This is what we woke up to this morning! Now .... to be fair, we knew it was headed our way but when it's the first major storm of the year, no one is every "really prepared".
Luckily, I am able to work from home today (I am wired into the office by computer and telephone) but poor Hugh had to dig himself out to even get out of our apt. driveway. As you can see, I was taking pics instead of helping. LOL
Schools are closed (collective shouts of joy from the kids - SNOW day!!!!), day cares are closed, flights are cancelled or delayed and it's not finished yet. This storm has hit all of Canada (which is unusual).

 Hugh does not look happy in that last picture!
I want snow! We're in the middle of a drought here in NC, so I doubt if any snow is coming our way... but I can still wish!

Yep, Wisconsin was hit, too! We got 3.5" and I was housebound all day Saturday. Got up to dig out my parking spot Sunday morning! Now I feel muscles in my back that I didn't know existed... LOL!

Those pics are very pretty. I wished it snowed around here. I wish we could go up to the snow this year. Maybe next year.
I agree, Hugh doesn't look very happy in that last picture.

I know that snow is a pain in the butt for most people, but dang it, I'm jealous! It's been a couple years since I've even seen snow, and I had to travel to Nebraska to see it! LOL
Down here, if we have snow flurries, everything shuts down and everyone gets so upset and frenzied. I want some snow!!!!

We got 2 inches of snow saturday night into sunday morning. Then last night we got some freezing rain.
Poor Hugh having to do all the shoveling...LOL. Did you at least make him some hot chocolate of Coffee to drink when he was done?
Oh and I had to laugh. While it was only 2 inches, I have a picture of Steve shoveling yesterday giving me the same kind of look!

He had already had his coffee (which he made - lol but that is his morning job) and I did offer to get dressed and help him but he turned me down. I offered three times, in fact.
Prior to that last photo, he didn't know that I was taking pics so that look, isn't directed at me. He had just turned around out of breath. :)
He was ticked off that the snow removal people had not come yet. He was also ticked that the plow had buried our parking lot exit onto the street (someone else was digging that out).
I talked to him later and he says he's thankful that we got the winter tires put on and that we have a bigger car because he took a run at the exit and plowed through the snow onto the street.
My dilemma today is that I need to get a skid shipment from Montreal to California by Friday but the trucking company won't pick up today. If they pick up tomorrow, the shipment won't make it by Friday. *gulp* .... I don't know what to tell the distributor .... LOL
Maybe I will just send them the service alert?
UPDATED SERVICE ALERT FOR MONDAY, DECEMBER 3, 2007
The first winter storm of the season, accompanied by heavy snows and strong winds, has forced the closure of UPS Freight's Montreal Service Center this morning and is affecting traffic throughout the Northeast.
In addition to Montreal, where there is 18 inches of snow on the ground with another foot and half expected, the company's center has shut down operations. Other centers are reporting delays as the storm cuts a large swath through the region.
The Burlington, VT, Service Center is running about one-third of its routes.
Portland, ME, , where there is half a foot of snow is on the ground and another six inches forecast, the center is running approximately two-thirds of its operation this morning.
In New Hampshire, the Manchester Service Center reports it has been forced to curtail service in the northern and western parts of the state.
All of us gals that never get snow should switch with the ones that are so over it! LOL. I love snow! I spent a Christmas in Rhode Island one year and loved every minute of it, but I can see how it would get so bothersome.

Oh those pictures are so pretty. I'd like a little snow again mainly just on Christmas day though, I so dont miss shoveling the sidewalks and driveways just for the snowplows to come by and mess it all up on ya.
Growing up in Wisconsin I was so ready to have a green winter when I finally moved to Florida. Then to VA it snowed but not alot. Then I moved to AZ and I tell you what I would love to see snow. Well I got my wish last year. It snowed and it came into the valley. We ended up with just about a foot of snow, the first snowfall to hit the valley in over 25yrs!!! I was out playing in it like a 5yr old.

I love working part time. We woke up to the same thing as Elizabeth, just as much and it is still snowing. The kdis had to school and I didn't have to work today. Poor Nicholas had to go dig himself out and he is still getting used to all the snow. In WV if they got snow like this the whole state would shut down lol. Not here. The day cares dont clsoe but the schools do.
Speaking of the schools... my phone rang at 5:50 this morning. I answered it and it was a recording fo rthe super intendent of the schools saying my city had no school today. This was a first for me and my kids have been in school for 4 years now. I could so pass on that phoen call that early and just check the TV as we always have.
My kids have been out twice already today. I will go out later on and clear off my car for the morning. I have tomorrow off also but have to get the kids to school.

I hate snow. I always like to say that I was somehow born in the wrong state. Serendipity, I can't help but say that school would never be can canceled here for that amount of snow, lol. In fact, I don't ever remember school being canceled for snow or cold, and we get a lot! Last January I remember having to go to school even though it was -25 F. No joke. I guess they expect that Montanans can handle it. Not me!

I do enjoy photographing snow though. (I get very bundled up first!) Here are some of my favorites that I took last year:

I love snow, but enough to cover the grass is good enough for me. In school growing up we NEVER got out except for the time the buses all froze. Last February we got a BIG snowstorm at school, and they're pretty incompetent about snow removal here, so my university shut down for the first snow day in 28 years, then ended up being closed the next day too!

It's still going strong here too and I do have to go to work tomorrow :(
This storm reminds me of the kind that we used to have when I was a kid. Heck, there was one yday that our school bus couldn't make it up our main thoroughfare. People were coming out with snowmobiles to take the kids home one by one.
Come to think of it .... there used to be a lot of people around here that owned snowmobiles and now, it's rare to see anyone using one around here. There just isn't the same amount of snow each year, as there used to be.

I know what you mean about the amount of snow. Growing up in Maine I can remember having to dig ourselves out of the house just to get to school. The snow banks were HUGE. We would never get the cars un-burried. We would dig tunnels in the snow banks all day. And my mom has said that they had so much more when they were kids. She said they had to dig snow tunnles just to get to the bus stop. No we are lucky to have a white Christmas. I always remember having snow on my birthday ( the 8th ) and I just got lucky this year.
I think it has finaly stopped. I waited until 10 pm to go out and clean off my car and shovel around it. My DH said as he was helping me that it would have been easier if I had done it a couple of times during the day, that there would not have been as much to clear off. I told him to hush up, I had 3 kids all day and I didn ot feel like draggin myself out just to clear off the car when it was still snowing. Then I asked him who has been living in New Enlgand longer lol. He shut up and jsut said you have. He is still getting used to how to clean off the cars. In WV if it snowed no one went any where lol.

I love snow but have to say Not that much snow. The pictures are gorgeous though. It is so pretty. We never see snow like that. In fact yesterday it was in the 60's here. Now today was much colder though. Heck if we get one inch of snow here they close schools. haha
We got about 4-6 inches of snow on Saturday. Kaelie absolutely loved it. Today she was at my house until noon, then bundled up and walked over to my Mom's (she lives across the alley). She loved it. It's so fun to see snow from her point of view!

Yesterday proved "interesting", when it came to getting to work. The streets still hadn't been totally cleared. What are normally 3 lane roads, only have two lanes plowed but everyone was back to work and school. The traffic was a nightmare. Commuters are not very nice!
Today, they are reporting a large water main break off the west end of the island (yes, Montreal is an island) and the traffic is backed up for miles! In this city, what affects one side of the island, normally ends up affecting all of it. LOL
I best get dressed and ready ..... sounds like the drive in today, won't be much better than yesterday.
