View Full Version : Candy for favors
Hi ya'll.
I have been shopping around looking for candy for my favors. Now, I really like the Jordan Almonds, but I don't want to spend $100 on candy, when I only need about 30 lbs.
Does anyone have any recommendations where I can find bulk, unwrapped candy that I can purchase by color? I want only my colors (Black, White and Periwinkle)... I'm interested in a chocolate (M&M type), or hard fruity candy.
Or??
Thanks!

I would suggest doing a forum search and digging around. I know a lot of gals are doing a "candy bar" favor type thing and there should be plenty of good links around as well as other advice :D!

jordanalmonds.com you can get them for 3.95/pound
and
nutsite.com you can get them for 3.75/pound but you have to buy at least 10 lbs.
I guess almost $4 per pound really isn't that bad when I think about it... but adding up 30 lbs sure adds up $$$ fast!!
thank you!

yes it sure does. By any chance do you know how many almonds you usually get in a pound?

I didn't do the math on Jordan almonds. I saw on the site it's about 100 almonds per pound... it depends on what type of almond you get.
So, it seems if I take a minute here and do the math... 100 almonds per lb, at 150 guests - I'm going to say about 25 almonds per guest... I'd need 37.5 lbs...
Guess I should get smaller favor baggies :D

You know if you wanted to save money you could do jordan almonds and another cheaper candy. Just make sure not to use a candy that will impact the flavor of the almond like chocolate or mint. If the other candy was in a different color that would be really cute.

Any suggestion on another candy to use? I kinda wanna stick to an unwrapped candy, but I'm open to suggestions!
Well what about the M & M's???
M&M's cost $50 per 5 lbs.... through the M&M website anyway

I'm drawing a blank on other candies. What's your colors and I will try to think of some good ones.

My colors are black, white and periwinkle (light blue/grayish). The hardest part is finding a black that is not licorice!

Thanks... I guess I could get a bunch of white ones, and just use minimal black and blue ones.

Hmmm...the only suggestion I have is maybe finding a candy store nearby, one that sells bulk and look there. I got my m&ms for fairly cheap, although I don't know exactly how much, and I didn't need a whole lot b/c my colors where pink and black and I bought a bunch after v-day and got them on sale. Any how, there is a candy shop where I live, that sells all kinds of candy by the pound and they had all the m&m colors so I just bought what I needed there. Honestly I can't think of anything other then jelly beans that would have different colors! And 30 lbs is a lot!! Good luck, if I think of anything I will let you know!

You know what be cute is gummi trucks, (instead of gummi bears) I wonder if anyone knows where to find them.
Garlic flavored Jelly Bellies.. my FH would SHOOT ME!! :)
I love the idea of gummy trucks.. or any truck candy. My FH and I were just talking, he and I agreed that a wrapped candy would not only cost less, I would need less of it, as I would only need about 3-4 pieces per person... So I'm goin to start lookin for any tire/truck shaped candies!!
Also, we're considering salt water taffy.. and yes, I do plan on going back to Old Sacramento, where they have about 8 candy stores, and check them out!
Thanks!

You can buy m&ms at walmart during easter and get the pastel colors. There are tons of sites that sell unwrapped candies in bulk....they are around here somewhere in the DIY section....I would hunt them down for you but I am in class..hehe:geek:
Thanks all. I talked with my FH yesterday, and I couldn't believe it, but he agreed on mints. I figured people are going to be drinking, and would need them :D
So, we're looking for mints... if we go with wrapped, we don't have to use as much candy.. I'm planning on ordering today. I'll letchya know what I get :D

This comment makes me laugh. People probably will need them after drinking. Or maybe the other guests won't care about the breath because they will be drinking too.

They do, and I could probably do belly flops for under $50... it's a good idea for sure!

I did a search for bulk candy and found some really awesome sites that have more candy than you can imagine on them!! Try it!
I've done that, the only problem is they are usually starting at $25 or more for a 5-10 lb bag... I'm pretty sure we're going to go with mints, probably life savers or buttermints. We will see.. after I get my tax return I'll probably focus on ordering the rest of the favors. Right now, just tryin to get my save the dates out.
