LOL that was just how I felt today when everyone was telling Brandi that they knew someone who had gotten pregnant, after their partner had a vasectomy!

Ummmmmm you don't want any babies YET but I don't want ANY MORE!

Matt and I do not want to start trying until May, and we REALLY didn't want to get preg. until AT LEAST October of this year... that way I could graduate in May like planned. We made it through that though :) I just take my pill every day at the same time... as in I set the alarm on my phone to go off at the same time every day so I don't forget. My doctor said it is 99.9% effective when taking at the exact time every day then if its 9:00 here, 12:00 here 11:00 here.... so I try to take it at the same time. That is not to say that I few times I have accidentally taken it as much as 10 hours late... in that case though we use other protection.. just because we really want it to not be until at least May until we get pregnant.

So taking it every day at the same time is what I would suggest... so far it has worked for us :)

I do the same thing--my cell phone alarm goes off every day. I've done this for years with different relationships (although there's been the occasional slipup) and no babies here.

I've started taking the pill to get my system used to it (2 weeks now) and so far I've been pretty good - I take it sometime between 7 am and 9:30 am (whenever I wake up) - I can't see myself setting my alarm at 7 to fall back asleep until my 10 am class, nor can I see myself taking it between classes LOL
D'you think that this minor time diff can be a problem? For now it def. isn't but when I'll actually be relying on the pill could this be a bad way of doing things?

Before I got married, so before I was actually sexually active, I would take mine at differing times. But now that I actually am needing the pill, I do try to take it at the same time. I take it at 9:00am. I do have a class at 8 that doesn't get over until 9:15, and I do work on the other days at 8 but its not a big deal I just take it in class or at work, no biggie.

My doctor has said the flexibility depends on the type of pill, I can't remeber for sure but I think the progesterone ones you have to be more consistent with. For mine he's said within a few hours of the time I normally take it. I set an alarm on my phone to remind me and if i don't have them on me at that moment I just make sure to set an alarm for a little later.

I was on depo for 4-5 years after my son was born and have been on the pill every since. I'm on seasonale, so I really like the every 3 month thing but another part of me can't wait to get off the pill since I've been on it for like 8 years now...

I have been on Orthtricyclen lo tab for about 6 years now and have never had a problem. I have slipped up a couple times and taken it a couple hours late or even a day late and did not have a problem. I take the pill at 10 a.m. and can't really explain why. I guess I just have done it some many years that I'm used to it.

I was on Loestrin for 13 years, not just for Sex, but for cramps etc. I have been off of the pill since March. I never took it at the exact same time.

I have heard that most people who do get prego on the pill are on Antibiotics, get the runs, of are barfing so the pill is NOT in effect!

I've been on Depo about a year and love it!!

I also wonder about your friend who went in for her next shot and they said she was 4 months preggo. Depo is administered every three months, so she was either pregnant when she got her first shot (and they SHOULD have done a preg test before giving it to her!) or she missed a month in between shots, which is a big no-no.

Just know if you're looking into Depo that a lot of people have a hard time conceiving after being on it. They suggest you stop taking Depo about a year before you want to try to get pregnant (use other methods in the meantime) just in case.

We want to wait at least another couple of years...so for now, Depo is my best friend! :frogg:

I've heard that depo had a lot of side-effects, which you can't really get rid of immediately since it's a shot, but if your body doesn't tolerate the pill you can stop immediately and have it out of your system pretty fast. Which is my main reason for choosing the pill.

Well- I AM one of ladies over there on Babyraising who got pregnant while on the pill.

I was pretty consistant with the time I took my pill (10pm every night before bed). I NEVER missed and I rarely took it later than that- the most I ever would have gone would be about 8 hours...

Imagine my surpise when I get a positive test 9 months before my wedding date! It was just one of those fluke things (that made me change ALL of my plans etc around!)

My recommendation is if you are that worried about it- you should be using multiple forms of protection. The pill is not 100% especially not when you take into account human error...

So my advice as I rub my 6 month pregnant belly and pay off a wedding that had to happen with 5 months less of saving....DOUBLE UP if you're absolutly not ready yet!!

I got pregnant on the pill with fh when I was 18 and he was 23. Unfortunately we ended up losing it at about 11 weeks. I took my pill religously @ 630 am sharp, as soon as I got up I'd pee and then take my pill...but I still fell pregnant..

After that we started using condoms and the pill together just incase.... up until recently thats what we did..but we've been getting lazy...but after my scare last week, I think we're investing in a case of rubbers lol:calm:

Anyone have an implant/heard anything about it?

My body really doesn't like the pill I'm taking and I don't want to fool around changing pills until I find one I like.
An implant however sounds really good - it's one of the best methods (it's only failed on 10 women in France out of 400000 who used it) and you can't "forget" to take it since it's under your skin. You can get it taken out at any time, and it's not supposed to be painful at all.

Only thing that worries me is it messes up your period. Basically you either have nearly continuous periods for 3 years, or very light ones extremely rarely, or no periods at all. And there's no way of knowing what it will do beforehand.

I'm really considering it.

I heard that the pill I'm taking isn't very highly dosed, which means that in some younger women (under 25) it doesn't always manage to block ovulation - and one sign of that would be bleeding in the middle of the month in addition to the end of it.
She didn't want to give me a highly dosed one because of migraine risks - and truth be told this pill gives me cramps, pain in my legs, and I even had a migraine once but I'm not sure that's related to the pill.

I don't know - it's really horrible I've been spending hours researching birth control methods, and at this point the only one that I'm not too worried about side effects and that isn't too complicated/annoying, is the pill. Now I just need to find one I like or hope the one I have will get better after a few months.

I take the generic for Mircette, called Kariva. It's a 28 day pill pack and I've been taking it for about 3 years now I think. I have only been using it for actual birth control since May, but so far so good. *Now watch, next month it will fail haha---- anyways, it has 2 pills in it that have an active agent in it that helps prevent migranes. I used to get them and I hardly ever get them now.

So that is what I take and I recommend it just because I haven't had any problems thus far.

I am one of thoses ladies that has just a horrible time with birth control until recently. When I first got married I went on the BCP and was using orthotrycyelen ( I think I spelled that wrong) and was so sick that I might as well be pregnant. I finally after a year on it and trying several diffrent types of the same brand I said forget this and went off of BCP and was just using condoms. I went into my OB on the 17th of Dec, for an irregular period (after having weaned my youngest in June) and some pain during and after a period and being with my husband. I found out I had a medium sized cyst and they put me on loetrien 24 and it has not made me sick and so far it seems to have regulated my period out. My OB was really nice and gave me a sample pack and on the sample pack was a coupon for up to $35.00 of my next pack. If I am allowed to I will post that link or you can do a search for it or you can just PM me for it. I am not sure if i am allowed to post an adult store site link on here or not, but if you want to PM me I can send you a link with the adult site that I get the condoms at. They have a sampler that is really resonably priced.

I was talking to a friend and she really likes her IUD. From what little I know they get changed about every 5 years. She tried it because she was always forgetting to take her pill and was worried that she would get pregnant before she was ready to again. Her Husband is allergic to condoms, so she has a hard time finding birth control that works. It would be a good idea making sure you or your DH/FH is not allergic to the latex in condoms before using them.

Well, she puffed up like a balloon herself after getting one! So thats how we found out. Benedryl is her friend. She really SHOULD get an eppi pen, though.. ::Glares:: Honestly, you would probably get a reaction from a balloon. Or even a banana (it has the same proteins as latex!).

I know some meds can negate the effects of the Pill; I am not sure which ones they are, you would have to ask your OB. I personally know one of my friends that got pregnant while on the pill, she thinks that some meds she was taking at the time, was the reason why she got pregnant. She is asmatic as well as pre diabetic. They say it is such a small chance of getting pregnant; that it is not enought to worry about, but I know that it is a real concern for several people. It was one of the reason I went on it the first time; and I am so glad I found something that seems to be working for me. It is nice not being so sick and feeling like I am two diffrent people.

The male pill would be the answer to my prayers! Yeah, the pill has decreased my sex drive. :( I told my hubby I could get off the pill and we could use condoms, but he knows I hate condoms (doesn't feel good to me), so he said to just stay on it. I feel bad though because my sex drive is only high during my period!

Have you tried the patch[OrthoEvra]? I'm not sure if it has latex or not, however. But, if you weigh under 175, and it doesn't have latex, the patch works like the pill. The only difference is it goes directly into the blood stream through the skin, thus avoiding the other medication[s]'s involvement. I'm on a few medications that completely wiped out the use of my pill [though I'm only taking it for hormonal reasons...I can get pretty bad when I'm off it...]. Anyway, ask the OB about OrthoEvra. I love it, personally.

It's crazy how some people swear they have no idea how they got pregnant, and others time it takes a while before getting it right. I know several girls who got pregnant while taking the pill. Well, I exist because my mom took an antihistamine while on BC. lol I got the "things that counteract BC" speech from my mom years ago lol

DH and I are locked up like fort knox. BC, spermicide, and condoms.

Lol I actually only got on BC a week before our wedding. I read in the packaging that you are protected after a week. Since DH and I were not sexually active until after wedding I really didn't want to use a condom on our wedding night so we only used BC and Spermicide. Then I had a friend tell me that actually you should use condoms the entire first month of BC because you can still get pregnant. I started researching like crazy to the point that I made my head hurt. I finally decided that we would continue to use condoms for a while even though I am on BC because the whole thing is just so confusing to me! We were not going to use them but then I realized that I had my pill alarm set for 10 pm every night, but I forgot about the time change when we moved. We are using all three because my nerves really can't take it. We can't have a baby anytime soon...( much to my mom's dismay lol) I was so scared that I got pregnant the first week we didn't use condoms but thankfully I've started so I'm hoping I'm not lol

Contraception is a big headache.... I figure better safe than sorry, take the pill at the exact same time and use something else with it!

I didn't realize that so many women got pregnant while on the pill! OMG that racks my nerves even more lol

I just saw my doc yesterday to get started on bc. He gave me 4 months of samples of OrthotrycyclenLO and a script for it. Right before I went to my appointment I had talked to a friend who was using the patch for 3 years and has been off it for 5 months but hasn't had a period since being off it. She said the patch is the highest level of hormones and apparantly not having periods after being off it is commin - but she's TTC now. I gave my doc very specific guidelines for bc for me - We're hoping to start TTC in about a year and since I'm already 30 I don't want any extra issues, I also have depression but am not currently taking any meds (and don't need to right now) but am concerned about hormonal ups and downs, and the time between periods has been getting longer and I want to get regulated before TTC next year. I won't be able to start the bc for a couple more weeks when my period starts but I'll still be on it 2 months before the wedding.
Oh, and as for the male BC... I would never trust him to take it! Every time he goes out of town he says "I forgot my allergy medicine again!"

I hate birth control!! I was on ortho evra (patch) for 4 1/2 years. It made me sick at first then it was great for the next 4 years. I started having break through bleeding (TMI I know sorry). I thought it was just stress because the first time it happend I was away on a 2 week work trip and I really wanted to go home. But it never stoped it happed every single month. I didn't want to change BC because it was so close the wedding and I didnt really want to experiment. Finally I got a different kind, generic of LoEstrin 21, I have been on that 3 months. Thankfully no more break through bleeding and my periods are so light they are practically non existant. But big down side to all hormonal birth control is no sex drive, none zero!! Which seemed to get worse with the swtich. Not to mention another uterus health issue which can be caused by birth control, which I wont go into details here. i have finally decided to stop taking it, but we arent ready to TTC yet. wish me luck !!

Ugh, birth control is so annoying. I'm currently on the generic Ortho and have been for two years now. I had been really good about taking it every day (though not so good about the same time every day) up until this year. I missed a few days in Jan. which messed up my period and made me 2 weeks late. Because of that I went off BC for a month. Everything was fine until we moved in July and I was soooo stressed from everything going on that I forgot to take it for almost 2 weeks (yeah, how the heck do you do that?? argh)... because of that I didn't have a period for almost 2 months (and I took soooo many pregnancy tests, let me tell you!). Started back up on BC and had a normal period for September and here I am now... 2 days late. It's frustrating as hell, especially since before this year I was always on time... right down to almost the same time of day!

I think I'm going to have to go to the doctor and see if I can get put on something a little better now that I actually have insurance. I can't take the not knowing if my period will be on time anymore!!
