Last night we had a cold front come through and it brought some major wind!! At first, everybody has been saying it was straight like winds, but I just heard this afternoon that they did confirm a couple of tornado touch-downs! We don't often get actual tornados, maybe watches or whatever, but usually it just thudnerstorms. The scariest part was the one of the worst hit areas is a little section of town called St. Matthews, and a bunch of shops there got messed up really bad, and we were like 3 blocks from it! We were at my sisters choir concert at a church, and didn't even know what was going on...I'm so glad we are all okay, it could've been REALLY bad!! Here are some pictures from the damage, though

This is the damage done to a car from a roof of a nearby building

This is seriously 3 blocks from where we were. Look at the sign in the background! It's so twisted up!

This is a trampoline, or at least used to be. This isn't far from my house, maybe a mile or so, but our neighborhood hardly looks like it stormed! Luckily nobody was hurt here in Louisville, despite the warning sirens not going off, but 4 people were killed across the river in Indiana.

Whoaaaa! That is some damage!

I was talking Treasia today and they got it in GA last night as well.

We got the winds today .... and rain, and freezing rain, and flash freezing, and snow squalls. Now the temperature has dropped again and it's so cold.

Friday we are supposed to be getting 11 - 13" of snow! This is nuts.

I know I just heard there were 6 confrimed touch downs, which is insane b/c I've never heard of a case were nobody saw anything, so the weather people are surveying the damage to determine if there were torandos or not. And the temp dropped like 30 degree in 15 minutes or something crazy like that. It's just not right having tornados in January!

WOW.. That is really scary and sad for those who lost their lives. I think that picture that shocks me the most is the blue car wrapped in the trees...

That's too bad. We had some real bad wind yesterday. It was in the 50s I think in the morning, then schools were letting out early because there were blizzard warnings! It got down to close to 0 I think. What a temp difference! And in the morning it was raining too, good conditions for tornados.

This weather is for the birds. It has been so cold here lately (Chicago) I can't stand it. We are to get dumped on with about 12" of snow today/tonight. Uggh.

I live in Indy right down the road from where one of the tornadoes struck. There's an addition about a mile from us that had such bad winds that most of the homes were de-sided. My FH works for the fire department and they spent a good portion of yesterday cleaning up debris and dead birds. There's a big retention pond (aka lake around here) in the middle of the addition. DNR had to come out and pick up the birds, about 120 or so that had frozen or been thrown into houses. These aren't little birds either. These are canadian geese and ducks. A few of them actually either got stuck in the sides of the houses or one went through the house and landed on someone's bed! FH had to go out on the ice and pull the alive frozen, dead frozen, and otherwise dead ones from the ice. It was very sad. Some were just stuck in the ice and they could save them. It was a very bazaar night here. And tonight we're supposed to get 3-6 inches, also with ice. Man I love winter (JK!!!!!):kap:

One of my co-workers lives in Spearfish, SD and Sunday night the winds were clocked at 101 mph. Then on Monday they were having a blizzard with less than 1/4 mile visibility.

On Monday, here, it was 56 degrees at 3pm, then by 5, it was -1, with the wind blowing 50-60 mph. YUCK!!!

The high winds done much damage in Arkansas as well (like Elizabeth had said after talking to me). It blew bunches of shingles off of our roof. My parents had the roof took off their barn and storage buildings and it as well blew down two huge trees. Thankfully nothing happened to their house. The temps had been in the 70's that day and dropped to below 30 in a matter of a few hours. Much damages done to our town and surrounding towns and left us with no power for a few hours as well. All of Memphis, TN without power for several hours too. I also seen two overturned semi trucks on the overpasses.

Now we are having freezing rain and sleet. We are under a severe winter weather advisory.

The whole time the winds were blowing and the temps dropping I kept thinking of the movie "The day after tomorrow".

Ouch, and I thought the winds we had here the other night was bad(was bouncing around all day in my truck). I guess I'd rather have 50 below windchills then that damage.
