Ok ... so a friend of mine is getting married this weekend. The wedding is an hour away from where we live but the reception is actually close to where we live. (She is from Griffin and He is from Macon - here)

Well... with gas being as high as it is that is $$$ just to go to the wedding ... plus I went in on a huge couples shower for her and her FH and spent $60 on throwing that. Well ... I just paid all the bills for this month and Christmas is coming up and we want to buy a gameboy thing for our "angel" for Christmas.

SO ... WHAT WHOULD YOU DO? Would you bring a gift? Seriously I have like $20.00 in my checking account and I DON'T want to touch my savings ...
Since I went in and spent so much on her shower ... would it be fine if I did not take a gift????

If I were you I would just bring a nice card. If this person is your friend she will be glad you are there and understand you have already put alot into things for her with the shower and all.

If you really wanted to give her a "gift" at the wedding, why don't you do something DIY? Even a small, handmade accordian booklet with pictures of the two of you, or quotes, or advice, or even wishes for down the road 5, 10, 20, 50 years from now... would be awesome. Then, if you wanted, you could get her something else, after christmas.

Is this friend coming to your wedding? Just keep in mind that people DO keep lists of what others gave them (right or wrong), and they'll likely reciprocate with whatever you gave them.

That being said -- a few of my best friends didn't make it to our reception. I was crushed. Yet I appreciate that they didn't come, eat, drink, and have a blast on my dime and not even give enough to cover their dinner.

Unpopular opinion -- sure. But it still seems weird. Especially knowing the type of people they are - and how I am. I know I'm shallow.

I totally understand, my friend is getting married and Matt is in the wedding and is renting the tux and then we have to drive about 2 hours each way to get there, and I did buy her a shower gift. I love the two that are getting married to death, and he was in our wedding and did the same thing rented a tux drove all that stuff. They are getting married December 28th, it is just hard with the holiday being so close! Maybe I will just put together a homemade recipe book or something. You could do something like that as well, things that you have tried and think are good... just a thought... I just thought of it btw, so this post helped me ;)

Last night I went to my moms and raided her gift closet! She has all kinds of gifts stuffed into a closet for last minute birthdays or stuff she picked up on sale... So I took this really pretty silver tray. (It was only $5.00 on sale but it looks like so much more!) Thank Goodness for moms who don't procrastinate and always plan ahead!!! I wish it was genetic!!!

My mom does the same thing! Maybe its a "mom thing". Glad to hear it worked out. Have fun at the wedding and drive safe!

I do that same thing...I have tons of gifts in a closet. They are usually things I have bought for people and just forget to give them to them!

hhahaa thats not EXACTLY the same thing but its hilarious (my mom actually does that -- she doesnt mean to plan ahead :) just forgets to give out the gifts on time , then she is prepared next time!)

I think those gift closets are popular, I've heard about them before. It's a good idea, if you have the budget to buy. But you could get things on sale and stash them for later. Its a great idea we all know sometimes we forget some events.

Vana and Lauren your mom's are awesome, they'll always be prepared!

I made a really awesome book full of pictures and had all her friends write a full page to her. I gave that as a wedding gift since I'd spent so much already and I thought this was much nicer. I never got a thank you card or a thank you for that matter until I actually asked her about that.
