Ugg... sorry this is a money vent. Ok, so I just got a raise and with that I take home 250 more a month after taxes. And FH just did a big network contract work job (on the side) and all together we made an extra 2000K this month. We were all excited to put in away in the wedding fund when FH's heater broke in his jeep. To get to the heater in a jeep you basically have to take apart the whole **** car! Also his car also needs new tires, BAD (so does mine, but mine actually can wait till after winter). And to make matters worse, my dog ditto has heartworms that we have been trying to cure since we adopted her 2 years ago. When we adopted her we knew that she was heartworm positive but she was treated and they assured us that she would be clear in 6 months. 2 flippin years later she still has baby worms. The vet seems to think there is a small amount of adult worms still in her body (though she test negative for it). So now since everything else has failed we might be faced with giving her these expensive injections all over again. Bye bye extra money. I swear we can't catch a break. We have been putting away 400 per month (an trust me, its hard), but as each month gets closer I worry more and more. We are up to 12k for our 20k budget. FH's parents said they would contribute 5k which in that case we are in fine shape. But FMIL has made comments a number of times about how much money it is, that she is not sure she can do it. (an still buy new cars and take expensive trips). I keep telling FH to talk to her about it. (I am not close with my FMIL, not like we don't get along, we just aren't close). I just want to say to her once these save the dates go out to people on your list there is no turning back!! So I wanted to try to save the 5K incase she bails but its hard. Plus if she does bail I am cutting at least 20 people off her side of the guest list since more then half the guest list is people she put on. Okay had to vent, thanks.

Danielle, I'm so sorry about all of this! Everything always seem to happen at once.

On a side note, has your dog been on monthly HW preventative since the injections? I know a lot of people, especially in the NE region don't do year-round prevention (which is an absolute necessity here in the south). It only takes one mosquito.

Our oldest dog had HW when we adopted her, and we started the injections two weeks later. We continued the monthly preventative, and she has been fine ever since fortunately.

Good luck with everything. I'm sure everything will work out eventually, although it's incredibly frustrating right now.

Yes we are using heartguard as a treatment and a preventative. She was infected before we adopted her. We have also tried interceptor and still she keeps testing positive for baby heart worms. I take no chances with ditto I use heartguard year round, and use frontline year round. Plus its very woody where we live and the ticks come out (in MA) around Sept-Dec. As far as I am concern the preventative meds are so inexpensive especially when compared to the cost of treating it after they are infected.

Glad to hear you use it year-round. It's just not worth the risk on doing it seasonally. Poor Ditto! I know a few dogs who have been treated with Heartgard instead of the injections, but I've never heard of it not working after 2 years (the timeline our vet gives).

I'll keep you and Ditto in my thoughts!

Yea this is new for my vet too. She said she has never seen any dog still be testing positive after immiticide injections, interceptor and 2 years worth of heartguard.

I KNOW WHAT YOU MEAN!!! My 2002 Jeep's heater vents quit working on the passengers side too recently. Here is is going to run around $1000 to fix- since they have to rip out the entire dash:censored:

Turns out it is a common problem!
After I did so much research before I bought this car!!! :chair:

Ugh! So sorry for you! But you should DEF. be proud that you've been able to save up that much so far... and you have a little while to go... maybe some more big breaks will happen for you. AND GET FH TO TALK TO HIS MOM!!! Withhold "priviledges" if you have to, haha... he'll talk to her tonight if you tell him that! Anyway, things will work out!!!

Poor Danielle! I know the feeling, trust me...when we first planned our budget it was actually higher than what we ended up spending...I had to cut it completely in HALF and we ended up having a shotty photographer, and DJ so believe me you could be worse off...I'm not ranting just letting you know there are some people out there that can't even spend 12,000 TOTAL (including honeymoon) so be proud that you two have been able to save even that

Just wanted to give everyone an update on the Ditto situation. We are going to go ahead and redo the immiticide injections again. I got the quote from the Vet yesterday.... almost 1,200 :whoa: Yea I almost had a heart attack. We called the shelter and they were willing to donate the meds (which is about $350) but only if our vet would pick up the meds. Our vet will not do this because its against policy. So then the shelter offered us $240 dollars to help cover some of the costs, which we gladly accepted. The vet is looking to shave off some cost as well. But its hard because everything is times 3 for these treatments. So looks like we are going to have to pay around 800ish. Which totally sucks, because thats means my xmas bonus is now spent, but what are you going to do. Its better then the 1200. So she will go in for her first treatment after the holidays. She will have to stay at the hospital over night :sob:

Ouch. I'm glad the shelter is helping with some of the expenses. I can't believe the price difference in different regions. I was talking to a friend of mine who does rescue work in the NE, and she just took in a HW+ dog. Treatment is estimated around $1000.

When we had our dog treated, it was a little over $300, and that was only because she had a mild reaction the following day, so we had to rush her back to the vet for observation and fluids.

Most people here dump their dogs when they find out they have HW. :( Ditto's lucky to have such great parents!

Was that for 3 injections? Ditto is having 3, which mean meds X 3 hopitalization X 3 and satiation X 3

Our girl had 2 injections. As far as I know, the vets here usually only do two.

I guess sometime last year they changed the protocol. Ditto only had two first time around. My vet is claiming she should have had 3.

Wow Danielle! I am sorry you are having to go through all this right now! You sure are a good "mommy" to Ditto though...I know that the cost of taking care of a sick animal can get crazy, but you just can't say no! :puppy:

Danielle I feel your pain. I have been bringing home big checks but with bills and loans, I have 20 dollars left per pay period for gas and 20 left for groceries... FH checks have been paying the remainder of the grocery tab which is most of it... I remember before being engaged and not having bought a piece of property... I had at least 1000 left over to do things with.. now its hard living off roughly 40 bucks if that a check biweekly!!!

And about your dog.. we are in a similar boat.,.. our Polaris has hip dysplasia... and the supplements are 100 dollars a month... to help with his hips... dont worry girl if I can do it on 40 bucks biweekly you are going to be ok... it is going to be stressful.. but in the end you have your FH and Ditto there for you.... keep your head up!
