So Matt and I spent the day downtown today (Chicago) and on our way back we had to drive 20-25 mph the entire way. (well after we got off the metra train that is) There is about 4-5 inches so far and we are getting 1-2 inches and hour lol. We in the southern suburbs are suppose to get close to a foot. Which is a lot for us to get in one night. The drifts are already about 2- 2 1/2 feet tall May not seem like THAT much to some of you, but the last few years we haven't really had a big storm it always seems to miss us..... oh man I'm not a fan of snow, we are getting ready to go shovel, haha I'm sure I'll post some funny pictures from that... and some from Chicago in a different thread of course :)

Here is a picture just to give a glimpse of how deep it is on our walkway! If it never snowed again I would be happy haha http://photos-a.ak.facebook.com/photos-ak-sctm/v162/225/46/69600715/n69600715_30966700_6529.jpg

We go to Champaign/Urbana often actually! Well before we moved up here for school. I went shopping there for black Friday this year.
Anyways, As long as the plows are out tonight you should be good! We only saw a few coming home like as in one as we were basically home haha. But I think they were mostly waiting until it started to stop so they weren't wasting their time. You should be fine tomorrow though!
Did you guys get any snow down there? My mom is near Danville and she said there was quite a bit where she was.

It snowed here last night and this morning, but it didn't accumulate very much since it was so wet with rain/melted ice. Thank goodness!! We got a pretty dusting, though...which is PLENTY for me.
Stay safe up there! :frogg:

Yeah, I haven't been out of the house in like, 7 hours, but we had a few inches there and it's still coming down!

Warnings
5:47 AM EST Sunday 16 December 2007
A crippling Major winter storm with heavy snow and blowing snow as well as some ice pellets is moving in right on schedule this morning.
This is a warning that dangerous winter weather conditions are imminent or occurring in these regions. Monitor weather conditions..Listen for updated statements.
A massive winter storm has begun over southern Ontario and the stage is set for this dangerous storm to kick into high gear over the entire forecast district today with near record snowfall amounts.
Latest analyses show a rapidly deepening low pressure centre now over northern Ohio just southwest of Cleveland this morning. This low is preceeded by an expanding area of heavy snow with some freezing rain and ice pellets having mixed in at times as far north as the Windsor London Kitchener and Toronto areas.
There have been several reports from the OPP of freezing rain and low to almost nil visibility in heavy snow over southern Ontario earlier this morning.
This intensifying winter storm centre will move towards Lake Erie then northeast across western and then northern New York state to New England by this evening. This storm track is placing southern and eastern Ontario directly under the brunt of heavy snow. A few claps of thunder along with bursts of very heavy snow are also likely and have already been reported over southeastern Michigan and possibly southwestern Ontario early this morning.
The main snow event has moved into southwestern Ontario now and will rapidly expand and envelop all regions east to Ottawa this morning. Copious amounts of snow as well as strong winds causing blowing snow are expected. The snow will be mixed at times with ice pellets and freezing rain along and south of a line from grand through the greater Toronto area to Kingston and then along the St Lawrence river Valley to Cornwall.
Widespread snowfall accumulations of 20 to 30 cm are expected in most areas by this evening. Some local amounts of 40 to 50 cm or more are quite likely in a few areas..Especially from the west end of Lake Ontario and eastwards into far eastern Ontario. Snowfall rates of 2 to 4 cm an hour are expected with low to nil visibility in sustained bursts of heavy snow likely.
Significant blowing snow is expected to accompany the heavy snow due to strong northeast winds gusting to 70 km/h whipping up the freshly fallen snow and causing whiteout conditions.
This is a dangerous winter storm. It is strongly recommended to avoid unnecessary travel during this storm. This massive snow storm has the potential to cause paralyzing conditions as road travel on any unplowed streets becomes next to impossible today. All motorists who must travel are urgently advised to use extreme caution and plan for much extra time to reach their destination.
There remains a high degree of certainty with this storm as the the latest computer model and observed trends continue to forecast this potential record setting winter storm.
The storm is expected to move out over southern Ontario by this evening with the heavy snow moving out of eastern Ontario by Monday morning as the storm centre moves away over New England into the Maritimes. However snowsqualls may form tonight to the Lee of Lake Huron resulting in a continuation of locally dangerous winter travelling conditions throughout the night.

My hubby left back out on the road yesterday after taking his 12 hour break here at home. He was delivering his load in OK and not sure where he is going after that. He watched the weather channel for a while before leaving and was cussing a blue streak. So he is heading north somewhere I am sure.

He won't be getting far if he's going anywhere near the North East. With our last storm like this, they shut down the transport companies here and throughout the northern parts of Vermont, NH & NY.
They are already canceling flights in and out of Montreal and Toronto.

I am so hoping they do not send him up there somewhere. Before coming home he had already been in Ohio and Michigan for over a week. Said it was awful. I am scared they will send him up that way and then he will get stuck and not make it home for the holidays. Of course worried about him as well.

He's not a risk taker. I am sure he will stop if he's headed into the nasty stuff.

yeah... so we woke up a little bit ago, and there will be no getting out. Our drive way is, oh I would say about 100 feet long or so. They also sent an email out saying our church was not going to be having service because they don't want people on the roads... I'm not sure how much we got but its more than we have had in at least a few years

lol yeah, I was trying to take some, but white snow just doesn't look as deep in real life as it does in person. I would take a picture and be like, what in the world, it is deeper than this picture makes it look!
Yeah, so we are totally snowed in and we're going to have to pay someone to clear out our driveway/parking lot.
I hope everyone's hubbies gets home safe :) I am sure they will :candycane:

So far we have only gotten an inch of snow and a ton of ice with this second system here. It has taken a little break and look like it will be starting up again soon. we are right on the snow/ice line so who knows what we'll get this time through. I'm just sitting a home, watching the cars slide by.

My mom's in SE Wiscosnin she got hit just as hard. Which means my brother who just started bootcamp at Greatlakes should have fun shoveling lol.
On a plus side the snow looks pretty soft and light but I know that snow if never light.
Hope everyone is able to dig out and doesnt lose power in the midst of this storm. Grab a blanket, a cup of cocoa and curl up with your fh/dh on the couch for the entire day!

It has been snowing and sleeting for some time now. Since about 2 am or so I would say. If it stays as snow we are expected to get about a foot or more. But not so much if the sleet comes in thicker. I perfer the snow then the freezing rain. The kids are at their dads about an hour away. And so neither he nor I have to go out in this they will stay with him another night and I will get them tomorrow night. If there is school tomorrow they will just have to miss a day. I am not leaving the house.

were down here in carbondale (opposite end of IL lol) and we got snow last night. its all gone today though. we got maybe an inch or 2 but people down here don't get snow ever so everyone was freaking out. and were both originally from ohio so we know what snow is. lol. its funny to watch people drive 30 mph under the speed limit during small flurries. then you see kids down here that go to SIUC who are from chicago doing 70 on a state route lol

I wish we had what your getting Elizabeht. Ilove the snow as long as I dont have to drive in it. I remember what we had as kids and we get nothing like that now. I also remember my mom telling me as a child how much they got when she was a kid.
We watched the Pats. game today expecting them to be playing in the snow, they weren't but other places were.

We were just watching the national news .... it's deadly. There have been 400 reported car accidents on the stretch of highway between Montreal and Toronto. The one we would have travelled. I am so thankful that we stayed put!
It's supposed to snow for at least another 4 hours before it heads east and they might even get it worse than we did. Whoaaa! I get to work from home tomorrow :) :) :)

Haha, just in case anyone wanted to know.. its NOT fun to put shopping carts away at like 12:00am.. Because the plow needed to clear the parking lot. >.<
Oh, its also not fun to get stuck in your own driveway at 2am and have to call your mom to help dig you out LOL.
Thank goodness no work tomorrow!

Dang! I knew we forgot to pick up something at Costco! It's going to be h3ll trying to rent some dogs and a sled today!
A record 38 cms (14.961 inches) of snow fell on us yesterday!
I can relate Nekochanpurr .... we had to shuffle around cars in the parking lot yesterday so that the plow could get in and it still like Hugh is going to have to shovel to get our car out.
I suppose I should shovel our patio too ... just in case we have to get out of this place. The snow is about half way up our ground floor windows (feeling just a wee bit claustrophobic).
Any teenager with a shovel is going to make out like a bandit today. They have no school so they might as well get out and earn some spending $$$$$$

I have not moved my car in 2 days. The plow guy never waits for me to come out and move my car when he plows the drive way. So I always have to shovle it out. I will have to go out here shortly and clear the car off and dig it out so I can go get my kdis tonight.

WE ended up not making out too bad snow wise. A lot of sleet/ice though and high winds. There are a bunch of channels on the tv that are out do to the towers collapsing because of the storm. I'm actually happy about the writer strike at the moment since it means I won't be missing any new eposides of my shows!
