I just got an e-mail from my aunt asking if we have chosen a china patteren yet... I was like eh? :purplex: she thinks we need to have a china set and silver and what not... I am not opposed to this, with FH's family they pull theirs out for the holidays and i just love it.
I wanted to know if any of you guys have picked out china and if so what all do you get and how many of what? :whoa:

We did register for china and fancier silverware, we did NOT go with real silver, because it has to be polished and it is VERY expensive, like 200 a place setting.
As for the China, we registered for 12 place settings, I just figured hey you can never have too much! We also registered for the matching butter dish, salt and pepper, casseroles, serving platter, coffee pot, etc. Just because you have it on your registry does not mean you must get it, you know?!?!?
We have received all BUT one place setting or china, some of the extras, all but 2 silverware, but none of the serving ware for the flatware.

I am doing the same thing as Megan (MissMess)... Although I have not picked out my china b/c we have not registered yet. But I am planning on registering for about 10 sets and silverware but NOT the kind you have to polish!
I like simple classic patterns! I am probably going to register for mine at Macy's b/c they had some CUTE styles!!!

:notsure: There's no reason we even need china.
It's too fancy to even use on a daily basis...and we certainly don't have big dinner parties. :bblol: Same with silver. No way would I want someone to spend money on that sort of thing for us.
That's far too hoity toity for us....we'll eat just fine on our Target dishes. Hehe!
I was set on not registering for china for the longest time, but I decided that I actually really wanted it.
We registered for 12 sets of this china:

We also registered for the matching flatware, some stemware, and a few extra pieces.
I'd love to have big fancy dinners with this stuff one day. :frogg:

Yeah ... their can be some styles that are like $200 per place setting ... I am not going to go that high. But my mama told me that even if you don't get all of your china ... that people will sometimes do this as an anniversary gift or christmas/birthday gifts b/c china patterns rarely change and you can purchase them for years to come.

We really don't have a need for china, so we weren't going to register for any. I have a feeling though that my dad will end up giving me all of my mom's china and glassware. I seriously don't think any of us have used any of since most dinners and such were spent at my grandmother's house.
I also ended up with a brand new set of gorgeous flatware. My aunt bought it for my grandmother (who had asked for it a few months earlier) and never had the opportunity to give it to her. My aunt figured I could use so she gave it to me. It's enough for 12 settings.

You can buy sets for WAY less...my 5 piece setting is like 75 a place setting, but you can pretty much always get them on sale for 40-50!!!! Mine also had a HUGE box set for like 200 for 8 place setting, so I returned 5 individual setting and bought the 8 plus pack!

:heart:All of your sets are really nice. We were not going to do China because we figure we never were going to use it. We did register for a nice Mikasa set. Its called the Cheers set. I love it and we will be able to use it for nice occasions to but also lucky for us we inherited FH grandmother's China set so if we ever need it we know its there. We are registerd at Bed , Bath and Beyond and Macys.

My thought is, I don't need china, and for that kind of money, I could get a lot more stuff off of my registry... instead of dishes that I would use once or twice a year! :whoa:

I haven't planned on registering for it. It always seemed a bit out dated to me. I mean, yes it's lovely on the holidays or such to have all the shiney stuff. But...meh. It's not what makes the occassion to me. And otherwise I'd just have to box it away (rather carefully at that so it didn't break) and not look at it often.
I'll just settle for some matching regular dishes down the road, haha!

HAHA..that is what we did, we really dont need any dishes..we have so much right now. But FH thought that maybe we could get a matching set and we just threw one on the registry at target and if we get it ..great..if not, we prob wouldnt even miss it!
China is great dont get me wrong, but we never have more than 5 people over and they all eat in the living room anyways so WE have no use for it. Although there is some really pretty stuff out there:heart:

also, fmil alerted me of this cuz when i was llooking in macys and stuff i didnt want to even scan those 99.00 per place settings --- she told me places like target, pier 1, linens n things, bb&b all have lenox, waterford etc pretty cheap--- also... if anyone has an outlet store near them, check that out-- you cant register but you could probably tell a family member and they could chip in (like 5 families) and get you the set (the set we liked for 89.00 a place setting was on sale 22.00 a place setting at a closing store sale at mikasa at one of the outlets, but it wasnt near any of my family members)

My mother picked up my china at an outlet about 5 years after I was first married. I didn't pick it but it was too good of a deal for her to pass up. Then she tells me that it was to be my birthday, my ex's birthday, our Christmas and our anniversary gifts for 3 years LOL
I must say that I didn't give two hoots about china when I was first married but I do appreciate my set for 12 now.

I bought my own set of 12 Roger Bros. silverware through some Sears monthly thing. My Mom signed up too so we got 2 free sets.

You shouldn't put any china with a metallic edge in a dishwasher. The edging will eventually wear off due to the detergent (it's more abrasive) & the scalding hot water.
Never ever ever put silverware in the dishwasher for the same reason .... and if you also have stainless steel cutlery in the basket with your silverware, it will permanently tarnish the silverware.
LOL hubbies are handy for washing up after a fancy meal. Be sure to count your pieces as you put them away. A knife or fork has been known to end up in the garbage in all the chaos of cleaning.
Ooooh! This is making me excited to make a registry! Athough, I'll have to wait at least a year (probably longer) to make one! Although, I went to a bridal expo where the Macy*s lady told me that it's never too early... since there's going to be people that won't know what to buy me for Christmas or my birthday lol. It's okay... I'm not that much of a dork to start one now lol.

Ha ha yeah I do not plan on putting them in the dishwasher, but they are dishwasher safe according to the bottom of the safe. :)

I picked Fiesta in several colors. It is not china, its stoneware. I am like you guys, we have no need for fancy china. But I do want like 12 place settings for when we have company. Fiesta has been around for ages so you can always add to it. I already have red, white, peacock blue, shamrock green, sunflower yellow, tangerine, persimmon, cobalt blue, maybe more........I like that you can mix and match. Like at Christmas we can use red, green, white. I am a dork.

I'm lucky... my Grandma left one of her fancy sets of China to me as a wedding gift (she died of cancer shortly after I got engaged). It's Mikasa Dresden Rose. It's hard to find good pictures online, since the design has been discontinued, but it looks like this.

I personally love the casual white Mikasa china at Macy's. It can be used for everyday-- and china is chip-resistant and very durable!
Here is the casual china I registered for.
