Fishbowls with two fish. I used this at my wedding to save $. They were beautiful! I put books under white cloth to raise them up and then put toole around the base. Sorry, I don't have pics.

I'm not a beach bride, but I have heard of people doing this. Although it's a cute idea, what do you do with the fish after the reception?

I have often had people suggest the fish idea but at the end of the night, no one wants them. If you can get large glass vases/hurricane lanterns (you can find a wide variety of them at your local michaels), fill the bottom with sand and different shells and then place a complimentary colored pillar candle in the container burrowed slightly into the sand, its beautiful, inexpensive, and fun. Also you can buy cheap sand dollars and use them as place cards or have your guest write messages on them to the two of you and then you can have them in place of a guest book.
Just some ideas! I love doing beach weddings!

I can see where it would be a problem if no one wanted to take the fish. Luckily, when I used this idea at my wedding, the guests did want the fish. They were all taken at the end of the night. I guess I got lucky. I still like the idea and it saved me thousands of dollars in flowers.

I do love this idea ... just make sure you don't scrimp too much and go for the cheapo goldfish. My friend did this and at her wedding their were 2 centerpeices with dead fish floating on top! Ha!

I can't help but feel bad for the poor fish.

You could use a fishbowl with coral in it as a centerpiece....this could be used as alternative to live fish in a bowl.

The wedding I saw this at wasn't at the beach but I thought it was cute. They DID use the cheap feeder fish from a petstore...but they all looked good and there were no "floaters." They had wrapped orange ribbon around the top of the bowls to bring out the color of the fish. You'll see a picture of these fish if you visit my website. I have a picture I took of this in my portfolio at the moment.
You could also buy a vase and put river rocks in it with sand at the bottom. A wedding I saw this at had a few rocks scattered around on the tables too. You could add some color to this be adding a few flowers tucked into the rocks. :)

We're using oversized martini glasses (the decorative type, not for drinking out of) filled with sand, a few shells and white finger starfish with a candle in the center. The test one we did looks so elegant and pretty. I think we spent $20 on each, roughly. I'll upload pics after the honeymoon!

I'm hoping a guest from each table will take one home and I plan to keep one and give one to my mother. Maybe some kind of random drawing, but I'm not sure how to go about it yet.

A friend of my daughter had a night time reception that was beach themed (her ceremony for immediate family was held on a dinner boat earlier in the day). It was outside and she had bowls with beta fish with some floating flowers as centerpieces. Because children were invited to this evening event, she had no trouble having the fish taken home. She supplied zip lock bags and at the end of the night, anyone who wanted a fish put them in the baggies with the water to take home. I brought one home for my granddaughter and it lived for quite some time!

What about glass fish? I've seen little glass fish before that stay suspended in the water with a glass bulb floating on top. No idea on price, but I personally hate the idea of live fish being used as decoration.

I saw those glass fish at the dollar store, so I don't think they are very expensive. Another idea is to fill a glass bowl with beach sand and have shells and a candle in it. Here's a link to the idea I mean www.yourweddingcompany.com/.../categoryId/108/ (http://www.yourweddingcompany.com/index.php/action/showProject/projectId/29/categoryId/108/).
You can also google beach centerpeices under images and get some centerpeice ideas. Hope that helped.

We are doing a starfish theme, but you can get pretty creative with centerpieces and still not spend a lot of $. You could do floating candles, or lights, or something floral if you want.

I worry about fish a little. You certainly don't want any floaters, and they apparently get quite stressed and die easily in these types of situations.
I like the look of a large flat bowl with just one tropical bloom floating in it. Very simple and because you're only using one flower in each centerpiece it's not going to break the bank. You could add some votives around the bowl (on the table) as well.
Best wishes

I don't know what your budget is, but I think these palm trees are so cute. Would be nice on a cake or used as part of your centerpiece decoration:

You could also scatter starfish, shells, and candles, on top of netting. Oriental Trading Co. sells decorative fish netting for only $3.99.

I suggest you can put a wide bowl with water and floating candles. And add some floating flowers too. You can also put petals outside scattered around the centerpiece.

An inexpensive vase, filled mostly with sand and then an inexpensive candle. It looks so timeless, and it can cost next to nothing.

Cost was an issue for me in my beach/Disney themed wedding. I made my own centerpieces:

Probably cost about $20 each...and then I threw down some small starfish (eBay is a great place to find them)

That's exactly what we had - bowls filled with water, then floating candles and flowers (plumeria).
