Hello all, I am new to this whole chat site thing, so forgive me if a similar thread already exists.
I am looking for some new and intersting touches to add to my wedding. My fiancee's brother as well as his sister are both getting married a couple months after us and my sister is getting married too and we want to do something that is unique.
I have read about people taking polaroids of guests and having them sign them, and photo slideshows during the reception, which are ideas I love, but they are already "taken" by my soon-to be bridezilla in-laws.
If you have any ideas that would add a nice touch to our reception, I would greatly appreciate it!
Hi,
Welcome to the boards! Do you have any ideas for your wedding? Maybe we can play off those first. What kind of things are the other to party's doing? Do you mean recption ideas (favours, centerpieces, colours)?

Well we are having a fall-themed wedding with carved pumpkin centerpieces and fall colors. I am looking for something along the lines of the slideshow idea or the polaroid idea. Something easy that guests will remember. It can be for the reception or ceremony.

Welcome to the boards. You have come to the right place for help.
When and where are you having your ceremony? Inside/outside? Colors? Im having mine in the evening next to a lake. We will be getting married with the sun setting over the lake. We have tried to do things different too, just because we have been married before and this is for "US". Also instead of the unity candle we are doing a sand ceremony instead, and we are including all of our children.
You might want to go to the journal forum and read through some. Becky is getting amrried in the fall, and so are a couple of more  I just cant remeber who! (Im sorry!)

Welcome to the boards! Congrats on your engagement and upcoming wedding!
I can't really think of anything along the lines of the polaroid thing that is really 'different' but, here are a few other ideas ...
- Have your guests play 'flower girl' ... You prepare little packages of rose petals and give them to each guest seated on the aisle side. You can even have a flower girl pass these packages out rather than scattering the petals themselves. Just before you come out the guests will toss the petals out in front of you. You will have to mention something about this in the programs so people will know what to expect and you can make up instructions on the packages too. (I saw this done once and it turned out really nice)
- Give out little blank cards to each guest and have them write well wishes and such on them and gather the notes after the wedding and make up a scrapbook keepsake.
- For your centerpieces you could have glass bowls with floating candles,

But then have goldfish or beta fish in the water, under the candles. It's something unusual and different and a great conversation piece.
- Keeping with the Fall theme ... you could have colored leaves and hay/straw strewn on the tables instead of rose petals.

- Give favors keeping with the season maybe as caramel apples wrapped in cellophane, or a DIY kit to make their own caramel apple ... the recipe with all the ingredients they’ll need - a perfect apple, some caramels, and a Popsicle stick. Marzipan fruit/candy is also a great fall wedding favor ... or maybe shapes of leaves and such.

You could do a photo collage instead of a slideshow. Or maybe get one of those photomats to have everyone sign. I've also seen a platter for everyone to sign, and then you get it glazed and fired, and you have a serving plate to put with your china!
I think that the pumpkin centerpiece is a very original idea. Maybe you can do a pumpkin, carved with your monogram, with a candle inside. Leaves scattered around the base. Or, one of my favorite place setting ideas:

I have tons of fall photo ideas. I am doing a nature theme. I think to make it unique play off your personal interests. We love the outdoors and are hiking up a mountain to get married so the nature theme is perfect for us.
Tell us a little more about what your likes and dislikes are and I am sure we can help you.

Now the polaroid idea that I saw was to put the camera on the guest table and have someone take the guests picture as couples or individuals and then put them in a special book and have them sign beside the picture.
Here is a link to polaroids website with some ideas:

I think I am going to grow these little pumpkins and use them for candle holders.

Oh my gosh, I love that last pumpkin with the monogram and leaves. I think we are just going to carve an M, instead of both our first initals. Where did you find that photo? I really want to use that pattern!
We are using electric candles because we are using artifical pumpkins, although they look SO real. We bought them after Halloween last year, REALLY cheap. And we are doing the caramel apple favors too, which I am VERY excited about. I found a great site that sells them seasonally and very reasonable priced.

I found the picture quite awhile ago. I don't think they sold patterns though. I think they would carve a pumpkin for you. It was expensive if I remember right. You could make your own pattern though.
Gather old family photos of past weddings and display them on a table or at each table with fall leaves/flowers. It will make it very personal.
