My name is Jennifer and I am a cake decorator down here in the beautiful Rio Grande Valley of Texas (close to South Padre Island). Our family moved down here a couple of years ago and it has taken me a while to get my business offically off the ground in a new state... but here I am now, getting ready to meet for the first time with an established wedding coordinator in our town. I've been putting together a little folder of information about my business including a copy of my wedding cake policies, flavors that I offer, price sheet, a copy of "FAQ's" and a "My Wedding Cake Worksheet" to help brides sort out some basic decisions on design and style of their cake. I've included a business card and a "present this card for a free cake tasting" postcard. I would love to know how brides would feel about having this information up front when searching for someone to do their wedding cake. Is all this "over-the-top" (too much reading material) and would just picking up a business card be better? And on the vendor side of things... the cost for each folder is probably less than $2 to put together. Is it worth it to me to make up a bunch of these and take to the coordinator or should I just give them out myself upon first contact with a bride?

Thanks everyone for your input! I look forward to hearing from you and getting to know everyone here!

I Think This Is Great, For Me, I Dont Really Like To Talk Face To Face Until I Know For Sure What I Want, I Think The Info Sounds Right. Also Do You Have A Website, I Know I Am More Incline To Call Someone If I Can Look At Their Stuff And See What They Have Done Before... Kinda Get To Know Them With Out Having To Talk With Them... (that Sounds Weird I Know) I Think The Free Tasting Card Is A Nice Idea, If You Can Get Them In Your Seat Eatting The Cake Hopeuflly You Can Get Them Hooked!

Good Luck.

Hey, thanks for your reply! Yes, I do have a website and it's listed on my business card and on the label that I put on the front of the folder . . . and I just figured out how to add a "signature" here so it should be listed at the bottom now (hopefully!) :D

Your website looks great and you are very talented!
I agree with Krim ... I am the SAME way. I am more likely to call someone after I have seen prices, checked out websites WITH PRICES, etc or I will call based off a great recommendation from a trusted vendor or friend. So I think the packets would be a great investment. You might could even offer the wedding coordinator somesort of discount to her clients if she refers them to you ... like 10% off or 1/2 off the grooms cake with every wedding cake order. Just an idea ...
Good luck to you and I hope you post more here on one wed ... I know some stressed out brides who would be glad to get your opinion on things!

I really appreciate the input!! My husband tends to think I'm too "wordy" and that "less is more"! lol Also, I'm an internet addict (especially when it comes to message boards) so you all will probably be seeing me around quite a bit! And thanks for the idea of offering a discount to brides that she refers... I may work up something like that!

I do have to agree with your hubby..less is sometimes more...you don't want to give people TOO much you want to give them a spark for them to have to call for something else, then you can woooooo them!!!! I think pics, prices, and policies are great!!!

Welcome to OW!!! Stick around and read! You will learn trends, and ideas that you can then talk about with brides. Brides love to think you are COol and hip and know what is happening!!!!
