My soon to be father in law has been a big part of my life for the past 12 years and I am very close to him. Sadly In the past year he has suffered from a stroke. He is amazingly strong willed and has been walking with the help of a walker. Although it's tradition to have my father walk me, I really want him to! I know he would be honored and it would also give him motivation to walk with out the walker. The problem I am having is finding the heart to discus this with my father. What do I do? :sorry:

Maybe you could have both men escort you.

I'm in the same boat, except for I want my grandfather to walk me down the aisle. I think what I'm going to do is have grandpa walk me as far as halfway down the aisle, then have dad take over from there.... Same with the first dance... Me and Grandpa the first half of the song, then dad can cut in halfway through. That way I don't have to feel bad for not including either one of them.

I wish you luck, this is a very tuff decision to make I know.

im sure your father would be hurt, but maybe he will also understand, just be honest and dont beat around the bush. this wont be an easy dessision no matter what you choose. good luck!

Would you be willing to do the halfway thing? Like have your dad walk you halfway and then when you get halfway down the aisle your ffil join you that way it should the two families coming together too. you could always explain it that way to your father..

OH, I just talked to a friend about this. She said that she's been to a wedding where the bride walked down the aisle with the one that wasn't the father, then the father met them at the END of the aisle, then at that time the clergy asked who gives her away, and they answered "we both do", and they walked her up to the altar (like 6 feet). I love that idea!!!!!

My cousin's father was no longer a part of her life when she got married, so she had both her little, and big brother walk her down the aisle...one on each arm. It was very touching!

I Love this idea too! I will have my father in-law walk me down the aisle to my father where he will be waiting next to my soon to be hubby and then I'll have him give me to my father so that he can give me away. THANK YOU SOOO MUCH!:D

I might be going with that idea as well... I might just walk alone, and have one on either side of the aisle when I get to the end of the aisle that way they both take my arm and give me away.. just another idea :D
