Hey everyone. My wedding is in December. I'm having a winter wonderland theme (but not Christmas). I've got a lot of ideas about what I want, but I was wondering if anyone had some ideas I haven't thought about. My colors are red and silver. And speaking of the colors, does anyone know by chance where to get inexpensive table clothes in silver? I think I would like that.

Check out your local fabric store... they may have a good price on silver fabric. You may have to make them yourself. I haven't seen them anytime besides arround christmas time... You may not want to wait until the Christmas stuff is coming out.

For ideas.... i love the look of snowflakes incorporated into the decoration. I don't know why.... i guess because they are so unique and pretty, there are no two alike. The red and white with the touch of black is a really classy colour theme.
What ideas do you have so far?

I was defiantely thinking of snow flakes, but not over doing it with them. I found silk snow flake petals for the flower girl instead of flower petals. I am getting red monogramed napkins with our names and a snowflake on them. Even though I am not doing a Christmas theme I am using poinsettas. I am going to hang snowflakes like this from the ceiling if my hall has a ladder high enough and I can find someone brave to climb that high. These are 11 inches.

I like these candles as well. They are kind of pricey so I'll probably just buy a few to put here and there. This same site has giltter snowflake confiety to put on the tables. I also plan on using a lot of greenary and pine cones. I also am going to paint the gum balls off of a gum ball tree that I have in back yard silver and use them somehow maybe. My bridesmaids are wearing red and the flower girl will wear white with a red bow that matches the bridesmaid dresses around her waist.

Re: Winter wedding theme...

I was a my DR's office today and they had an old Christmas Better homes and Gardens mag. They made snow balls with white foam balls and white carnations. It really looked nice. And carnations smell great. Just a thought for you!

Kacie, I have a magazine right here with a pic of a Winter WOnderland theme to it and its white, silver, and a dark blue (not navy) It is asbolutley gorgeous! When I get home I will try to scan this pic, maybe you can use some of the ideas here.
They have the candles like yours sitting on mirrors....very pretty....the icicle lights and thin silver streamer hanging from the ceilings........You will just have to see...I cant describe without butchering it!

For a winter themed wedding I did a couple years ago, we used a lot of white lights, sprigs of evergreen and sugared birch branches. Favors were jars of hot chocolate mixes.

Their colors were ivory and chocolate brown. Bridesmaids dresses were chocolate brown, with a touch of sparkling bead-workon the bodice. The linens were ivory and the napkins were chocolate brown.

Ok.....be patient with me....I scanned the pic but its not showing up in color. And without the color, it looks, well, dull. I dont have it on the computer here at work, but I may post it anyway just so you can see, but i am going to try to rescan it.

I'm having a winter wedding also - in February 2007. We're using natural pine, winterberries and pine cones and snowflakes as an accent.

The main color will be burgundy, and accents of greens, browns and white. We're using a lot of candlelight to make things look warm and inviting.

Your winter wonderland theme sounds so great! I can't wait to see some of your ideas!

Check out my journal. We've bought a few things, and I have a ton of ideas.

Right now, I'm working on invites, I just can't get them the way I want them. They'll be a background of pine and winterberries, with the invite wording ontop of the pic. I just ordered some sample vellum to see if that will assist in giving me the look I want.

You know, if you are into sales, Wal-mart has the most beautiful fabrics and no they don't look cheap, however they are cost effective.

I know Wal-Mart has a good selection of fabrics. The only thing is I'm challenged when it comes to sewing things. LOL I can't even sew a button back on! I actually found some irridescent table cloths. They are not fabric, they are plastic. I found them at Hobby Lobby. I have not totatlly decided yet, but I have a table that is the same size of the tables that will be at the reception. I am going to put it all together when I get all the pieces I want and do a test run. I don't know when we'll get around to doing that, but I will post pics when I do.

I'm having a winter wonderland wedding too and I'm always looking for new Ideas! Mine is set for January 13, '07. It will be here before I know it. Anyway, I'm going with the colors turquoise, white, and silver. Most people use turquoise for summer or beachy weddings, but I decided to be different, haha!
The bridesmaids dresses are two-piece. The tops are white strapless with irridescent crystals all over. Then, the bottom is a taffeta turquoise A-line skirt. They are really pretty and flattering on all the girls.

But, I'm like you guys. I don't want it to look Christmasy at all. I don't even want any greenery. But I want lots of artificial white Christmas trees. I'm going to make big turquoise ribbons to go on top and let the long streamers hang down and just have white lights on them with snow drapes on the floor. I'm also using lots of white candles and christmas lights everywhere. I will be incorporating snowflakes here and there and I want my cake to have white snowflakes on it, as well.

But, I'm having a hard time finding white trees...does anyone know of a good place to find any? The few that I found are REALLY expensive and Wal-Mart only gets the 6.5" ones and I wanted some taller than that. Any help would be appreciated.

and good luck to all you brides!!!!

Welcome to the board! Have you found any green trees that were not that expensive? If so you could always spray paint them white. I don't know how that would look though. If you find the white trees let me know because that is a great idea!

That is so great! We will not have any snow I'm sure. It's only snowed here a couple of times in my life. However, two Christmas Eves ago it did snow!

I know!! I live in MS so we hardly ever see snow either. That's why I want to create the snowy wintery atmosphere, since people around are soooo not used to it, haha! My fiance and I love winter though and this whole thing was kind of his idea! I just hope I can pull it off and make it look nice...

oh And about spraypainting the trees white...I tried that on a little 2 ft tree I bought just to see how it would turn out. It looked pretty good because I sprayed the whole thing white and then I flocked the ends with the fake snow spray. It looked pretty but it took 2 whole cans of both the spray paint and the snow, haha! So imagine how much it would take on a bunch of really tall trees. But, it's still an option that I can always go with if I can't find the white trees!

I am also having a winter wedding - December 2, 2006. Our colors are dark red with accents of platinum and gold. I didn't really want to have a "christmas" wedding, but something festive and those colors will look gorgeous that time of year! I am having tons of candles to really set the mood of the room. Our reception site will be just gorgeous - the room has a lot of dark wood beams which will have icicle lights hanging from them. We are having simple centerpieces of tealight candles in clear glass holders, maybe with rose petals scattered around them. I can't wait to see it all come together! :)

FLOWERS FOR A WINTER WEDDING
By Dr. Leonard Perry, Extension Professor
Lisa Halvorsen, Garden Editor
While it's true that most weddings take place in spring and summer, many couples choose a winter date for the "big event."
According to the Society of American Florists, 13 percent of weddings take place in the winter, with 11 percent of those being Christmas weddings. Summer weddings account for 35 percent, spring weddings 29 percent, and autumn weddings 23 percent.
But even though fewer weddings take place in the colder months, that doesn't mean the winter bride is faced with a limited selection of flowers for her bouquet, the wedding party's flowers, and floral arrangements for the ceremony and reception. Traditional wedding flowers, including roses, lilies, orchids, and daisies, are available year-round, as are many exotic ones. However, the cost usually is higher for out-of-season or unusual flowers.
When planning a winter wedding, as for a wedding in any season, personal preference--and budget--will play a large part in what you chose for flowers. Some brides pick their favorites or follow the long-standing tradition of an all-white bouquet, symbolizing purity.
Others base their choices on what's available locally, what complements their color scheme or bridesmaids' dresses, or on what each flower means. Gardenias symbolize joy, daisies innocence, and roses represent love and happiness, for example. Red tulips say "I love you" while white ones signify "I am worthy of you."
The colors of the season also come into play in decisions about flowers. Christmas brides often choose red or burgundy as one of their colors, using red roses, carnations, calla lilies, and other red flowers in their bouquets with accents of silver, white, and green, other colors traditionally associated with this holiday.
Poinsettias, amaryllis, and evergreens are popular choices for decorations while holly branches and other plants with red berries are ideal for use in floral arrangements. For a seasonal touch, iridescent or frosted glass balls, snowflake ornaments, and glittery ribbons can be added.
If you choose red or green for the attire of your attendants, bring along a sample of the fabric when you meet with your florist to select your flowers. The "wrong" shade of green foliage or red blossom can clash with a gown of a different shade of the same color. For emerald green, for instance, you'll want to pick a true red rather than a maroon or burgundy for the bouquets. Limit the amount of green foliage although a variegated leaf might work well.
White is a popular winter color with flower choices including roses, tulips, freesias, hellebores, and mums, among others. But again, it's important to pick the right white varieties to go with your gown. White flowers come in varying shades from pure white to ivory and even a faint pinkish white. In addition, choosing the right foliage will help the bouquet stand out against the dress.
White can be used as an accent color for a bouquet of darker colored flowers or for floral arrangements and accessories to lighten up a room, especially one lit with candles for a romantic evening wedding. If your gown is beaded, incorporate tiny strings of white beads or pearls into your bouquet and table centerpieces. Frosted glass balls, mirrors, and acrylic icicles can be used as stand-alone decorations or incorporated into arrangements to complement a lacy gown.
Blues and purples, especially in combination with shimmery white, metallic silver, and glittery gold accessories, also create an illusion of winter and are popular with brides seeking a more contemporary look for their winter wedding. For flowers consider iris, freesia, statice, and heather. Or use blue or purple as an accent color, such as for iridescent ribbon on a bouquet or church pew; glass vases or bowls to hold arrangements of sparkly glass balls and greenery; or candles on mirrored surfaces. These are just a few suggestions for flowers for a winter wedding. For other ideas, browse through bridal and decorating magazines, or ask your local florist what he or she would recommend to help you realize your dream of a perfect wedding day.

A Winter Wedding Wonderland (http://blog.fiftyflowers.com/public/item/117435)

Tips in planning a winter wedding
http://duzins.smugmug.com/photos/58185869-Th.jpgWinter weddings are full of beauty. You are not limited by the season as some brides think, you can actually be inspired by many ideas the season has to offer.

Capture the beauty of snow (http://www.*******.com/ch_article.html?Object=A50225164127) without the cold. For your bouquet consider mixing in white stephanotis. These flowers have a star shape, while reminding us of snowflakes. You can also incorporate other white flowers, such as white roses and calla lilies, or accent your bouquet with tiny crystals to give it the sparkle of a morning snow.

For decorations, including wreaths and lanterns will give your guests a warm winter feel making them feel like they are in the comfort of their own home around the holidays. If you are getting married around one of the winter holidays (http://www.weddinggazette.com/content/004286.shtml), incorporate that into your theme.

Enjoy planning your winter wedding. Take some time to remember the things you love about the season and the memories and traditions you associate with it. Finding ways to tie those in will make your wedding day especially unique and memorable.

a DIY craft for table clothes could be your best bet. Go to a fabric outlet like Joannes or soemthing and you can get it pretty cheap. You don't even have to sew. Yiu can get the seam binding stuff or you can sew if you want to. Silver brings $ to a head for some reason especailly if your looking for metallics.
I sew and all that and I've always found that when doing this kind of stuff you can save a bundle this way.
You can always rent them too. I knwo here in Toronto there are a milliona nd 1 comapanies that rent event linens. Take a look, especially if you don't plan to use them again.
