Renting a wedding dress?

I was just wondering if anyone has had any experience renting a wedding dress? I am considering it and was wondering how it works and/or where the best place to rent is?
Also, I'm planning a destination wedding in San Diego, CA and was wondering if it's better to rent out there or locally?
