ive never really been into fashion and dont know all the terms etc... i have been told i have an hourglass figure? 40 bust, 29 waits and 39 hips and im 5'10''. i think im a size 12? lol. im seriously lost when it comes to stuff like this. i know that i cant really wear anything that is fitting and i found these 2 dresses at the davids bridal by us in cinci and i really like them but i dont know if they would work with my figure? im guessing most people on here are girlier than me (doesnt take much lol) and didnt know if i could get some help. if i try them on in front of my fiancee all hell say is "youre beautiful in anything" which is nice and cheesy but not the answer i need! lol. you might have to highlight, copy and paste cause i think the link goes onto 2 separate lines.

Both are beautiful dresses, but to be on the safe side I would try them on. Or ones like them anyway. An hourglass figure is the perfect body type to have. The only problem with it, is the bust size makes it usually to where the other parts of the dress need to be taken in. so my suggestion would be try them on.

I have to agree with the other ladies. I can't buy anything off the rack or online unless I have bought it before.
I have (or rather had) a rather well endowed top half and I found that anything without straps or without a neckline to speak wasn't all that flattering. I looked like I had one giant watermelon laying across my chest. I would look for dresses with a sweetheart neckline aka something that isn't cut straight across the chest.
Check out this site for examples - http://www.torontobrides.com/wedding_necklines.php
Wedding Dress Necklines
Jewel
This round neckline flows along the base of the neck. Ideal for women who want the wedding gown to enhance the chest area.
Use to: modestly enhance your chest area
Avoid if: you are already well endowed
Halter Top
This wedding gown neckline features straps that wrap around the back of the neck, leaving shoulders and arms bare.
Use if: you are tall and have broader shoulders
Avoid if: you have narrow shoulders or a very large chest
Bateau
This wide wedding gown neckline flows with the curve of the collarbone. A relatively straight neckline, with the same depth in the front and back, opens from one inch of each shoulder.
Use to: enhance chest area
Avoid if: you are already well endowed
Off the Shoulder
This open neckline sits below the shoulders, accentuating your collarbone and shoulders. A flattering wedding gown neckline for most figures.
Use if: you are well endowed and/or have a pear-shaped silhouette
Avoid if: you have broad shoulders or fuller arms
Asymmetric
This wedding gown neckline, as the name connotes, features a gown with a single strap or an asymmetric neckline. Ideal for the Toronto bride with a unique taste for a unique wedding gown style.
Use to: emphasize beautiful collarbones
Avoid if: you have broad shoulders
Queen Anne
The Queen Anne features a high collar at the back and sides of the neck, slowly curving down into a low, open heart shaped neckline. This wedding gown neckline is suitable for almost every body type.
Use to: elongate the body and neckline and to discreetly display a little cleavage
Square
This wedding gown neckline is shaped like a half square. Ideal for women who are well endowed as it cuts low without being too revealing, but is suitable and flattering for almost every body type.
Use for: modest display of cleavage
Portrait
Similar to the off-the-shoulder neckline, the portrait wedding gown neckline offers a wide, soft scoop, to frame the shoulders.
Use if: you have fuller arms and prominent collarbones
Avoid if: your collarbones are undefined
V-Neck
This V-shaped wedding gown neckline flatters many body types. The depth of the "V" depending on the design of the wedding gown.
Use if: chest size is "B" or "C", great for full figured or hour glass shaped silhouettes
Avoid if: chest size if "A" or over a "C"
Scoop
The scoop features a low, U-shaped neckline, flattering for just about any bride who plans to wear a wedding gown on her wedding day.
Great for: almost everyone!
Strapless
Being strapless, this wedding gown neckline features a bodice without straps or sleeves.
Use to: enhance beautiful shoulders and collarbones or a well endowed chest Avoid if: you are smaller chested.
Sweatheart
This wedding gown neckline, forming a heart shape at the bustline, is flattering on most brides! May or may not be strapless.
Use if: you are well endowed, accentuating your cleavage

thanks :)
that has always been my problem. Ill buy a dress in a size 12 or 14 because any smaller and it wont fit over my boobs lol but then it big around my waist and tight on my hips. i know i probably shouldnt be complaining about that but its just so hard to find things that fit me. it seems like everything is made for girls that wear a size 0 or 2 and im definately not one of those lol. i should probably read up on all those terms and what they all mean. ive been told i should wear an a-line dress?
thanks again. :)

luckily my mom is an excellent seamstress so i think if i buy one and it needs to be taken in around my waist she can do it. she actually made all the bridesmaid dresses for her 2nd wedding to my stepdad so i trust her with it. thanks for the info... i didnt know any of those necklines lol i just know that i have a neck, thats about it lol

With your bust being that big you'll probaly need a size 16 dress. I dont want to sound mean but its true. I have a 40.5 bust and because it I needed a 16 as well. I would go try some gowns on and figure out exactly what size you are though.

Yep! Go to Davids Bridal and try on every different looking dress you can find! you will be surprised the ones that you thought you would hate, end up looking good!!! I think if you are well endowed up top you should definitely look for something besides strapless. They do not flatter Big Boobs!!!:geek:
