View Full Version : What does this mean for ME?

okay, so I dunno If I've posted this here or not but I've been having alot of issues at work and getting pretty stressed out (enough to where I had a panick attack the other night and pulled a chest muscle in the process..OUCH!) so anyway, I'm at work today and covering the phones up front for the receptionists' lunch and a woman walks in a hands me her resume saying she's applying for the "Customer Service Position" ummmmm, that's ME....I'm Customer Service!!!
so, I take her resume tell her I'll give t to our HR director and immediately start to freak out...I mean I have been actively looking for another job BUT haven't found anything yet...so, I decided to see how my boss reacted if I mentioned it to her.
I went to her desk and told her the little "funny" story as I called it and she just kinda gave me this look...I couldn't tell if she knew about the "opening" or if maybe the lady was confused and applied for something we never advertised for or what....so needless to say I am REALLY worried about my job right now and it couldn't have came at a worse time (we are about to buy a car, holidays, etc.)
what do you all think? :whoa:

Well I would try not to worry yourself if you are not sure that they are out to replace you. Like you said, the lady could be confused or was told the wrong thing or anything.
Could it be that they are perhaps wanting to add additional help for the holidays? You could always ask your boss what is up.
If you hate the job then definatly look for something else, and don't give them a reason to fire you.
Good luck!

I dont think you should freak out either, there are pleanty of other reasons, like brandi said maybe holiday help or just another person, breathe! I think it will be just fine.

well, there are 2 of us in CS already but the other girl is a new hire and JUST got all of her insurance paperwork and her raise...I forgot to mention that they have conveniently delayed on giving me my reveiw (or raise) since the 20th each person putting the blame on another which is a secondary reason I think perhaps It's me they are out to replace....just lost and dunno what to do...I need my One Wed Girls' help :notsure:

I'm the pot about to call the kettle black because I have always been one to worry, even when I shouldn't, but don't worry. Worrying, especially when you have already been stressed to the point of having a panic attack, will only make things worse.
I'd definitely ask your boss. Like Brandi said, it could just be for the holidays or something.
Good luck!

I would follow up! I am sure you have nothing to worry about!
Maybe the lady that brought in her resume was applying for the job the other lady just filled, like she was SLOW and the positive had been filled!!
Or maybe she had just hear about it, I think people sometimes just apply for old or random jobs!
Your boss would have to right you up, or talk to you first, I doubt they would open a job fill it and then fire you!

How did she say it?
I am here to apply for THE customer service position or I am here to apply FOR a customer service position.
We have people that email, fax or bring in their resumes all the time and we have not put an ad out anywhere nor are we looking to hire anyone.

Good point Elizabeth .... The same thing happens here too!
If it were me, I would probably just flat out ask my boss ... "Oh, I did not know. Are we adding another person in Customer Service?" See what she says. You should know then. It would be soooo wrong for a company to straight out lie to you about it.

okay, so I came right out and asked my boss if my job was "in danger" and she gave me a funny look and said absolutely not!
I said okay, just some weird stuff has been happening to make me think that maybe I did something wrong and put my position in danger.
She's saying the lady that turned in the application is actually an ex GF's mom of my supervisor's son (does that make sense?)
anyway she says my position is not in danger and that i need to relax sooooo,
*breathing in.....breathing out* LOL
also, how do I go about asking the owner for my review (It was due on the 20th)

That's good to hear.
I'd just politely inquire about it, they might have been busy and just forgotten about it (you might start with, I know you've probably been busy with other things, since it's the holidays and all...(or something to that effect)). When I worked in retail I've been skipped on reviews before. I wasn't hired with a group of people like others were and since I was hired individually, they just forgot about me when it came around to my time.

Thats the thing, people happen to at times just walk in and give someone a resume or app. We've had people walk into where I work and hand us a resume looking to drive a tanker truck. We don't have any tankers.
