Hiya, ive loved reading through all your threads and journals, it's made me all excited so thought id join in - hope yah don't mind. Jamie and i are from Wales (UK) and we met through an old chat room called 'Wales chat'. This chat room used to have regular 'meets' and i often went and one day Jamie came along, by then i was going through a really bad split from my partner of 23 years and we got chatting. We became really good friends and neither of us were looking for or wanted anything other than that, hes younger than me so i guess i kinda felt safe as i didn't think he'd be interested in me anyway. Well one thing led to another and i moved in with him Christmas 2003, i have started a degree course in University and life has really turned around for me. This year for Christmas we decided to book a small converted barn and disappear for the week to the wilds of West Wales. We got there on Dec 22nd and the cottage turned out to be everything we wanted and more, we had a fabulous couple of days and went to Christmas eve mass at St Davids cathedral. After opening our prezzies the following morning Jamie disappeared and then gave me another one, when i opened it it was an engagement ring - i cried for 10mins (which hes since said was a bit unnerving for him lol) he then asked whether that meant a yes or a no! That day was one of the happiest i have ever spent - how we manged to cook our traditional Christmas lunch i dont know 'cos i was floating somewhere all day long. We telephoned home to let close family know and spent the rest of our time there on our own, walking the coastal paths and generally being very happy. Although i am 42 i have not been married before (didnt see the point) yet my perspective on so much has changed now.

We spent a week in Innsbruck, Austria in Feb last year while Jamie was presenting at a conference there and we fell in love with the place so we thought this would be a good place to go for our wedding. We found a wedding planner out there this is the website http://members.aon.at/creativhochzeit/ehtml/package_innsbruck.htm although we are changing a few things that the outline of our package. We started off with just Jamies parents and his sis, and my brother and his family coming but we are now looking at 15 guests being out there with us (not sure how that happened).
We are then going to have a big party when we come back when we will wear our wedding clothes etc for those that will not be with us in Austria. At the moment im thinking of a red dress with an ivory faux fur jacket/cape, and then my niece who will be flower girl can have a dress int he ivory.
So far i have not told any of the family/friends of my ideas for colours as otherwise everyone there will know what im wearing etc and i don't want that. Jamie and i will be spending the night b4 and after the wedding in a separate hotel to the others, i have no problem with him seeing me before the wedding, it's not as if everything else had been done traditionally and its what we want, so we will just arrive at the 'Golden roof' together on horse and carriage.
Hope ive not bored you too much it's nice to be able to 'chat' about it lol my heads feeling wedded out already and im meant to be doing assignments!!

My fiance and I thought about a wedding abroad too but most of my family and friends won't travel at all. So we ended up with something more traditional. I can't wait to hear more about your big day. It's Feb 2007 - provisionally the 16th but my best friends first grandchild is due this feb and i dont want us being away for it's first birthday, so though we have booked the wedding planner etc we are not having a certain date til baby's arrival!! Austria law works in sucha way that we cant book the ceremony until 6mths before anyway. Didn't realise the dress link worked - i thought red would be nice in the snow with a nice fur jacket to cuddle up in.
We decided on abroad as neither of us have a large immediate family, so we thought it would b nice for it to just be those closest to us but we didn't want a beach wedding so opted for snow. Of course we get the big reception when we get back for everyone else which is causing a headache already, as we cant decide on venue we have narrowed it down to 2 so it's a start lol

Anyway i found a cake which i love and would like someone elses opinion besides my own and Jamies, Im not telling anyone else much about our plans as im going to try and keep as much secret as possible until the day (ie colours etc) doubt i will manage it tho!! If this works then there is a pic of it but im going to make it with red and ivory boxes rather than the black.
I also bought this cape from ebay for my flower girl, and this necklace for myself though im going to wait until i can try it on with a dress before i decide whether i will definately wear it! i couldnt believe how fast they were delivered!

We are all excited now 'cos we went last night to have a look at a place for our reception here in Wales and loved it so we are not going to look at our other choice! It was fabulous, thought they might be a bit stuck up (and i cant be doing with that lol) but they were really nice so we are booking it. We also get a night free in the hotel for ourselves so that will be much easier for dressing etc - anyways this is it if any of u wanna look, its so typically Welsh 'cos of the coal mine etc and will make for some wonderful pics! http://www.heritageparkhotel.co.uk/

Well we are signing our contract with the wedding planner in Austria today, and transfering a deposit over to her so i guess theres no going back now!!! Are also going to go up to our recpetion for the Uk and pay their deposit and god it feels good! think we now need to go out and celebrate ;)

We are stuck lol as we are going away for our wedding and then having a big reception when we come back we don't know what to do about photographers! I'd like to have one out in Austria to have us actually on the day and in the snow etc etc but id also like one back home here but i think it's a bit silly to have both! I was wondering about the cape that you bought for your flower girl. My wedding is in December and I might need something like that to throw over my shoulders when I go outside. I say might because you never know about Texas weather. One year in December we have ice, the next you can wear shorts. Did you happen to see any capes like that in adults sizes. It is so cute! Well ive been trying to stay patient until my exams are over so i can concentrate on them but ive given in and bought my wedding dress last night!! I was looking online on Weds and found it and fell in love with it it was exactly what i wanted but i held out until last night and gave in lol Only thing is that its mail order so i hope i like it when it arrives (and that it even arrives)!! Thanx, the bracelet is gorgeous and was real cheap, and i seen the shoes and they seemed perfect (i wasnt even looking for wedding shoes) i didnt want silk/satin ones 'cos of the snow marking them, so these fit the bill nicely.

Well i've finally got time to update things lol Austria was lovely all green, though i still prefer all that snow 'cos its so different to what im used to! Sorted things out with the wedding planner (who was lovely) Jamie and i are going to spend the nights before and after the ceremony at a suite in this hotel http://www.bestwestern.at/goldeneradler/ (http://www.bestwestern.at/goldeneradler/) This is then where we will all spend the afternoon having cocktails and a light lunch, if anyone needs to freshen up then they can do so up in our room before we move on.
I couldnt get pics of inside the venue for our ceremony but i took a pic of someone elses wedding pics (if they work) to get some idea of it

Then Jamie and i will go to Schloss Ambrass a castle nearby to have some pics done on our own, we went to see it last time we were there and again this time

God its been a busy few weeks lol also had my dress arrive ok so i have to diet but apart from that its gorgeous, it had a hooped underskirt with it and i dont think id have been comfortable with it so ive made a full underskirt to wear and im much happier (tho it looks more or less the same lol)
I also bought new necklace and earrings as the red didnt really match on my other one (my fault for buying it before i had my dress!) When phot bucket stops being arsey and refusing to resize some of my pics i'll post a pic of them lol
Going tomorrow to see the florist who im hoping to have, im having silk so i can transprt them over there and bring them back rather than only be able to have them for 1 day out there as i dont think real will do well on the plane journey home!

Ordered our invitations yesterday still cant believe this is real sometimes!! Will post pics when we get them back - they are pearlised cream tri fold with a celtic knot on the front.
Also i did something really dippy lol a long time friend of mines daughter got married and we went to the evening reception yesterday - only it wasnt yesterday it was FRIDAY!!! gatecrashed somebody elses wedding lmao and couldnt work out how i knew nobody until i noticed the bride was not Gemma! we made a hasty retreat and ended up in a garden party with the families who laughed all night at my expense - i blame stress!!! xxx

I was fiddling around last nite with my table stuff and i think this is how we will prob set out the tables, the actual tables will be large round ones. The confetti bits are black, red and silver, the centre piece will also be placed on a mirror and coming out it will be 3 balloons, probably one black one red and one silver and there will be 10 of the favour boxes on each table.

It wa sJamies b'day yesterday so i booked a weekend away for us to a little rural town, as i was booking it the owner said that it was the Brecon Jazz Festival that w/e too. (ok so none of u will know about it lol) Although this isnt far from where we live neither of us have been there so we decided to spend Sunday there and it was great! I had been ill all week so it put a bit of a damper on things but we still had a great relaxing w/e. Then last night when he came home from work id cooked us a special meal and decorated our table with the same decorations as for the wedding (i even followed my weight watchers plan).
Wedding related tho today is our 6mths mark which means that by Austrian laws our wedding planner should be able to officially book our ceremony today! xxx

To get married in another country we still have to register here and be issued with a certificate of no lawful impediment (proof that we are both legally free to marry under British law). This has to be issued no more than 6mths before the wedding date so today we went to our local registrar to do it and she tells us that we have to make an appt and now have to wsit until the 11th Sept. The time she spent asking questions and telling us what we needed to take with us (even tho we had it all with us anyways) we could have actually registered there and then - Grrrrrrr!!!
On the plus side we picked up our invites and got Jamies wedding ring on saturday so i will get some pics taken and post them when i get chancexxx

This is Jamies ring - he has never worn a ring because he doesnt like the feel of them on his finger but he really wants to wear a wedding ring. He wore it on Saturday for a couple of hours and said it didnt feel too bad and its what it means to him to wear one that will make him stick to it.

This our invites but the pic isnt very clear. The paper is pearlised with a gold celtic design, they are tri fold with a scalloped edge. We are going to do gold wax seals in the same celtic design on the envelopes, the wroding inside i have posted earlier.

Jamie won some tickets to go to the theatre tonite so we are off there soon to see something called Big Hands - its about a fallen angel!! Then tomorrow we are going away with some friends for a w/e full of too much alcohol, not enough sleep and way too much food thats not allowed onmy diet lol So i will catch up on everything next Tues.

Well we had a party/bbq at our house on Saturday and people crashed ere over nite and we went out for Sunday lunch (to the pub of course), so after a hectic w/e we had an appt @ 9.30 today with the registrar, our banns are now up and we have to wait 2 weeks to get our licence to marry - whayyyyy!!! OK a few things lol when i ordered my dress i had no intention of keeping the silk roses on the skirt but when it came i liked them - ish! I have now spent ages removing these and sewing small crystal flowers on instead. I dont think anyone else will even notice the difference but im a dressmaker and used to make wedding dresses etc for people so im a pain in the butt. To begin with i was going to make my own invitations but realised that i'd not have enough time so we bought them. So on the weekend i decided that id make invites for those that are coming to Austria (gets it out of my system and i dont feel deprived lol) They dont show up to well but they are a silver skeleton leaf on black paper, on white dimpled card and thats a black ribbon around them with a silver padded heart on it -this is the result dunno if you can read the wording tho.

Also we went to a few wedding fairs again (this is becoming a habit!) and we booked a choclate fountain and bought favours for our guests in Austria, i'll see if i can get pics of them.

Have sorted our favours for Austria out, the Welsh loves spoons are for the women and the celtic design keyrings are for the guys. The tags have a simple snow scene and them and say ' Thank you for sharing our joy - Jamie and Valmai 16-02-2007'
Also we are getting married int he 'golden roof' and a nearby bakery makes a biscuit/cake in the shape and style of the golden tiles they are nicely wrapped etc so thought we would also have one of these at each place setting - a little piece of Innsbruck and a little of Wales!!

Life is good @ mo, we went to london on a protest march on Sunday with our Students Union, we had a great day though we were all tired after such a long walk it was against top up fees at universities (tho i dont know how ur system works over there) It was one of the things i wanted to do before i left University life - not long left now im busy with afew large/important assignments but the challenge is good lol xxx

As we will only be in Innsbruck for a few days before the wedding i didnt really fancy having my make up done over there, and as much as i like what i do most days i wnated something a bit more special. Well Jamie had planned a surprise for me last nite, tho he gave in and told me where we were going the night before so id know what to wear etc. We went to a banquet at Cardiff Castle (Cardiff being our country's capital city) the castle has history going backl 2000 yrs ( http://www.cardiffcastle.com/castle.htm) It was amazing, we had decanters of wine on the table which we just had refilled when needed, an amazing menu, most of which u prob would never have heard of as it was all Welsh themed. We were entertained by Welsh songs, Welsh stories etc and the harp was played while we were eating - it was a fabulous nite in beautiful surroundings!! I have a few pics which i'll load later and c if they are any good. But (theres always a but lol) ive not made it to uni this morning as i have an allergy to wine i.e. a hangover lol Though im gonna try to make this afternoons lectures!! xxxx

Well my ticker has now moved on a bit too quick for me lol We sat last nite and went through everything to make sure theres nothing that we've not thought of and so far theres nothing! All thats left is for me to decorate our cakes which obviously can't be done yet. Well we are now down to 43 days to the wedding and we actually leave for Austria 6 days before that! I can't believe that it has actually come this close and that its so prepared and organised, we have practically nothing to do as far as wedding preparations go. The odd thing is that this is worrying me, i know im an organised person but i keep racking my brains to think of something which we must have forgotten, is this normal?
I have 2 large assignments to be done by the 19th Jan and then i should be ok until after the wedding besides for attending lectures, so i have them to focus on until then. Hope everyone one elses planning is going well. xxx

As far as forgetting something, just make a master list of everything you need to do or pack before you leave. Check and double check that list and you will be fine.

I had to be organised as i'm also in my final year of my BSc and knew id need time for study/assignments, and i need a clear head for that. I have taken to writing silly little things down, just cos it makes me feel better but they arent things which would make or break the day if remembered/forgotten.

Well i cant believe it but 4 weeks today we will be fly to Austria! We have had a few problems with our arrangements out there but all this has meant to me is a few extra emails (im not one to get stressed over things). We initially had to change our maine meal form the evening to the day, the place we wanted in the day would prefer us to have this lunchtime, straight after the ceremny and we had intended going to a castle for some pics int he snow. (sorry this is long lol) So now we are having our ceremony then having pics outside with everyone, then our meal and then jamie and i will go to the castle with the photographer about 2 - 2.30 and we shoudl then be about an hour. Its not ideal but we cant go later cos of the light and the hotel cant really do food much later.
In the evening we are now going back up to the small gasthof that we are staying in the rest of the week and we have booked a typical Tyrolean entertainer for the evening and asked for tradtional food to be served for us all so we can then have a fun evening to relax in and it will only be jamie and i that will have to leave there to go back to the honeymoon suite we've booked for that nite! Things never rn smoothly do they lol Hope everyone else planning is going ok! xxx

The venue did not change anything melissa we changed from a restaurant in the evening to a different place in the day time, as we werent happy with the service we were having with the restaurant manager in relation to menus/costing etc.
Tyrol is a region in Austria it's where Innsbruck is and it has a unique culture going back many centuries. Sorry lol maybe i should have explained things a little more! xxx

Well as is always the case things go nice and smoothly and then WALLOP!!! All of us are flying out to Innsbruck with British Airways, but we are on 3 separate flights/days. Apparently there is a strong possibility of industrial action (strikes) on the day our families are due to fly out, our date is meant to be unaffected but not theirs! The union is in final talks with the airline so please all keep ur fingers crossed that they get it all sorted out or we will end up with just us and 2 mates at this wedding!!!

We have looked at what other flights are available and they'd have to go to Munich, Germany and then get a train into Austria, which will be a pain. The thing is we have had no email or anything informing us of the likelihood of this strike, just what we heard on news. Jamies mum panics terribly so we havent told them yet and dont know whether to or not - she could worry unnecessarily, but on the other hand she should be told so that they can rebook if they want to.
I think i will just go back to essay writing lol it was easier than this!

That is a tough call seeing as the strike would occur on the day they are supposed to fly and so many other travelers would be displaced as well.

Maybe continue to wait it out, hopefully the situation will end amicably and without strike. If the strike is still looming 7 days before they leave ask both your parents what they think they should do.

I am really hoping the strike doesn't happen though.

Still no news on the strike yet but at least they are all still in talks so fingers crossed please!!
Got my dress etc all out this morning and thought id try it on so heres a few pics, bare in mind though i had just got up so im a mess lol The crystals dont show up much tho im sure they will do when i'm outside and its a proper camera etc.

The strike has finally been called off so we can all breath again now!! Tomorrow i go get my hair dyed/trimmed etc so it has chance to calm down a bit before the wedding, and i got contact lenses this week to try and have to go back and have a check up concerning them.
I have started the wedding cakes so am hoping that i will get them finished this weekend - then next week i suppose i should start looking at packing lol i hate doing it early (normally the night before) because i then have to empty it all as i cant remember what ive packed!

Good luck with the cakes. I had no idea you were making them yourself, you are very ambitious and I hope they travel well.

I would start packing early so you don't have stress at the last minute. We traveled a bit to our wedding and I made a master list of everything which was divided into categories. Then as each item was packed I made note of where it was packed (like in which bag or container). Then I made a list of all the bags that had to get in the car and checked them off as they were loaded.

I am not making the one for Austria, we are having a Sacher torte out there from the house of Sacher (?sp) The one im making is for the reception when we get back. I used to make wedding/birthday cakes but gave up a long time ago and thought it'd be nice to do my own.
I am with u with lists lol i know where everything is and there are 2 separate boxes containing things to go to Austria and things for our home reception, it will just be a matter of packing them into our cases really.
At least now we dont have the strike to worry about thankfully! We've just spent a nice relaxing afternoon, we went swimming and had lunch etc. xxx

Well not much happening now the panic is over about the strike. I went to have my hair dyed and tidied up on Thursday and bought a few more favours as we have a few more guests than we'd originally thought when i bought them ages ago. We've started getting everything ready to go and thats about it, i'm so looking forward to it now and can't wait until this week has gone - in fact this will be our last weekend in Wales whilst being single!!! xxx

Thanks everyone! We actually have snow (rare occurence for us) so Uni closed at lunch time which is great because i have now had the afternoon to pack etc. I cannot believe that it has finally arrived and this time next week i will be married.
We leave here at 4am on Sunday morning to travel up to London then we fly lunchtime and should be in our hotel by 4 pm. Two of our friends are travelling with us and then our families and other friends come out on Tues and Weds. We have to spend Monday morning with the wedding planner signing papers with registrar and sorting music etc out, then on Tues morning i have a trial with the hairdresser.
We decided to both keep a day to day diary of the 2 weeks starting this weekend so if we get too busy then we will then be able to share our thoughts afterwards, we thought it would be nice to keep (unless we have a huge argument out there lol)
One more thing - a great big thank you to those who have been here and supported me over the build up to this, you have been what has kept me sane! You're a great bunch and i promise to put pics asap. xxx
