View Full Version : Waxing underarms?

I was thinking about having my armpits waxed before the wedding because I can never seem to get them smooth enough when I shave. I've had my legs waxed before and didn't think the pain was too bad (more like ripping a band-aid off), so I was just wondering how underarm waxing compared from ladies who have experience. :)

Whoa, I didn't even know they did that. Obviously I can't offer much info, but I would advise a practice round... I'd much rather have a little pit fuzz than ingrown hairs or a rash or something.

I have never waxed a thing so I don't know, but I'm interested in anybody else's experience!

I have never waxed a thing so I don't know, but I'm interested in anybody else's experience!

I had my legs and bikini area done and I can only say - OUCH!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The woman says .... "It will be easier the next time"
My reply ..... "I won't know because I am never doing this again" LOL

I can't believe I paid someone money to hurt me like that. If I didn't see different with my own eyes, I would have sworn I was bleeding! If all that wasn't bad enough, I started seeing "sprouts" within a week". No thanks, just call me Zorry baby! :)

To answer the OP .... don't you have to let it grow enough (about a 1/2") so that the wax has something to "grab" onto? I think letting it go that long would drive me mental.

I think it has to be about 1/4", but my hair grows so fast, that would only be a couple days without shaving. I usually shave in the morning and have stubble by the end of the day. My legs are quite the opposite; I can go for a week or so without having to shave them, lol.

I had it done and I wouldn't say that it felt good:bblol:...... but I didn't think that it hurt anymore then getting my eyebrows done. Definatly do a trail before your day and go to someone that you know has done it before. My friend did it and the girl ripped some of her skin off because it was so hot and had little scabs under her arms that took FOREVER to heal!

This just sounds painful! Legs are one thing but the armpits would be a WHOLE different story!!:bblol:

i would get refferals from friends, some people go to the same person over and over again cuz they are good and know what they are doing. i want to get lots of waxing done but only get my eyebrows done so i need to wait and ask my FSIL when she gets back from vacation lol

Why not get an epilator and try that? I have used that on my underarms before, and it was ok. Somewhat less painful than waxing.

I've had it done before, but it was called "sugaring" instead of waxing....They say it's less painful than regular waxing, because the stuff they use doesn't stick to the skin like wax does, just to the hair. I have to say, it worked pretty well, and felt like a sunburn the day I had it done, with no pain the day after. I'll be getting it done again for our wedding.

Well that doesn't sound too bad. :) Thanks for all your help! I will definitely have a trial run with someone before hand and let you all know how it goes.

I had it done once before a trip to Hawaii b/c I wanted that smooth look.. I actually got full leg, bikini, eyebrows and lip done and underarms were the most painful BUT so worth it!

Sounds terrifying. I've gotten my eyebrows waxed, and it doesn't hurt much at all, but armpits sound like a different story altogether. :petrified:

Did you end up having a trial run with anyone?

At 22, I'm a pro at getting my underarms waxed. It really isn't all that painful. The more often you get it done, the less the hair grows back. The less hair that grows back, the less painful it is the next time :) I've been doing it since I was about 17 so now its just one quick pull and I'm finished.

I'd say go for it, at least once, because its sooo worth it. Shaving for me too was a pain since it grows back so fast. I get them waxed probably about once a month and then use an epilator in between. Works like a charm :)

I haven't yet. I was going to wait until sometime this summer when I was going to the pool or beach or something. :) How was it the first time you went?

The first time I went was in all honesty a little rough. I was 17 and scared outta my mind (I worked myself all up and I shouldn't have). It's embarrassing to say but I have really pale skin, and really dark hair. I'm not lucky like some girls that get like 3 hairs in their armpits, I had quite a ton. The waxer made me nice and comfy and talked me through it. The soothing cream they put on afterwards is heaven :)

Once it was all over with though, I was golden and became addicted.
