So, what are the suggestions of how long to be off the pill before I want to conceive. People have been laughing at me because I've got it planned out to the month that I want to get pregnant. I know that isn't always how it works...any suggestions.

Well I just read an article today about Christina Aguilera getting pregnant. She said that she went off the pill and thought it would take a while, she wanted to "prepare" her body, then she got pregnant. She wanted to wait til after her tour but she got pregnant while she was on tour.

My doctor said it really depend on on how long you've heen on the pill to begin with. If it's been an extended time, it may take longer for your body to adjust to being off the pill for you to get pregnant.
Some people can get pregnant as soon as they stop the pill. Most studies and doctors suggest stopping the BC Pill and using other SC methods for 3 months before you offically start TTC.

When I talked to my OB/GYN's office about stopping my BC, she wished my luck trying to conceive, and told me that I could get pregnant the first month, or it might take a little longer for my system to adjust.

DH and I are on Cycle 5 and I think that my system is getting back to normal now...I hope.

I know, I am the same way. We said that we would start trying next summer or fall but I want to go off the pill as soon as we get back from our cruise in Feb....

I actually just asked my gyno this question when I went for my check up in December. I asked because it is hopefully my last check up before we start TTC. She said 3 months. But when I told my mom that, she was like YOU WILL NOT! haha she said the girls on her side of the family are really fertile and that she got preg as soon as she went off the pill, like she didn't even have a period after she went off of it, and my aunt got preg. ON the pill and so did my other aunt. So she said that I personally shouldn't go off of it until we are ready.

BUT It does vary per person, so do what feels right, but don't go off of it before you know for sure you are wanting to have a baby soon, and if you do use other protection... that is what we will do :) I will go off of it about a month or two before hand and we will just use condoms until we officially start TTC.

One alternative is to go off the pill when you want to but use alternate forms of BC until you are ready.

Depo is a completely different story. When I was on Depo they did tell me that I would have to plan way in advance and it would be best to go from depo to the pill until I was ready (but I should be on the pill for a long time), at the time they told me it can take up to 18 months (now I'm reading 9-12 months) but everyone is different.

So does anyone have any input with the birth control patch Ortho Evra? Their website claims you can get pregnant "24 hours" after you take it off. I'm thinking about stopping a month before TTC, which will be while we're on our honeymoon! I'm just not sure if I believe the company website...

I'm going to stop taking it in October. I want to wait a few months. I have been on BC for a long time so it should be interesting to see how long it takes.

I was on the pill for 14 years straight and I stopped taking it a month ago. I just charted my first cycle off the pill and according to my temps I ovulated and had a 24 day cycle- just finished my first 'non hormone controlled' period.

My FH and I are using other methods of birth control for the next 3 months until the wedding, and then we will TTC. We've decided that if we should get pregnant before the wedding it won't be a big deal since I (hopefully!) won't be too big before the wedding.

My sister and her hubby (married last July) are now TTC and she stopped the pill in mid April- and are not pregnant yet. She was on the pill for about 4 years.

I think it's different for everyone. I know people who got pregnant immediately after stopping the pill after being on it for years, and some who took it not as long and take a long time to get pregnant.
