Hello there ladies,
I was looking online and came across this site that had all the details about changing your name after the wedding and it was FREE, so I wanted to share - http://www.angelfire.com/ma/dnsassoc/

Thats cool... I should look for a Canadian version. I'm hoping its not too hard to change my name for everything. I should be able to do with Mark when we go to change our address on everything.
I think i can still use the list they have posted there and just change it to the Canadian alternative.
Thanks for postin that :)

NP I thought it would be helpful ;)
I don't no anything about Canadian laws on the subject, so you are on your own there ;) Hey, Shawna is already married and she is in Canada, maybe she knows the "Canadian alternative"
:goodluck:

When we got married and it came to changing my name, I just contacted Every credit card company I had in my wallet. Went to the Pass port office and SIN office (which happened to be in the same building.) and changed 'em. The government still hasn't caught up (no surprise!!) and changed my name yet, and I think they would be the first to know considering the marriage certificate goes there directly from the Officiant!! But yeah, nothing special I just changed my name on them. Most companies wanted a copy of our marriage certificate faxed or mailed to them for proof and we were good to go!!

That is interesting Shawna ... I wonder, is SSI anything like Social Security here? I still haven't changed my name on my passport  but we don't have plans to travel anywhere any time soon, so I put that off.
When I got divorced from my ex and wanted to change my name back, I just changed it socially and with Social Security. The DMV wouldn't do it, (long story) so I ended up with like 3 aliases
After I got married this time I changed my drivers license before I changed anything else. Of course they wanted to see the marriage certificate and then I had to send it to the Social Security Office to get my name changed there. Everywhere else was just a matter of of phone call and/or a fax (also with ID and a copy of the marriage certificate)
:goodluck: ladies :D

Do you mean when I put SIN? Thats Social Insurance Number. Changing most things weren't hard. When I changed my passport, all they did was stick a little sticker in there with my new name. I found that ironic with heightened sercurity and all and they just stick a sticker in there...lmao...what the?????

Yeah, SIN opps  Sounds like the same as Social Security Number (SSN) here ;)
Yeah the sticker thing seems a little vague, I can make a sticker myself

SIN is our number that allows us to get a job, I'm not sure how SSN works for you. The same?? I don't know.
As far as the sticker *runs to find out for sure*...yup there's a sticker! lmao!
Oh and for those of you who are going on your honeymoon and need a passport! Do not change your picture I.D. and then try and change your passport! It takes two weeks or so, in Canada to get the passport back! SO leave your picture ID and passport in your maiden name at least until you get back from your honeymoon! You need them both to have the same names to even get out of the country!! (at least in Canada!!) And then, have a wicked @$$ honeymoon!! lol

Yeah I had to get a new passport for our honeymoon and it took a month! It is still in my maiden name since I wasn't going to have time to change my name before we went on the trip. A funny thing I experienced was at the customs, we had to fill out separate forms because we had separate last names even though we were traveling together and married.
I guess this is off topic stuff for this thread, but there is alot of rules you have to follow to travel out of the country ... maybe we should start a thread about that and passports and stuff?
