Anyone use kissing balls instead of the bo-ks? I am thinking of having them for my wedding. I wish I could find more crafty ideas how to make them and make them unique too.

In the same tradition as the Mistletoe, the Kissing Ball is hung from the doorway of the Reception venue, waiting for those to fall under its spell

I have never hear of kissing balls either. I searched around like l3vi did and I came up with this description:

"Kissing Balls are a Victorian-style holiday ornament used similarly to mistletoe. These would be hung in the home during the holiday season and a marrigable maiden would stand beneath one, hoping to be kissed by her future husband."

Seems to me they can be made of anything as long as its round. I found pictures of ornment styles ones as well as greenry types.

I found a few links that show how to make kissing balls. Here are the ones that I think would look good for a V-Day Wedding:

Real Ivy Kissing Ball (http://www.englishcreekgardens.com/how_to_plant_a_wedding_kissing_ball.htm)

Red Kissing Ball (http://www.hgtv.com/hgtv/dc_floral_arrangements/article/0,1793,HGTV_3418_1933027,00.html)

These two links show some nice looking wedding kissing ball ideas:
Large Kissing Ball Ideas (http://silks.artisticfloraldesign.com/bouquets.html)

Silk Rose Kissing Ball (http://onewed.ourweddingshop.com/estore/product.asp?dept%5Fid=259&pf%5Fid=MU1009)

Nice Idea! Much different then a traditional bouquet. :D

Also you can have BM or flower girls or all carry them. I figure it would be easier for kids to carry in my wedding. You can make them any way you want too. Should try and find more creative pics. I will do that after work.

I never heard of them either until I started to plan the wedding.

Yes. I am using a Kissing Ball or Pomander (the other name they go by) I made mine after seeing one made out of seashells. I really like the way it looks and it is something different. Some believe that a kissing ball is traditionally for flower girls or bridesmaids...but i have read that they are used for brides as well. Seeing as nothing in my wedding is traditional I made my Kissing ball all out of seashells and placed very small "filler" flowers in between some of the shells just to give it a little "pop" I also then dusted it with a little bit of glitter.
good luck

I would love to see a picture of it. It sounds beautiful!!! I have heard of flowergirls carrying these when they couldnt throw petals in the church.

Just a money saving tip - Wal Mart has the kissing balls for $4.00 each. I bought them for all of my Jr. Bridesmaids.

...you can have champagne taste with beer money!
