How far before the wedding did you register? And how many different places did you register?
We're at 7.5 months (EEK!) till the wedding, and I'm thinking it's time for us to go ahead and register. FH thinks it's too soon (but then, he also thought it was okay to put "we're registered at...." notes in with the invitations :bblol:).
So how far out should we do it? Is it too soon to do it now?
Also, I've been trying to just register at one place, but he's thinking 2, or maybe even 3 places. Is 2 too many, is it better to just stick with 1?

I have read 8-10 months out. I am getting married in Sept too and I registered about a month ago. I only registered at 1 place, but I think no more the 3 is fine.

It depends on when your showers or any other parties where people might give you gifts are. I would register about 4-5 months before the wedding or a month or two before any parties. If you register too early, you risk items being discontinued and you'll have to go back and update it with new stuff anyway.
I think most people register at 2-3 places--usually a cheaper option (like Target or Wal-mart), a more mid-range option (Bed, Bath, and Beyond) and then possibly a department store, but it's complete up to you. :)

I think most people say 6-9 mos before, so you could go now :)
Personally I don't think you should register at more than maybe 3 places.

Heh. I registered as soon as I could, knowing my family and getting to know HIS family. It's a good thing I did, since my registry info is on our wedding website, his family has been buying us stuff off our registry for birthdays and Christmas! *sigh* 16 months from now, when we do get married, there will be nothing left :)
We are also registring for our DisneyWorld honeymoon but Disney's policy is that you can't register for your honeymoon until after you book your trip, so we'll have to wait until late August to do that. However, that will be within 12 months, so I don't think that's too early at all.
Right now we're registered at Target and Williams-Sonoma for a total of about 15 items. I may put our Amazon Wish Lists up there too, in addition to Disney, just to make sure that everybody who wants to get us some *thing* as opposed to buying two hot stone massages at Disney's Spa can do that.
We registered for our honeymoon because we're both getting married for the second time, we've both been living on our own for a good 15 years each, and there's very little in the way of 'stuff' that we need -- but neither of us have been on a true vacation for as long as we've been living on our own, and it's about dang time! We don't need china or wine glasses or rugs or bookshelves, but we DO need a vacation, so that's what we're registering for.
Whitewater (I figure, register for as many places as you want to -- it's your guest's decision as to what to buy. If you're registered in ten different places that only means that your guests have more to choose from. It's not like you're expecting them to buy one thing from all ten places, right?)

My concern is this: originally we were planning on just registering at Target (we looooove Target)... but I recall some girls posting up last year that Target had changed their registry/return policy, and basically it.. well... sucked. So Bed Bath & Beyond is the next logical choice, but I wanted to also have some lower priced choices, so then we were thinking maybe JC Penney or something...
B B & B is a given... just can't decide if we should do more than one place. *shrug*

Just as an FYI if your register at Bed Bath and Beyond they send you an email when something on your registry is discounted.

All good points, ladies... so maybe 2 or 3 places isn't so bad... Hmmm....

The way I understand the issue with Target's new policy is that you will have trouble returning or exchanging anything without a receipt/gift receipt.
I still love Target, but I always send gift receipts. I think the employees are really pushing it now too; especially when someone is buying gifts from a registry.

Hmmm... well that's something to consider... I can't say everyone we know will remember to enclose the gift receipt!

We registerd at The Bay and a friend of mine register at Sears, both places I found if you registerd more than like a month before the wedding everything got discontinued. Check and make sure that were you are registing this doesn't happen. A big pain for people when looking for something to buy you.
