I really really want the cake topper that is the bride and groom that you can have made that looks like you and have back packs and boots on. Like this:

But I want mine to have the dress on.

So I have decided to try to make my own. Now I have never worked with clay before.....

I got both our heads done. Surprisingly they don't look too bad. I got my dress done too. I got pictures that I will post soon.

They clay I am using stays soft until you bake it. Should I bake the head and bodies separate or put them together and bake them?

Does anyone have any pointers?

I think that if you don't bake them together they won't stay together. The heads won't stay on the bodies. (At least thats the way I would think it would work.)

if you want them to stay together, if it is a waterbase clay, score the ends that will be facing each other. In other words, take a sharp point (needle/pin) and etch lines into the material. Be sure to put a little dab of water on each side before smooshing them together.

That is how we did it with regular clay- if it is that really syntetic clay- I would use glue (elmer's? I guess will work).

Let me know how it goes- you are VERY creative!!

Bake everything all together at once. Otherwise you will have to glue it together with hot glue afterwards (which could take away from it)
Use a pointed instrument like a pen tip, knife, or fork to create cross hatching on each part that you want to conect. If its clay, water will act as a binder. If you're using somthing like fimo or sculpty you won't need to use water. If it's just being baked in the oven at home you could use some metal through the centre of the bodies and head to hold them all together.
I will see if i can find some pointers online for ya!
Good luck! I can't wait to see what you've done!
