! Thanks again!

How about a garden in a jar?!
Put in some bulbs or seads and a little note on the type of plant it is and how to care for it. You could do a little tag saying somthing like 'As our love blossums so will these flowers.'

Oh, yeah!! That's a good Idea Jen! You could use some aquarium pebbles in the color that is predominant at your wedding, then use soil and some flower seeds. Get a small bag of bird seed, use that (it grows into grass) and some sunflowers, or something hardy and similar.
Sweet idea! If you could punch a hole in the bottom to let the water drain, even better. They could just add water. The pebbles will keep the dirt in.

I don't think it would be super expensive to do a recipe, depending on the recipe. Here's a few sites I found, just looking really quickly:

I think the last one is so cute...it's Love Soup.
Instead of trying to do all 105 jars, why doesn't your FSIL wait until closer to the shower when the RSVP's are in? Then, do a few extra, just in case someone doesn't RSVP and comes to the shower.
I don't know how big these jars are, but could you bake mini cookies, either your favorite or your FH's favorite and put them in the jars? Or, you can do my all time favorite - cake mix cookies - and watch for cake mixes to go on sale. I get a TON of regular sized cookies out of one cake mix...I can only imagine how many mini cookies you can get out of it.
