I just got done at the orthodontist. I haven't had dental insurance since I graduated high school about 5 years ago so I haven't been to the dentist since then. I know that I really need to go and I was talking to the ortho about it needing a check up & cleaning and he said that it would be a really good idea for me to go because he noticed some tartar and he's concerned. I guess I'm just going to have to put it on the credit card! I'm so embarrassed to go to the dentist and tell them how long it's been. And I'm scared there may be something wrong because I haven't gone in a while. Yuuuck. :rain:

Don't worry about it. I hadn't gone to the dentist from when I was like 8 years old until after I was nearly out of college. It's better to go now, before you start having problems and are in pain.

Growing up I always went to the dentist every 6 months, and actually I didn't miss an appointment (like I went seriously ever 6 months) until I got married. Right now Matt and I don't have insurance, and won't until at least this summer, so about 2 months ago would have been my 6 month mark, It kinda drives me crazy. I heard it isn't TOO expensive for a cleaning, as long as that is all they have to do. My mom works for an insurance company and she said for out of pocket payment it is usually less than $100 (at least in my area) for a simple cleaning, that is no x-rays or anything though.

BUT people wait years between visits all of the time. I had a friend in high school who went for the first time when he was 18. Call and see, it may not be as expensive as you think... as long as you are just wanting a basic cleaning, and I guess it depends on where you live. I love the feeling of clean teeth... I can't wait until summer to get 'em cleaned :)

And as long as your brush your teeth when you get up and go to bed, you shouldn't have any major issues, Maybe a cavaty (sp), but I hope nothing more. I hope all goes well!!

Thanks guys. I'm starting to calm down. :frogg: I'm gonna try to drag my dad with me. He needs to go sooo badly, but I know that he's going to need more work done. After he gets my butt out of the house he'll have more money to do that sort of thing though.

Steve and I just went after neither of us going for over 6 years. I felt so bad saying how long it had been because I use to be so good about it. But they understood the not having insurance thing. Good luck and I hope you can get your dad to go with you!

Have You Thought About Maybe A Dental School? Fh Is Able To Work On People For 1/3 Of The Cost... Although Maybride Is Correct. In My Job We Pay Dental Claims And They Are Not That Awful. Depending On The Service. If You Have To Have Major Stuff Done I Would Sugest A Dental School, They Are Still Under The Supervision Of A Dentist And It Cost Much Less.

Awesome suggestion Krim!!!
If you don't have a Dental school in your area ... maybe there will be a "Dental Assistant" Program at your local Tech school that does that kind of thing!
