Okay so here's the story...my grandad has cancer and has had it for a little over 3 years. He was only given 6 months to a year to live so we are extremely thrilled that he is were he is today. Well on Thanksgiving day we were all over at my grandparents house and my aunt looked outside and in the tree was an owl. So she ran inside and told everyone, we all went out an looked at it. My grandma started getting really upset as well as my aunt and mom. They have heard that if you see an owl in the day time that it is a sign of the end being near..they then refrenced this to my grandad. I'm not to sure if I believe that or not, being I have never heard that tale. So my question to you is have you ever heard of such a thing? I'm just curious of course i'm not going to base his health on this subject...I am just wondering. He is actually doing better...the tumor has shrunk and they have taken him off his chemo for a little while.

I have heard that a bird that gets into a house is a sign of bad luck or that someone will die but I have never heard of that one.
Regardless, I will say a prayer for your granddad :)

I've never heard that one before, but I have seen a few owls during the day and don't recall having bad things happen around each one. I wouldn't worry about it.

I never heard that before, however don't believe in superstitions - they rarely (ever) come true. I don't think that every owner of a black cat is unlucky day in and day out, nor do I believe that painters who must walk under ladders all the time are necessarily unlucky ;)

I believe that the actual superstition is if the owl lands on your property somewhere and hoots, somebody in your family is going to die. Doesn't matter whether it's day or night! The origins of this came about a LONG time ago and were based on the fact that owls are night birds, and night was associated with death way back when. The same superstition holds true for crows and ravens, because they're black.
Personally, being in theatre I do tend towards being superstitious, a little, but only about theatre supersitions because most of them have a basis in fact if you look at the origins of them.
A lot of plain old daily life superstitions came out of nowhere and have little to no basis in fact. I wouldn't worry about it! Your grandpa sounds like a survivor, and whatever they're doing is obviously working, so I'm betting he could have flocks of owls on his roof and not be affected :)
