I have been on a diet since the first week of December. I have lost 10 lbs taking Green Tea and spice pills... and dieting.

I am starting weight watchers because my work will reimburse me if I complete the program. I am starting this because it'll help me put into focus the amount of food that I eat so that I can kick myself when I mess up and have to write it down. :D

Yesterday, we got a gym membership. Mine is only for a month, but I"m hoping to get a second job working at the gym, so time will tell if that works out.

For the next 30 days, I will be working out and dieting... and I want to see how well I can do for 30 days!

Monday, 2/11 -

Breakfast - Oatmeal and soymilk

Lunch - steamed broccoli/onions/carrots - Jelly bellies for dessert

Dinner - splurged, don't want to know, Hometown Buffet

Gym: Cardio - steps for 30 mins on level 2 intensity

Oh no you splurged for dinner and we DO want to know what you ate. Haha!

Good luck with the Weight Watchers. I think that it's wonderful that some workplaces are beginning to take an active role in employee health.

Hahhaaa.. I don't even remember all I ate.. I had the biggest dessert I've ever had and that was my day's worth of calories right there. Not happening again.. for a lonnnng time!

Alright, now I gotta learn how to figure out points... but here's today

Tuesday, 2/12

Breakfast - Oatmeal & Soymilk

Lunch - Steamed broccoli and onions, Jelly bellies for dessert (Couldn't keep my eyes open)

Gym - Cardio on the Elliptical for 30 mins

Dinner - 6" veggie sandwich on wheat bread with chipotle mayo, small side salad with honey mustard sauce, and a cup of green chile and chicken soup

Well, Tuesday night I started feeling a little scratch in my throat, and woke up on Wednesday morning to a crazy fever. The fever has since turned to coughing and congestion like crazy, I still haven't made it back to work.

Wednesday, 2/13

Breakfast: nothing

Lunch: Taco Bell (It's my comfort food)

Dinner: Sleep

OMG it sure didn't help my weight loss. I think I gained 3 lbs being sick :( I have no appetite, but I ate anyway, and it was once a day on Wed, twice a day yesterday, and I'm forcing myself to eat today!

Thursday 2/14

Breakfast: Nothin

Lunch: Chicken Noodle broth, 2 pieces of wheat toast with jelly, 1 piece of wheat bread with margerine on it.

Dinner: Chicken burrito smothered in enchilada sauce, a small chile relleno (OH I was grossed out, after I ate half my burrito, I realized the "Enchilada sauce" was more like GRAVY... It was just the chicken fat with enchilada seasoning! GROSS). Needless to say I won't be going there any more.

Maybe you're just holding a little more water weight and stuff right now since you're body hasn't been exactly right as of lately.

Here's hoping that's what it is! :flower:

Still feeling pretty down today... my throat has been killin me, and the sneezing is exhausting.

This morning I got up and made pancakes for breakfast... *note to self - glass pans do not make good pancake pans!* They were burnt on the outside and undone on the inside :(

I love to cook, and when I get to cookin, it's hard to stop... soooo I made a yummyyyy but not so healthy dinner tonight.

Saturday 2/16

Breakfast: 2 small pineapple pancakes with about 2Tbs of peanut butter and 4 Tbs of syrup

Lunch: n/a

Dinner: 1 Calzone loaded with peppers, onions, olives, 3 pieces of pepperoni, and of course.... cheese. 1 serving of pizza casserole (pasta, spaghetti sauce, cheese, olives, onions, peppers, pepperoni)

Alright, so I got some info on the WW meeting that I missed, so I'm going to *try* to keep track of my points on here as well.

I'm allowed 29 points a day for now.... and I don't have much of a points guideline to go by, but I'm going to try:

Monday 2/18

Breakfast: 3/4 cup of dry oatmeal with about 1/2 a cup of soymilk - still working on the points on this one...? (I left my slider at home).

Lunch: Leftover Pizza Casserole - I'm guessing by what little guidance I have that this was about 16 points

I talked with one of my WW buddies, so I'm looking at 2 points for my morning oatmeal, now I have to figure out how much my soymilk is. I'm going to guess 3 points for breakfast if I keep it at that.

Looks like dinner tonight allows me about 9 points - ish.

BS I say... They didn't tell us this when they asked us to sign up... I'm going to HR about it... I'll let ya know how that goes.

Half is so hard cuz it's soooo good! But yes, they're huge. Maybe I'll stick to the burrito bol. I think the burrito bol, as long as I don't get sour cream or cheese, is like 13 points. I can handle that :) I'm going to tally up the Bol in my WW website calculator :D

Yep, I use the website. I have found the same thing with the calculator (hand held) and the calculator on the site. And I also bought the food guides, and sometimes points are different between there and the site. I usually just go by what the site says, since that is where I log my food.

Are you on the flex plan? How many flex points to you use on average?

Yes, I'm on the flex plan. I've decided to go by the site rather than the book... I average about 28-30 points a day in the past week, but since yesterday was my first official meeting, I'm starting today on the 26 plan rather than the 29 that the book says. Now that I have the website, it's a lot easier to keep track of the exact points! :D

Justina,

I did WW super successfully a few years ago (lost 76 lbs in 8 months) and learned that the closer I ate to my real points range, the better I did with my loss. Be careful not to put yourself into starvation mode by not eating enough. You body won't let go of the weight if it wonders when and where you are going to get your next meal. If you aren't hungry and still need to get in points, have some peanut butter or something to push you closer to your points for the day. Keep up the good work! You are doing great!

Kelly

Thank you Kelly! Eating 5 times a day is hard for me, but oddly enough, I'm now hungry 5 times a day, so I"m trying to snack on carrot sticks, snow peas, whatever is very low or no points. Just to keep my metabolism moving. So far I feel great! Thank you for the tips, and that's a great idea about the peanut butter! When it's hard for me to get all my points in a day, I'll remember that all I need is a candy bar, scoop of ice cream, or some peanut butter hehe :)

Thank you! I was doing great until yesterday - then I went to Red Lobster (a seafood restaurant), and I went over on my points, then had the left overs today. But I'm not going over on my points today! I don't care what comes up. I'll eat cereal before I go out anywhere, but I'm not supposed to go anywhere tonight - supposed to clean house and work on my glasses... soooooo cereal and hopefully fruit tonight!

Grrnesss... gotta go grocery shopping, I'm outta fresh fruit and veggies :(

Is there a difference in points from the regular cheetos or baked cheetos? I'm just curious, I saw the baked and figured, why not try them, but there's something about the taste...

Thanks! I go weigh in tomorrow.. keepin my fingers crossed it can move again tomorrow! :D

Heh.. I thought there was a difference between baked and regular cheetoos, there's only a 40 calorie difference, which means 1 bag of baked cheetoos are 4 points.. Grrnesss... No more of those for me. The fat free lays are only 75 calories per serving and they taste fantastic!!! I thought when I got the baked cheetoos (from a vending machine), that they'd be something like the Lays, but not even close. But they sure were yummy!!!

Today I slept till about 9:30 then didn't even eat till almost noon... so I ate two pretty large meals today. I ate breakfast and then did yardwork for about 3 hours, then for 5 more hours I worked on Matt's truck with him.... so I think my activity points made up for the extra couple points I had for dinner.

After workin on his truck all day, Matt wanted to thank me for helping him, so he treated me to Panda Express - I can still count on 1 hand how many times he has gone with me to Panda, and that's one of my favorite places to go.

Sunday, 3/2

2 Morningstar Farms Sausage patties (vegetarian - 2.5 points)
1 WW Lasagna with Meat Sauce (I didn't eat most of the meat chunks cuz they tasted nasty, so I'm going to say 5 points on that one)
2 servings of cheese (6 points)
2 small corn tortillas (1 point)

Dinner: Panda Express Chow mein (I'm guessing 6 points), Tofu (3.5 points), Eggplant with red peppers (5 points).

The best thing do do is to look at the box for the fiber, calories and fat. Usually it has a before and after (if you add milk) section. This will tell you how many points it is. Chocolate cake mix + dr. pepper or cola = yummyness!

Mix a box of Angel food cake mix with a large can of crushed pineapple, juice and all. (Mix it in a big bowl, as the acid in the pineapple will cause the cake mix to expand)

Bake it in a 9x13 pan at 350 til it is golden brown on the top (about 25-30 minutes if I remember right)

This cake is so YUMMY and about 3 points per slice if you cut the cake into 12 slices. (so this is a pretty good size chunk of cake which was always important to me! I'm a quantity girl!)

CELEBRATION CAKE

Betty Crocker Super Moist Yellow Cake Mix
3 Egg Whites or ¾ cup Egg Substitute
1/3 cup Unsweetened Apple Sauce
1 sm can Mandarin Oranges in Juice

Frosting:
8 oz Cool Whip Lite
1 pkg Sugar Free Instant Pudding Mix (dry)
1 sm can Crushed Pineapple in own Juice

Preheat oven 350. Spray an 13 x 9 pan with cooking spray. Mix the cake mix, egg whites, apple sauce, and the oranges with their juice. Pour into the prepared pan. Bake 25-30 minutes until a toothpick comes out clean. Cool the cake completely.

For the frosting, gently fold together the Cool Whip, the pudding mix and the pineapple with its juice. Frost the cake. The frosted cake should be stored in the refrigerator.

18 servings, 3 POINTS each (I think 12 servings would be about 4 points each)

It is a little work, but worth it! No one ever knew it was a WW recipe when I would bring it to work!

1-POINT BROWNIE REVISED
3/4 C flour
1/4C plus 2 T cocoa powder
1/2 C sugar
1/2 C Splenda
1/4 tsp baking soda
1/4 tsp salt
1/3 C unsweetened applesauce
3 egg whites
1 tsp vanilla

Combine flour, cocoa, sugar, Splenda, baking soda, and salt and mix well. Stir in applesauce, egg whites, and vanilla. Spray an 8" square baking pan with cooking spray. Spread batter evenly in the pan. Bake at 350 degrees for 20 min. or until the edges are firm and the center almost set.

16 servings, 1 point each

These are cakey brownies rather than fudgy brownies. I think they are as good as the No Pudge mix, and they are only 1 point instead of 2 points. I usually cut these into 8 servings for a nice-sized 2 point brownie.

Tip: I found unsweetened applesauce in single-serving containers. That way I don't have to open a big jar of applesauce when I want to make these.

Do you have any different kinds of dips that you use with your fruits/veg? Like veg: hummus, yogurt/ranch mix, salsa, salsa verde, salsa mixed w/ light cream cheese, guacamole, or fruit: yogurt w/ agave & almonds or peanut butter w/ yogurt.

I have a hard time coming up with new snacks too. Lately I've been eating whole grain crackers w/ a big slice of tomato, & just a very thin slice of cheese. I've also been big on oranges for some reason. Maybe I'm low on vitamin c and my body is trying to tell me?

Well, good luck. Keep up the good work!

That's so rough to have to work around particular diet needs. I couple of months ago I was shopping at the grocery store. I was grabbing a container of tofu and then went down the aisle and got some soy milk. I guess that a lady was watching me do that because she approached me and asked me how I cooked the tofu, etc. It turns out her baby was just diagnosed with a condition where she could not have any animal protein. The lady didn't know what else to give her except for tofu. She was nearly in tears and said that she felt helpless. I went around the store shopping with her and showing her the different types of non tofu protein. Anyways, moral of the story is that I went home feeling so very thankful. I can't eat a lot of dairy, caffeine, or fat w/o having digestion issues but in the spectrum of things that's nothing. I shouldn't be eating those things anyways!

Good luck and have fun shopping healthy at the store!

Wow... I just realized how much I love hummus. I hit Safeway's health food aisle and picked up some garlic hummus, lowfat cream cheese, whole wheat tortillas, and some grillers and veggie patties. Now I have to go to the other grocery store (without Matt cuz he hates shopping) and get the rest of the groceries.

Snack - may be dinner, didn't want to go grocery shopping hungry: 1 slice of whole wheat toast (1 point), 1 Tbs chive low fat cream cheese (1 point), 1 Tbs Garden Veggie lowfat Cream cheese (1 point), 1 whole wheat tortilla (medium - 1 point), 2 Tbs Hummus (.5 points).

Today's total: 22 points

So I went grocery shopping and got tons of veggies. When I got home I made a big veggie soup out of the broth from the mashed potatoes from last night's dinner.

Veggie soup (0 points!!)

2 Leeks
2 small green onions (cuz I had them layin around)
bout a cup of carrots chopped
1/2 cup broccoli
1/2 cup cauliflouer (sp?)
A bunch of collard greens I had put in the freezer and now don't have room for
fresh basil
1/2 tomato chopped
Boiled it all for about 40 mins.

Gonna portion it out in 1 serving containers and freeze it somehow. I'm excited, I'm going to be eatin this for awhile :)

Keely, or anyone, any idea how many calories are in a fresh beet?

Yummm...that soup sounds so good. I love just throwing a bunch of things (that you need to get out of the fridge) into a pot and seeing what happens. Somehow, it's always way better than any recipe. We got some fresh collards from the farmer's market this morning...$2.00 for a big bunch! I think I'll make some black eyed peas to go with them.

I would think that a fresh beet (the normal smallish size) would be about 40 calories. More calories than the same size of veggie and less than that in fruit.

Thank you!! I wasn't sure how many calories are in fresh fruits/veggies. I ate a fresh beet last night - well 2 bites of one. They taste like DIRT  so I'm going to try to figure out how to fix em so they taste better. I love em pickled.

Alright, today's journal:

3/15, Saturday

Breakfast: On the road: 2 taquitos (11 points) OUCH

We're going out to dinner in 2 hours, so I'm sure I'll be dipping into the rest of my points... pasta:purplex: I LOVE pasta :purplex:

I looove pasta too. At home we have whole wheat pasta so it has a lot of vitamins/minerals, fiber, etc. I don't feel bad eating it until I top it with some cr@ppy creamy sauce!

Yeah, I'm not the biggest beet fan, in general. I like a salad at Grand Lux Cafe that has small chunks of yellow beet mixed with all kinds of other stuff. It gives it an earthy flavor. Chad cooked with them in culinary school and he liked them. I'll have to see what kind of magic he worked on them!

Oh man, I even went to the Old Spaghetti Factory website and decided AHEAD of time that I was going to have the Eggplant Parmigiana.. and they were one of the few that didn't serve it!!!

So I'm like ok, the clam sauce is low on calories let me try that - YUCK!!!

So I ended up getting the Chicken Marsala which was FIFTEEN POINTS! On top of the little dinner salad I had with a little bit of dressing and a piece of french bread. UGH.

So I went WAY over today. Here is my summary:

Breakfast: 2 Taquitos on the road (10 points)

Lunch: Subway - Veggies in a tortilla (3.5 points)

Dinner: House salad with Creamy Pesto dressing (SO YUMMY - 6 points!), 1 piece of french bread (2 points), Chicken Marsala with pasta (15 points - ish), 1/4 cup Spumoni (3.5 points).

I won't even list my total :(

Oh no...you tried to do a good thing and decide ahead of time and then it all got screwed up. It's really unfortunate that the safest thing to get at an American Italian restaurant is pasta w/ marinara sauce. I never get that though...it's boring. Real Italian food is generally so much healthier. :purplex:

I hope that you enjoyed your evening and didn't fret too much about your food choices. Just have an extra good food day tomorrow.

I thought about getting just pasta marinara, but red sauce gives me heart burn, so I tried the clam sauce which was half the calories of my favorite dish there (Spaghetti with browned butter and white mizithra cheese), and the clam sauce was nasty (the lady gave me alittle sample to taste). So I had to choose fast cuz EVERYONE at our table (14 people) were waiting on ME to order. I'm like hmmm.... at least the Chicken Marsala isn't too bad - then I realized it had my favorite pasta on it. OOPS. But it was soooo yummy!!! That's the first time I've had real pasta since I started WW.

I will be careful today for sure!!

Umm... maybe not for sure - I have another baby shower to go to. We'll see how that goes!

Looks like you are doing good with the WW points. I have been watching what I am eating and doing more exercise and I have lost about 8 lbs. It started off with my mom and I doing a combination of the South Beach and Atkins Diets. UGH talk about stressful. I love food and when you tell me I can't have something I don't like it. I know one thing that has helped a lot for keeping lbs. off is not drinking soda. FH has cut back on soda and started working out more and has lost 16lbs. (somedays it makes me feel like I am living in that commercial about the weight loss) I try to eat small meals with snacks throughout the day so I don't pig out at meals and not eat anything else throughout the day.

I also started watching Biggest Loser and have gotten a lot of great tips from the trainers. One of the biggest things that I did learn was don't skip meals because you need the calories to cut calories.

KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK! :goodluck:

What is your biggest weakness when it comes to food or snacking? Mine has to be candy.....just ask anyone I know they would totally agree! (in high school I was involved in sports and one of the other mothers asked mine how does she stay so skinny.....her reply was doritos, soda, and candy lots of candy - haha!)

Thanks!!! The thing I like about Weight Watchers is I can eat ANYTHING I WANT, but just in smaller portions. It's great!! You're right, don't skip meals. It's hard not to skip meals though cuz I'm used to eating like 2 a day maybe on the weekends, and I have to force myself to eat in the mornings.

That's alright, I don't blame you for avoiding this section! It has been working for me. And the only reason I've been eating healthy for the past week is cuz I was able to splurge on groceries on Friday. I learned the hard way that if the body doesn't get fresh fruits and veggies, no matter what else you eat, you're not going to lose. If you look at my journal from 2 weeks ago for a week you'll understand.

I have been trying to snack on veggies and fruit only, maybe some popcorn or something totally low on calories. I love that a lot of this healthy food that I've gotten is so yummy!!!

I also learned that I can eat fast food!! Carls Jr. has a BBQ Chicken sandwich that comes on a whole wheat bun and it's worth 7 points! Totally psyched!

I have been using the Weight Watchers Smart Ones frozen meals for when I can't make anything from scratch. They're cheapest at Walmart (like $1.63 ea), and then Target is about $2 ea. But if you find them at a grocery store they're usually on some sort of sale. They taste FANTASTIC too!!!

You should try it, Just figure roughly that 50 calories is 1 point. Unless it's like butter or something like that. When the fat grams are so high then the points go up. If you have any questions let me know!!

Thank you! The one thing I learned that really helps, is only buy the healthy foods. If you have cookies and chips and candy in the house, yer bound to eat it (well, I am anyway!), so I just don't buy it anymore and the temptation is not there anymore unless we go out. I also think about my April deadline - my dress doesn't fit me right now, and my goal is to put it on the first of May and have it fit *fingers crossed*!!!

HI!!! I was thinking about you yesterday (we made the cake with diet soda-fh has never had it before) Just wanted to check in and see how you were doing?

We found a few new things shopping last week that I thought I would share with you;Log Cabin Sugar Free Syrup, Egg Beaters (not as gross as it sounds-we use it in cooking too)), Check to make sure that you are using a low point bread (we use Healthy Choice 2 pieces of bread = 1 pt) Morning Glory Veggie Burgers, Special K Protein bars (they are three points, but they really fill you up and they help with a chocolate fix) Fiber One Carmel Delight Cereal.... That is all I can remember right now! Hope all is well!

I don't remember if you said you have tried the No Pudge Brownies (they are great by the way) If they don't have them in your area here is a recipie that a lady gave me from work that I thought I would pass along to you.

BLACK BEAN BROWNIES
1 Box Betty Crocker Low Fat Fudge Brownie Mix
1 (15oz.) Can Black Beans, rinsed and drained
1 Cup Water
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Puree the beans and water together until smooth. Stir into the brownie mix until combined. Spray a 9 x 13 pan with non-stick cooking spray. Puree the mixture into the pan and bake for 25-27 minutes or until a toothpick inserted 2 inches from the side of the pan comes out almost clean. Cool completely and then cut into 24 pieces. Don't worry, you can't taste the beans. This brownie is more like a dense cake like brownie.

Hey Brendalin! Thanks for checkin up on me :) I feel loved

I'm doing alright. I have been doing alright with my points for the most part, and eating healthy, but not losing much - if anything. I haven't weighed in over a week cuz last week our WW counselor wasn't here, so I passed last week. I weigh in this Thursday for the first time in 2 weeks, after a gain of .5 lbs 2 weeks ago.

Thanks for the list!! I'll have to print that one out! And the recipe sounds yummy!!!

Thanks. Here's a fact: I'm a wierdo! I can eat peppers/chile's that type of spicy, and I'm fine! I can eat hot sauce galore, and I'm fine. But when I get to eating like Bananas, Carrots, Tomatoes, marinara type sauce, citrus, apples - that all gives me heartburn. Sometimes I can eat something processed with them and it doesn't hurt as bad - but spaghetti gets me every time :(

So I made the remoulade today. I used too much lemon (cuz I didn't have limes) and I didn't have fresh cilantro. So I made my own rendition of it I guess LOL. It was a little too lemony, but it was pretty durned spicey!! But it was YUMMY! I used it as a salad dressing and potato dip for dinner :) Thanks for the recipe! I'm going to have to make it according to the directions next time - with lime and cilantro instead of lemon and italian seasoning LOL.

Weird, but I stopped drinking milk a loooong time before I stopped eating meat and a heck of a long time before my current attempt to stop eating anything with dairy in it. I did research about what milk was actually composed of and that did it right there. I just didn't ever want to gulp down a glass of that stuff again. I took Matt to the hospital today - he's been having a pain in his abdomen for 4 days. Come to find out he pulled a muscle. Also, his blood pressure is through the roof! He's at 160/98. Doc says he has to lose weight and exercise and eat healthy. YAY!!!! I'm SO HAPPY!!! Now he's GOTTA do it :) So we're going to start walking in the evenings, and I'm supposed to help him eat healthier :)

Ew, a pulled muscle doesn't sound like much fun! :bbeek:

Woah, his blood pressure is high! I know that you're going to be so supportive though and help him lose the weight. Now you can work on being healthy together and that's great. :grinhappy:

We're talking about going on the 'Subway' diet... ONLY as long as the footlong sandwiches are $5  But when they go back up, then we'll have to figure something else out. BUT, Subway AND Quiznos are doing the $5 footlong deal right now. So I"m thinking, if we get a footlong each at lunch, and eat 6" for lunch and save the other 6" for dinner - then eat a big salad with em, then we'll be doing good. I'm going to try to get Matt to do that with me between now and the wedding and see how well we do. We both need to eat healthier, so.... fingers crossed!!

Watch out for all of the sodium in the lunch meats because of his blood pressure!

Agreed! So I'm trying to get him to go with Turkey or Chicken cuz I know that ham is a lot saltier than the other two..... But they're still a cut down from what he usually eats :)

Good! The oven roasted chicken breast has 830 mg, the roast beef has 900, and then the turkey breast is 1000. Those values are for the 6 inchers. I'm not crazy, I just happened to have a nutrition guide menu in my purse! I have one for jamba juice too. Haha. :D

Thank you for reminding me about the Subway deal, by the way. I'm so getting a Subway tomorrow! lol

Thanks!!! Wow, the turkey is a lot! I haven't had any good experiences with their chicken, so I'm gonna recommend the roast beef then... although it's not on special :urgh:

LOL

I was so bummed with the sandwich I had!!! The chicken was BLAND, the sandwich was just plain nasty. I shouldn't have even eaten it but since Matt spent like, $6 on it with the onion rings, I just had to eat it. Oh well, lesson learned - don't order chicken from JITB :urgh:
