Wow - we went last week to get our wedding bands picked out. Both of us wanted simple gold bands, so there was no reason to do this shopping months ago.

When we got to the first jewelry store, the clerk got to my FH before me and started showing him all these beautiful tungsten steel and other metals for wedding bands. He fell in love with one that was tungsten steel and gold...........and the price was over $1,600. She was really pushy about us ordering it because she said it took 4 - 6 weeks for them to come in. We had not budgeted for that much as he had always said he wanted a simple gold band, 7 mm. So I had already gone online and gotten price ideas for the budget.

He wasn't even interested in looking at other stores when we left, and was really down because we hadn't budgeted enough for his ring. I still just wanted a 4mm gold band and was ok with not changing that.

So we got home, and he went back out to run to the grocery store. I got online and searched for his band to see if I could find it at a better price.

OH MY GOSH ! I found it for UNDER $200 - the exact same ring, same warranty, and it would ship in 2 days ! So I ordered it and didn't tell him. He's been shipped off to Cincinnati for work and was only home for three days, then left again Monday and won't be home until 3 days before the wedding.

He is going to be sooooooo shocked and thrilled. It came in just now and it is lovely !

Here is a picture - it is the one with the gold band in the middle. The website was www.tungstenovernight.com and they rock.

My FH has a tungsten ring, too. It has a small diamond in the middle, as well. We bought it from Helzberg for $179, I think. I really like the look of tungsten. I'm sure your FH will be in for a very pleasant surprise!

Sounds like a great find!

This is also a great lesson to people looking for rings, it really seams like the jewelry store was charging waaaaaaay too much for a tungsten and gold ring. Certainly shopping around is the way to go!

I got FH a casual tungsten & carbon fiber band for his Bday this year (I'd gotten him a SS & carbon fiber bracelet for our anniversary, and he wanted this ring to go with it).

A local (chain) jewelry store had it for like $300 or something like that... I was more than willing to get it for him, but that was about my limit for his Bday gift, so I shopped around. Found the EXACT ring from a jeweler on Ebay for $25 -- shipped, with insurance, etc... it came to $38. *WOOT*

Always pays to shop around!

Tungsten is great, and $1600 is a ripoff!!! I've never seen a tungsten for that much unless there was a fat diamond on it! I got a tungsten ring for Matt as well - Mervyns had a 75% off sale... so I got it for $20!!!!

Matt bought a tungsten ring online from E-bay to use as his wedding ring and he LOVES it. We bought it for..... about $50 :)

A lot of jewlery places have an INSANE mark-up.

Yep, jewelry stores looove to mark up tungsten just because it's becoming so popular. The ones we found were about $300 and up. I *just* bought FH's ring on eBay last night, for about $60 with shipping:

Mine, however, is proving to be much more complicated to come by, and I think we're going to go back and see the guy who made my engagement ring. :sweatdrop:

Thanks for sharing that web site. We just started looking for bands and the tungsten band we looked at was 475 and marked down to 275. There was no diamonds or anything. Just a simple yet elegant band. It goes to show you that it pays to do some research.
