Yeah..Ive heard of it and I plan on having one only because Brian wants a chocolate cake. Im not sure of the rules concerning them though and i havent really been able to find anything explaining it either. I know that the bigger weddings I have been to had one while the smaller ones didnt.

Hi,
I agree with Cindy. I have heard of these but as well, can't find anywhere to get more info. In my opinion, I don't think that you would need one. I think your wedding cake would do just fine! To me, it sounds like something to get you to spend more money!! If I come up with anything, I will let you know.

Hi Shawna,
I searched the net and this is a quote that I got....
"]"A groom's cake is intended to capture the personality of the groom. It may be his favorite childhood cake or our chocolate decadent cake, sculpted with chocolate to represent his favorite hobby or his personal trademark. These cakes are always well received. The groom's cake is placed on a separate table from the wedding cake."

The tradition of grooms cake originated in England where a slice of fruit cake is placed in a small box and sent home with each unmarried woman. She was to place the cake under her pillow and then dream that evening ofher future betrothed."Hope this helps!!! :p

OK this explains it. LOL My FH got me the game Battle of the Sexes for Christmas. One of the questins was about this. I was like why the hell would you put cake under your pillow. Now I know where it came from. Thanks.

The grooms cake is quite common around here. Here is some info I found about it ...

"This may have come from an old southern tradition and once was actually referred to as the wedding cake and the fancier cake was called the brides cake. The grooms cake was usually a fruit cake and was cut into slices and passed out as favors to the guests and taken home. One superstition was if an unmarried young girl would put the cake under her pillow, she would dream of her future husband" Sort of like KMac posted ;)

"Nowadays the grooms cake is usually chocolate though it can be anything the groom likes as it's main purpose now is to give the groom a special part of the wedding. Many brides order the grooms cake as a secret and have it shaped and/or decorated to reflect the grooms' personality, interests, hobbies, or even a college logo or family crest. You could also have him pick it out himself. It is usually served at the reception but some brides have been known to serve the grooms cake at the rehearsal dinner. This works especially well for those with a smaller guest list"

The grooms cake can also serve as a second desert offering to your guests.

I've seen a few weddings were the couple cut the grooms cake and the bride gives the first slice to the grooms mother.

If you are on a tight budget, I don't think you need to have one though

Brian does want one, and I have a friend that said she wanted to make it but I would like for it to have some sort of "Brian theme" to it, but I cant come up with anything I know she could recreate.

A cake in the shape of the truck would be cool. I don't know how easy it would be to make though.

I don't think that it is necessary, but they are always nice to acknowledge your groom and his interest.

Hes gonna have his grooms cake, but I dont know how creative the woman making it is. The truck is a cute idea, and i even thought about having it made in the shape of a fish since we are going fishing on our honeymoon.

Those are cute. I need to talk to my "baker" and see what she can do. She might be a lot more creative than I give her credit for.
