View Full Version : 2008 - A Year to Be Thin

So last weekend I weighed myself and found myself looking at a number I hated on the scale. Definitely my highest weight to date and I was stunned. I then vowed to only eat when I was hungry...which is a hard thing to do when your whole life you've eaten for entertainment.
I realized that on the weekends, I wake up about an hour later than I do on the weekdays and I'm not hungry until about 1:30 in the afternoon. So why is it that I continually eat breakfast in the morning before leaving for work and find myself hungery by 10:30am again?
So last week, I decided, no eating unless I was hungry. I found myself waking up in the morning, and I wasn't hungry. I decided, since I have an hour drive to work in the morning, that I would bring a breakfast bar with me to work, along with my lunch, just in case I got hungry later in the morning. I found myself, not hungry until around 1pm or so. Is this my brain telling me, you've been eating to much in the past and you really don't need to eat that much? I assumed so. But yet, the whole week I continued to bring that breakfast bar with me, just in case I got hungry. I never ate it.
All week, I went to lunch at my regular 2:30-3:30pm. On Monday and Wednesday, I decided, why sit and watch TV while I eat for an entire hour, make use out the time, go for a walk. Both days I completed over a mile long walk and still came back to about 20-25 minutes to eat my lunch I had brought with me.
Now this is another problem. I used to eat out lunch a lot, and yes, I have cut back on that a lot. But bringing my lunch with me hasn't helped all that much. I tend to bring too much food, and a lot of times I'm stuffed after eating but I don't want to leave the extra food at work, with the chance that I may forget about it the next morning and my food continually piles up in the refrigerator at work.
Along with the walking and eating, I started doing 80 scissor crunches a day...in the hopes to tighten my tummy and cut down on future stretch marks.
Now with all of this in the last week, I lost almost 5 pounds. I've been eating better foods; fresh veggies with low fat dip, whole grain crackers, low fat yogurt and fruit cups...but how do you keep that weight off and not fall off the bandwagon on the weekends? This seems to be my hardest problem.
I have now vowed to try my hardest to stick with it as close as possible on the weekends. I'm unhappy in my weight. I'm comfortable in how I look when clothed, mainly because I dress pretty well for my size, but with my clothes off, I'm unhappy. I feel unattractive. I don't want to be a twig, but I want to be thinner than I am. I know, with my body chemistry, I'll never been that twig that you see in the magazines, but at least to be closer to a healthy weight for my height than I am now. I have people who are willing to support me through my weight loss efforts, but it still makes it so hard to change habits you've had for the last 15 years of your life....but I'm willing to make that change. I realize I'll have my bad days and my great days....and I need to not beat myself down so much for the bad days, which in return makes me completely give up.
My biggest kicker is for me to see the change in my body. I always feel I look the same, even when I was at my lightest weight, I never realized I was as thin as I was until years later looking back at pictures. So now, every Sunday, I will be taking a picture of myself so I can look back and compare my starting to my current and how much my body has changed to try and keep me motivated. Its not always the number on the scale....with walking and doing crunches I will be building muscle as well as losing fat....I need to keep that in the back of my mind.
These pictures will be for myself to view and I will not be posting them up here until I'm to my goal weight. The numbers don't matter to anyone but myself and the goals are my own business, but I will still be posting progress, whether good or bad, to try and keep myself on the right track.

To Date: 4 lbs lost
I weighed myself this morning....I almost had a heartattack. This weekend hadn't been very good with eating, and I decided I need to cut back what I ate today. Alex and my breakfast consisted of water and a mile and a half walk with Hahn down the trail behind the apartment. My lunch was fresh carrots, celery, broccoli and califlower with low fat salad dressing and water. Later this evening we plan to grill out.
Good for you! I too have been finding myself eating when I am bored. I try and bring a couple of apples to work everyday and oatmeal. I try REALLY hard not to eat food from the vending machine, but sometime those darn pop tarts call my name. My office is right next to the lunch room and someone always brings either dounuts or bagels in. I could do without the dounuts, but bagles and cream cheese is my fave. I have been trying to do sit up at night before bed, and when the coffee is brewing in the morning. (I do them on my yoga ball) But, I would like to tone up my arms and legs as well.

Today I didn't eat much until about 5pm. I went back home to visit my mom for her birthday and I only had a handful of reduced fat Pringles and a soda until my dad went to get dinner. My dinner wasn't the greatest for me, but since I hadn't eaten much in the day, I guess it would be ok.

COngrats to you on your progress. I don't know if these things will help but it may...it is typically better to eat a few small meals during the day. If you do that your matabolism is always running . If you only eat once or twice your body tends to store everything you eat, (like survival mode). I'm not sure what you were eating for breakfast before but oatmeal is great because it is a meal and it cleans out your GI tract. But of course do what works for you.
Also it may help in your progress to keep measurements with your pictures. You could do measurements of your bust, waist, hips, around each arm, and theigh. Typically these measurements will change more than weight. You are so smart about not worrying about the numbers on the scale, but numbers on a tape measure may be a good way to track your progress too. Anyhow, congrats again on your progress and good luck!:D:D:D

I've been doing alright with things this week. Its been making it hard because we have diligently been working on trying to find a house to move into...so its been keeping me busy....hopefully we will find a house and things will calm down a bit and I can really focus on losing weight.
I hope that you are able to put more time and energy into your weight loss soon. I know that the house hunting is really stressing you out. Good luck with both.

I told Alex that after we moved I was going hard at trying to lose weight. But then I got on the scale and said "....yep better start tomorrow." I will have a bit of support at work. A lady I work with, Mel, is trying to get healthier...not necessarily lose weight, but bring down her fasting glucose because its running rather high. So I'm going to tell her on Monday morning that I want her to draw me so I can run a few things on myself and see where I stand and tell her that we are now doing this together.
My plan, all I can have for breakfast is an Atkins Advantage shake. I usually don't eat breakfast and every once in a while now I take a Slim Fast shake with me on the drive to work. Now I know on the Slim Fast deal you are supposed to have a shake for breakfast and lunch and a healthy dinner....I know a shake isn't going to do it for me for lunch, so I decided that for lunch I would only have a SmartOne/Lean Cuisiene meal (which is usually what I eat, but with other stuff too....not good). I have have fresh veggies with lowfat dip as a snack if I need to. Then for dinner whatever I make at home. After we move we will be eating at home a lot because we will be living in the boonies so we will probably only go out to eat once a week and thats when we go into town to do our errands and such.
One of our bedrooms upstairs is going to be devoted 100% to workout equipment and such. And with moving, I have to leave for work a half hour later. So I'm going to make myself get up at the same time I do now and work out for that time. Whether its a workout DVD, using the elliptical, do situps with free weights....something. And maybe I can talk Alex into starting to go for a walk after dinner every night since we will be home a half hour earlier from work too......we'll see....it will be good for him and for the dog! :D

Its official. Alex is now trying to lose weight with me. We decided to set goals for ourselves. We both want to lose around 50 lbs. And our big reward once we meet that goal, new motorcycles for both of us! :D We are hoping around next summer to be down to that, or close to it so we can get motorcycles to ride next year....so we'll hope.
Alex is doing the same diet deal as me. In the morning he is going to take a protein breakfast bar with him to work. Then for lunch hes going to have a SmartOnes frozen meal and then dinner, whatever I make...but our portion sizes are going to be MUCH smaller than they have been. Currently, Alex doesn't eat anything until dinner and then gorges himself in food then...which is not healthy at all. He weighed himself this morning and almost died and decided he was going to try and lose weight with me. We are also going to quit having snacky food around the house and no more ice cream in the house. If we really want to have ice cream after we move, we have to WALK to the gas station and buy the little individual sized ones. Even if we want ice cream in the dead of winter...we have to WALK! And no more appetizers when we eat out. We are getting pretty strict on this diet, but we have to... because we are both getting to a number on the scale that neither of us ever wanted to see for ourselves. He also agreed to going for a walk every night after dinner with the dog as well...so that will begin to help.

Thank you. I know that this is going to be really hard for Alex....mainly because hes used to eating big portions and only eating one meal a day. But don't get me wrong...its going to be really hard for me too....because I'm a snacker.
I am a snacker too. At work I am really bad, always donuts or bagels, not to mention my 3:00 sugar low, and that is when I hit the vending machine for a candy bar. I grew up having the chips, cookies and junk food in the house, so when I got older and started to grocery shop, I too started buying the chips, cookies and junk food. I guess because it didn't feel right if I didn't get those aisles. Doug has NO sweet tooth at all. I crave the sugar. Though, I have been trying not to drink alot of pop. I switched to the Crystal Light To-go's, they only have 5 calories per serving unlike pop! Have you tried them?
katieandalex
06-17-2007, 11:30 AM
Yeah I have a ton of those Crystal Light things. I just have a hard time finding a flavor that I can actually stand drinking the whole bottle. And the kinds I do like, they don't make in the To-Gos (at least not in my town) they only make them in the ones to make a big jug of it.

After completing our first day together, and my 2nd day....I've gained 2 pounds and Alex has lost 5 lbs. How the hell does that work? I'm just hoping it was a fluke and that it really has helped next Sunday.

Just remember that men gain/loose weight in different ways! So Alexs 5 is differnet then you loosing weight. Women have a VERY hard time loosing weight.
But I am proud of you! Good luck and what a great prize at the end!!!!

OMG Katie...I thought for sure, when I read your title about become a "lighter" couple, that there was the "D" word in order...My heart dropped!!!
But I'm glad to hear that it's just about weight loss
phew!!!
Congratulations to both you and alex starting your journey to weight loss. Jon and I just joined weightwatchers in Saturday. Yesterday we went to a cookout and it was sooo hard!! But we were able to walk away from the food. I wieghed in at my all time highest. I'll share my weight with you ladies as soon as I start loosing some. I'm a little embarrassed.
ooopps. Look at my highjacking your thread...where are my manners...LOL
Sorry, Yay for you!!!

Thanks Katy! Yeah I have to keep reminding myself of that....but so far, so good.
Thanks! That was our problem....we were both pushing close to marks that we didn't like and we decided we needed to do something about it. We are hoping that it will be easier once we move because we definitely wont' be eating out as much because there is pretty much no places to go out to eat at in our new town.
Yesterday I had a breakfast bar for breakfast, a mini-bag of popcorn for lunch, chicken noodles that I made for dinner and then (I know I shouldn't have) but Alex said he was so hungery, so we had some popcorn later as we were watching a movie.
Today I had a Slim-Fast shake for breakfast. Lunch I had a SmartOnes meal. Dinner, I think I'm going to make tacos...which will be a hard one for me, but I've been SO hungery for them. I sent Alex to work today with a breakfast bar and a SmartOnes meal as well.
So we've been doing well....its just hard to get started....Alex was all gung-ho about going and working out yesterday and blah blah blah...and I told him, "We are not doing that because we will get burned out in the first week if we change so much at once and then we will get sick of it and give up." So I told him right now we are just going to change our eating habits and once we get used to that a bit, hopefully right after we move or around there, then we will start going for walks together and doing more workouts and such. I just get burned out easily if I really bare down....so I want to take it slow, especially since we are doing it together.
I'll share my weight after I start losing as well....I'm not too proud of the number.

Things are going well. Alex has been sticking to the plan as have I. I've been weighing myself everyday...which I know I shouldn't. I don't think Alex has weighed himself. But Sunday is our weigh in day...so I'm hoping that it turns out good.
Yesterday on my lunch it wasn't too bad outside, so I decided to go take a walk around the parking lot. I walked for 25 minutes...I was so hot when I came back in...but hey, it was good for me. I have no idea how long of a walk it ended up being....but at least it was better than sitting in front of the TV on my lunch.

Last night we didn't do so good. Alex wanted to take me out to a nice dinner for my brithday since the dinner we had on my birthday was good enough he said (though its where I wanted to go). So we went and had a big fancy meal. I only at half of my food and I was stuffed. But I also had soup with it...and bread.....and mini-cinnamon rolls....not good stuff. But it was a for a good reason. But I have noticed that I pay more attention to when I'm full or getting full and stop. Throughout the week, I have been comfortable...not overly stuffed and not really hungery either. The beginning of the week I was hungry but not really anymore...so thats a good sign.
I decided I was going to buy another yoga mat and take it to work with me so I can do crunches and such on my lunch break. We don't have carpet in the breakroom, so thats why I want a yoga mat. So I can eat lunch, and do crunches while I watch my judge shows and then go out and take a walk like I've been doing the last couple days.
That sounds like a wonderful idea to bring the yoga mat with you. You gotta maximize the time you have and make it work for you...double duty lunch break! Good game plan.
Don't feel bad about the dinner. Ya gotta celebrate now and then!

Well, I ended up losing 2 lbs. At least its better than nothing. But I think I'm going to have a hard time doing my walks this week because some how I hurt my ankle yesterday. I have no idea how I did it or when, but now it just kills and I can barely move it. Right now I'm wishing I had my ankle brace from dancing....boo. But I can still do crunches and such. And I'm sure moving next weekend will help out a lot.
And with losing 2 lbs....not too shabby because I ate out 3 times last week....BAD! On my birthday, on Friday and on Saturday because my mom came down. Oh well, next week will be better.
Two pound is awesome. Way to go! Sorry about your ankle though. That really sucks.

Our prize at the end is no longer new motorcycles. Alex is done with riding and he isn't going to teach me....at least for a long time.
Today he was driving to work (keep in mind on a borrowed motorcycle) and some old lady in a Cadillac pulled out in front of him. He swerved, hit some sand and took it over....of course Alex wasn't very smart and since he was on a borrowed motorcycle, he was trying to save the bike more than himself...so his leg got pretty scrapped up as well as his one arm. The bike has a bit of damage on it.....but Alex called and said "Can you bring me a new work shirt and pants to Evan's house?" And then went into the story...I knew something like this was going to happen. So Alex is done riding...at least for a while....
So our new incentive is every pound we lose, we get $5....every week we get our money every week. If the next week we gain the weight back, we don't get any money and whatever you gained back gets deducted from our next paid-out. We can spend the money on whatever we want....since we both want to lose about 50 lbs, we should have $250 by the end of it all for whatever we want.

Good for you! This seems to be the year for a lot of people to change to a healthier lifestyle.
My FH and I have also started diet & workout plans. It's so much easier when you've got someone doing it with you.
Here's a couple of ideas that we do that might help you: in an earlier post you felt guilty about tacos? Next time make them with lean ground turkey or with chopped chicken breasts. I can't tell the difference after you get all the seasonings on the meat whether it's beef or turkey anyways. :p ... ... also, look for the low fat ice cream products, or sugar free. If you don't give yourself a treat every once in awhile, you'll break psychologically. I bought some "Skinny Cow" ice cream awhile ago, and it didn't even taste bland like some low fat ice creams do. All the flavor and none of the guilt! WooHoo! ... watch out for potatoes, corn, peas, beets, etc. They may be vegetables, but they have a lot of natural sugars in them.
OK, I'll stop lecturing now :p I've just really gotten into this health stuff (which I never thought I would)

The problem is finding stuff thats good to eat that my husband will eat as well. He will only eat beef tacos...and I'm not about to make 2 different kinds of meat for a meal. And the only veggie he'll eat is potatoes and corn. I'll eat almost any kind of veggie, so it doesn't matter for me......but he is just so picky.
He sounds JUST like Chad when we first got together. Now I'm pickier than he is! What is it with guys and beef & potatoes? lol What kind of beef do you use? When the little girl that I babysit for had high cholesterol they switched over to super lean beef. Maybe you could try that if you haven't already.

The ground beef I usually buy is either 80/20 or 93/7...just all depends on my mood.
My mom said that Alex really isn't as picky as he used to be. She pointed out that when we first started dating Alex would only eat a plain hamburger with cheese....now hes getting out of the box and if offered, he orders it with BBQ sauce. There are some things that I've made for dinner that I was afraid to tell him what it was, but he tried it and liked it...so that surprised me. But I think his parents had no idea how to cook so he remembers really bad meals with them when he was younger and won't eat those things....when really they just probably weren't prepared properly.

Yeah that's what Chad's problem used to be. His mom was not a good cook so he supposedly hated things until I got him to try them again. It really frustrates me how bad schools cook vegetables because kids don't like them and then they don't think that they like that kind of vegetable at all after that. That's always been a struggle when teaching children's nutrition classes.

Back to the weightloss. I think Alex has fallen off the bandwagon a bit. Hes still trying, but not as much as he used to.....mainly because of the motorcycle thing...it bummed him out.
But I'm back onto it. Especially after a comment one of our friends made. He wasn't trying to be mean about it, and its true. But he came to the house and saw one of my senior pictures on the fridge and he said "Is that when you guys met?" And I'm like "Like a year and a half after we were dating." And hes like "****, you were hot! We'll you're still hot now, but much better then." It just screamed to me, "Ok, you need to do something." And last night I watched Extreme Makeover with this lady that lost 100 lbs in a year. She said, "Anyone who says they can't lose weight isn't trying hard enough." It was kind of inspirational to me.
So this morning, I got up early (which I plan to start doing on a daily basis) and did some toning stuff. I did 100 crunches on my balance ball, 100 crunches with my thigh master and a total of 40 (4 sets of 10 reps) on 2 different upper body free weights. Today at my lunch I plan to go for a walk as well. Its just time to buckle down and get to this.

Well, I didn't do a walk today. I went out and did one loop and it was WAY too hot/humid to be out there. So I came inside and got out my yoga mat and did 150 crunches in the breakroom! LOL!
Today for food, I had 1188 calories and 41.5 g fat. I need to try to cut down on the fat grams...but calories, I think I did fairly well with today.
When I watched Extreme Makeover, they suggested that you "Self Monitor" by writing down everything that you eat. They said people tend to do better at weight loss if they self monitor. So I'm going to start doing that again.
You did great on your calories. Around 1200 is perfect for maximum weight loss and optimum metabolism. As long as you feel adequately full, that is. Your fat calories was around 31% of your calorie intake for the day. That's actually not too shabby. It's suggested to try to stay under 30% so you're almost there. Keep up the good work!

Thanks for the info. Yeah I didn't feel hungry...a little hungry in the morning, but not too bad. I've been switching to drinking water during the day. I was up to 2 cans of pop a day at work, and I drank 2 bottles of water and soda at work today. And then with my dinner I had another soda (I usually had like 4 total throughout the day) and another bottle of water now. So I'm trying to switch to water more now....hopefully that will help....but going to the bathroom like 20 times a day at work....that gets annoying.
Haha! Yeah I drink much more water now than I used to. Sometimes I don't have time to run by the bathroom inbetween back to back classes. Ohhh I know how you feel!

Well today, I did pretty well....my fat was a little high again....but my calories were good.
100 crunches on balance ball
100 crunches on thigh master
4 sets of 10 reps of 2 free weights, each
1215 calories & 32 grams of fat
150 crunches later in the evening.

I feel I did rather well today.
150 crunches on balance ball
100 crunches on thigh master
4 sets of 10 reps of 2 free weights, each
1207 calories & 35 grams of fat
My fat was still pretty high, but it was because of what I made for dinner. Cream cheese doesn't fair so well fat-wise. But the rest of the day I think I did really well. I've been drinking more water. I've only been having 1-2 cans of soda a day the past few days and I've been getting into drinking Crystal Light more. But now I have headaches more often (I get that from Crystal Light) but I guess I'll just have to take some more ibuprofen to keep me going.
I didn't get out on a walk today on my lunch because I had to run a few errands, but I'll try and get down to do some more crunches tonight as I'm watching Big Brother.

Didn't do so well yesterday. I quit counting calories after lunch. I was just really craving a Snickers and I gave in. And then 2 friends came over and we grilled out....and it was just a bad day overall. I did do my workout in the morning though, so that was at least helpful. I had to weigh myself this morning to see what the damage was, and I had actually lost some weight since my originl weigh-in, but it doesn't count until my weight in on Tuesday.
But I figure since yesteday was a bad day, that today I will try and limit myself a little more. And I'm planning on washing 2 cars and doing a lot of yard work today, so hopefully that will help sicne I'm running out the door and didn't have time to do my workout this morning, maybe later today though.

Today I did well on my eating. I haven't eaten dinner yet, but what I'm planning on making, I should be under my 1200 calories and it looks as though my fat grams will be better too. I'll post the total up later.
But I didn't workout this morning. We went to bed later than normal last night and I was SO tired I couldn't pull myself out of bed. :( Then I couldn't walk on my lunch because it was pouring down rain. Tomorrow will be better for exercise....but tomorrow is weigh in day!

Today was really good! 1150 calories and 20 grams of fat! Not too shabby. And that extra 50 calories that I didn't eat, makes up for not working out this morning to some extent. Now lets hope that the scale shows it.....and I need to remember to take my weekly picture too tomorrow...

Lost 1 pound this week. I'm excited for losing it, but I wish I could have lost more. But I've always heard losing 1-2 pounds a week is the healthy way to lose.

1068 calories
42 grams of fat
The last 2 days I haven't worked out. I've been SO dead tired....I just really need to get back on it, but really I need to start going to bed at our regular time too...thats whats getting to me.

I weighed myself this morning...I just couldn't help myself. And I had lost another 0.6 pounds! So lets hope I keep that off through Tuesday and maybe loose a bit more! But its helpful to keep seeing the numbers go down....even though slowly, it does help.

Didn't do so hot this weekend, so today is going to be a hard day of playing makeup. I'm definitely going to have to workout on my lunch. I just can't seem to get myself out of bed in the morning to do it...so I either need to start on my lunch hour or for sure at night.

Just realized that I forgot to take a picture last week and this week...and I forgot to weigh in today....I'll have to try and remember tomorrow.
I feel like I've lost a bit of inches. When I look in our full-length mirror, it just seems as though right under my bust seems smaller and my shirts fit me a bit better....so I guess tahts a good thing.

Not too bad....but I didn't workout yet. So I'll have to try and do some crunches during Big Brother tonight.

Wow...I just scrolled through glancing at stuff on here...and I've noticed that my fat grams has actually gone down quite a bit since I started. I was concerned that my fat grams were still too high (which I do think they are) but its a definite improvement from where I was.
But this weekend is going to be bad! Tonight we are leaving and we are going to have to grab somethign on the road and then going to a wedding tomorrow, where I'm sure the food won't be the greatest for us and then Sunday we will have to grab food on the road again......but its all for a good cause.

Tomorrow is weigh-in day. Not sure if I'm going to like it or not. We'll see how it turns out....I haven't weighed myself for a few days now, and I didn't do so great eating this weekend due to going out of town and to a wedding...

I fell off the train over the weekend....so I haven't weighed in because I know its going to be bad and I don't want to get myself down. But the last few days have been better. I did drink a lot of soda yesterday at work, which didn't help, but other than that, I've been doing good with getting back on it. I haven't been working out at much, mainly due to the fact that 1) we've been going to bed super late lately so I can't roll out of bed in the morning, 2) its WAY too hot to go for a walk on my lunch break and be drenched when I get back in and 3) I've been running a lot of errands on my lunch breaks lately that I haven't had time to walk or do crunches on my break. Eventually I'll get back into it, but we've been doing a lot at the house the last week or so, so its kept me busy.
Alex has still be working on it a bit. Hes still eating his normal meals like I put him on before. He has a protein bar and water for breakfast and then he has a frozen diet meal for lunch and eats dinner with me. He hasnt' been working out, I don't think, and hes still be drinking a lot of soda, but he hasn't told me if hes lost any weight or even weighed in or not lately.

Congrats to the beginning of a new couple. My fiance and I are doing the same I am doing Weight Watchers and he is following. I was on it this past spring and lost 20lbs, due to summer and work schedule I had to stop going. I put on 5lbs since June, but eas surprise that I lost 20lbs in 2.5mths. Just one word of advice... if you are craving something that isn't on your diet, don't deprive yourself, have it but in moderation. Good luck and keep it up...

So, I know I've tried this SO many times....and I know everytime I say I really want this, and I do...but I just get distracted with either getting sick, personal stuff coming up, money problems, etc, etc, etc....and I lose ground in what I was working so hard on.
This time, I don't know if Alex will be working with me or not, but when I go back to college, I want to be on the dance team...and I don't think I'll make the dance team at the weight I'm at currently....so I need to lose. And after weighing myself this morning and seeing that number on the scale, it scares me.
With help from my sister, she's been sending me these more healthy recipes. I have a terrible sweet tooth lately and shes doing a good job of sending me recipes that are only 80 calories for a square of apple crisp thats really yummy. So I've decided, screw it...I'm going back on Weight Watchers. I still have all of the stuff from last time and last time I went at it hard, I ended up losing 15 pounds in 2 months or so.
So I got on the Weight Watchers website and pulled off some graet recipes and I'm going to start making healthier meals. I also told Alex that we need to cut back on the eating out....and the big one is cutting back on the soda. 1 can of soda on WW is 6 points! I usually drink like 4 sodas a day, which means that over my alloted points for the day!
Seems like WW is going to get you back on track. I didn't realize how many points soda had in it. Goodness. Good luck!

I've been gone from this site for a while, but I need a support system for my weight loss efforts. I'm getting to the point where I tend to drop out of my routine and give up...but I really want to stay into doing this.
My new years resolution was to lose weight...the same one I've had for years. But this year I have a reason, my family and I are taking a big vacation somewhere at the end of October...and I don't want to be the weight I am now in case we end up going somewhere with a beach or something. I want to look nice in the pictures and be comfortable in my skin. And with seeing the season finale of Biggest Loser at the end of 2007, it really got my thinking..."Why the hell am I not doing this too?" So with Biggest Loser-Couples on right now, its a bit of motivation.
Since the first of the year, I've been trying to lose weight. I've been eating better...actually eating something for breakfast, a mid-morning snack of a 100-calorie pack (because I eat lunch late in the day), a healthy lunch of usually soup, and then whatever I make for dinner. I've been trying to cook healthier dinners and include salad into our dinner as well. I've cut out soda for the most part and I've been drinking more water than I have in my entire life! On my lunch hour, I've been taking half of it to go to the basement of the building I work in and walk...and I hope by the time it starts warming up I can start jogging outside. I've also been incorporating the new Biggest Loser "Cardio Max" and "Power Sculpt" DVDs into my nightly routine usually about 4-5 days a week...so thats an additional 30 minutes of exercise.
Now for the perk of this whole thing...Since January 1st, I've lost 7.2 pounds! Thats really exciting for me. My goal for January was to lose 13.8 pounds. So I'm half way there.
Now that down side, I've been craving bad things like crazy. This weekend I'm visiting my sister which means eating out and snacking. The 2nd weekend in February I have a wedding to go to...which means bad things as well. I get frustrated when I am doing so well and then something comes up and eating out or what not is pretty much required, and then I put so much weight back on...I just hate the constant battle and I end up giving up completely.
So I'm here. I have a online blog that I post on....but only really my sister and mom know the address...and they don't usually post on it (just call to congratulate) so its not so good. I just need a support system where I can vent when I have a bad day and get a "Yay good job" when I've lost weight. My DH doesn't tend to be so great and wants to eat out all the time..which makes it hard for me, so I can't turn to him. Hes supportive in me losing weight, but doesn't really help the matter all that much.
Anyone willing to go with me on this one?

Katie, we missed you around here..I'm glad you decided to join us!!! Congrats on the 7 lbs!! I would love to join you but I'm having such problems losing..I've been gaining weight since our wedding and I thought it was happy fat..I found out yesterday it's my thyroid!!! Right now until I get this treated I won't see any pounds shedding anytime soon...Congrats to you and I'll post and support you along the way though!

Looks like you're starting off the year with a bang! Great job!
Ryan and I used to eat out a lot and that's a hard habit to break because it's so convenient. If you are looking for something different every once in a while I've got a few chicken recipes that Ryan loves and they are really easy.

Jonelle: I've been worried that I may have a thyroid problem too. Its very common. I'm going to be having a physical soon, and I'm going to ask to get my thyroid tested just because I'm concerned about it. Since we got married, I've gained 30 pounds....
firespirit: Yeah I've been trying out new recipes a lot more lately....I like recipes that don't use off the wall items in them. My sister tends to send me recipes that use all of these weird ingredients and I don't want to have to run out and get new things just for one recipe.

Hmm I suppose it depends on what you keep around the house. A really easy one I learned from my stepmom is dill chicken.
Saute small chicken breasts in a medium to large frying pan until it's brown on both sides (you can use butter margarine or some other oil, and you don't need a lot). In a large measuring cup (or something) mix 2 packets of chicken gravy with 2 cups of water and 1 Tablespoon of dill weed (stir well, a whisk works great). Pour mixture into frying pan cover and simmer for 25-30 minutes (add water if sauce becomes too thick).
I usually serve this over some type of rice but that's not really necessary.

It sounds similar to what I'm trying to do too. A friend of mine told me about this so i've been trying but it's been difficult at times. I just started not too long ago so I doubt if I've lost any weight but i'm trying to at least loose 10-15lbs.
In the summer with the jogging I managed to loose 5lbs but then i ended up gaining everything and more back.
So now I've been trying this:
For breakfast eating cereal (the one with the K), and yogurt. Then I have with me at work the 100 calorie pack snacks to snack on when I get hungry. Then for lunch I have been bringing things like salad, soup, or a lean cuisine or healthy choice. Then for dinner I've been trying to eat a little more healthier meaning more chicken.
I know i need to put in an exercise regimine somewhere but it's been really hard.
