I'm going to be in a wedding in November 2008, the bride wants us to order our dresses next weekend, b/c she said it could take 4-6 months for alterations. Which I j/found out so I will have to hand over $155.00!!! I was curious on payment options and such so I called DB they said it has to be paid in full to order it. I talked to a friend who order a BM dress from there and she said she only had to pay 25% to order it. And I was also told by someone never to pay it in full until u receive it. I've never been in a wedding so this is all new to me. Which wl help for my own wedding. Does anyone have any input???

I know in some cases I would be uncomfortable paying in full for things before getting them. But this is common with alot of things in the wedding industry.
The good thing is that DB is a large national company. I would make sure to get a receipt and all the order details in writing.
Ordering several months in advance is fairly common too.
I don't know how much help I was, but good luck :)
I bought my wedding dress from DB. I put it on layawy, and when I did that, I wanted to make sure that I wouldn't get the floor model cause it had snags in it. They said once I paid my layaway off, they would order a new dress for me. I put it in layaway in the middle of August i think, and paid off in September, and the new dress arrived early October. You might want to ask about something like that. :)

I don't know about it taking that long for the dresses to come in but I ordered my wedding gown in the middle of January and I was told that it would be ready for pick-up April 14th and I got a call yesterday saying it was already in - it had only been 2 weeks. I do believe every location is different though - I would ask when you get there and have your dress picked out about what your options are - they only tell you so much over the phone, you get more details in person.
Did she buy her dress there? If so, you may be able to get $20 off your dress. I know where I went, they don't do the lay-a-way anymore - it's either you pay in full or apply for a David's Bridal (interest free for 12 months) credit card.

My BM's ordered their dresses thru David's Bridal...IMHO....It's a tad soon to order dresses but to each their own..
I do know when my girls ordered their dresses...the style ordered depends on how quick they get them in..My girls' dresses took 3 weeks but only certain styles ship that fast. The girls also had to pay in full for their bridesmaid dresses before they could be ordered...
I know this might be a huge leap but, if the wedding is in November you should allow 3-4 months to order. 4-6 weeks for alterations..The dresses if sized correctly should fit when they come all but the hem. Is it possible that you could ask the bride to be to hold up on ordering dresses to allow sometime for all of you to save money??? To be honest the earliest you should have to order your dresses would be March.

At mine, they did have to pay in full. Just give it time to be looked over and re-ordered in necessary too...
Even though you are in a group of girls, you have to order your dress separately. Just be honest with her and don't tell her what you found out, ask her to talk to David's about when to order dresses.
