View Full Version : Will I be overdressed?

I went out with my MoH and bought my dress as soon as FH and I found our first venue and had a contract in our hands to review and sign. Originally, we were having a semiformal event with 120 guests at a swanky historical venue by the ocean. While we were looking over the costs of everything a few days later, we came to the depressing realization that this venue, which was one of the least expensive in the Bay Area, was still above of our budget.

So we decided to cull the guest list down to the immediate family and the bridal party and their families and run away to Catalina Island to marry (which, is secretly, what we've always wanted to do-- the larger wedding was more to please others than anything else). There are now around 30 guests. Our ceremony will be on a balcony of a cute little country club there, and the reception will be in the really nice dining room downstairs.

I have a semiformal gown, which I LOVE. I really can't imagine getting married in something else. I also have a single-tier fingertip veil with a pencil edge that I bought super-cheap and a cute little crystal tiara. As much as I love my little bride ensemble, I'm worried that these are too fancy for the event now.

Your thoughts?

IMHO - when you are the bride, there is no such thing as overdressed.

Wear what you want and feel beautiful! It's your day :)

RosieAngel !

That dress is absolutely fantastic ! You are going to be such a lovely bride and you will regret not wearing it on your special day.

Wear it, enjoy every single moment of it !

I like the plan you have for the smaller wedding and am getting to the point of wishing I had done the same.
