View Full Version : Odd Footwear Choice

I've gotten mixed responses regarding my choice for bridal footwear, so I was hoping to get some feedback from you folks here.
I want to wear fluffy white slippers with my wedding gown.
Sound strange?
See...I have weak ankles and am not terribly fond of regular formal shoes. I figure that I'll at least be comfortable, and that slippers won't really show under a long dress.
What do you think?

You can put a blue bow on them :)

I think you should wear whatever you're comfortable in and makes you happy.

My mom mentioned that one of her friends did this. It's your wedding so you should do what you want!

Works for me, I'm probably going to get some of those high-top canvas sneakers -- either in white or a really funky color combo, like black and white, something that I can wear again. Heck, I'm wearing a floor length dress -- with a train -- who's gonna see my shoes?
Besides, I'm getting married outdoors in June, and I don't want my heels to sink into the lawn . . . had that happen a couple times and it sucks (no pun intended!) every time.
I want to be comfy too! I know those canvas sneakers haven't got any support, but one or two Dr. Scholl's inserts ought to take care of that.

The brides here have worn it all .... flats, ballet shoes, flip flops .... slippers? Why not!

I would look for one with a leather (or smooth) sole so that they will be easier to dance in.
You could dress them up by gluing sequins or crystals on them or a satin bow or even a little feather "puff"
Something like this (minus the heal) -

Thanks all. Now I feel a little more comfortable with my choice! (you wouldn't believe some of the negatives I've gotten--namely from my mother) I never thought about decorating them before...but gluing crystals and sequins sounds like a great (and fun) idea!

Let her wear the 5" stilettos! :) Your feet are going to be hidden anyhow.

Yeah, and your mom can wear all the heels she wants to -- she doesn't have to stand in one place for a half hour during the ceremony! Or put them on an hour *before* you stand for a half hour in the ceremony . . .
I have some foot problems and I can't stand in one place for long, so we may have chairs in place for me (and maybe us) just so I don't have to stand all the time during the ceremony. Heels will only make the problem worse, and I really don't want to have sore feet on my wedding day. Hence the sneakers.
I know some people have no problems wearing heels all day, they love them and heels are comfortable. More power to them! I am not one of those people :)
Do whatever will keep you from being in pain on your wedding day, I say! You want to be able to enjoy it.

If no one can see your feet under your gown wear whatever is the most comfortable. Plus it can be something thats uniquie just to you. You don't have to the wear the traditional shoe, so I say GO FOR IT!

I think you should wear whatever you are most comfortable wearing. I think the fuzzy slippers would be adorable to wear myself.

I know of a couple of people who have worn slippers. Hey, you will be on your feet all day, you want to be comfy!
I wore heels for the ceremony, but come the reception my feet were killing me. I wish I would have brought slipper to wear. Instead I just kicked the shoes off all together.

I can understand the weak ankles.. Extremely flat feet, here!
I say, wear what will make you comfortable. :) No one is gunna be staring at your feet!

I just had surgery to correct ligament issues in my right ankle and will be wearing a brace for the rest of my life--so yeah--comfort is definitely key!
It's settled then. Fluffy slippers with my own decorative touch. I'll post a pic when I get them and dress 'em up! Thank you guys so much for the feedback! <hugs!>

I agree; it is your wedding and you are the one that has to be happy anc comfy :)
I think the slippers would be cute, and if you are wearing a typical long, floor length dress, then no one is really going to see them anyway ;)

slippers sounds sooo cute. See for me, thats not practical, im 4;9...i will have to endure amputation of my ankles if i have to just so that i dont look like my husbands kid sister on our wedding day :
(Tux shoes give him about an inch height which will make him over a foot taller so i went with three inch heels...) But hey---- im jealous :)

Do you have to wear the brace at the wedding?
Most likely, yes--especially since I'll be on my feet all day.
I'm only about an inch shorter than my FH (he's 5' 7.5", I'm 5' 6.5") so I was planning on something flat already. :)
