I got a ring about 2 years ago from my fiance for xmas, its 3 stones, pricess cut, one third carat...and I've recently noticed that the stones have some sort of yellow tint to them. I got my rings cleaned today and asked the woman if the same thing will happen to my new one and she said it depends on the clarity of the diamonds...I'm wondering if I should get a certified diamond once the one I have is paid off and trded in. Now don't get me wrong I'm 100% happy with what I got, but he insist on trading it in for the full carat and when he got it, it was what he could afford...he won't be offended when I talk to him about a different diamond, b/c he's aware of the other ring and is unhappy b/c of the $ he spent and that's what happened. Does anybody have any info on the chance of this happening to my new ring? Its the same as the other j/half a carat...

Diamonds come in different shades, from colorless to slight tints of yellow, gray or brown in them; the tinted colors are less expensive diamonds.

There are also colors like intense yellow, blue, green, pink and red; these are rare and more expensive.

There are 4 C's or variables that one should look at when evaluating and buying diamonds - Clarity, Color, Cut, & Carat.

So if you plan to trade in and want a pure colorless diamond, you will likely pay more or get a smaller gem.

The ring never had the yellow tint when is was boughtn just recently...I have a warranty on it do u think it would cover it? Its obvious its not a new ring. They never told us this would happen...I guess its not them to blame either but I'm thinking maybe I will ask, b/c I mean they cover a diamond falling out and what not...

hmmm well diamonds dont really TURN --- but when we first started the whole ring thing.. fh knew NOTHING about all the different diamons and everything... he did some good research online for a couple days and the ring he eventually picked out was INCREDIBLE ---- a certified diamond is always the way to go -- if it has a warranty try brinigng it back and explain it, see whats going on - maybe they have an explanation.

Thanks, ill probably call tomorrow, the diamonds arnt turning yellow I guess, its just a yellow tint like when the lights hit them...the funny thing about this ring is, nothing had ever gone wrong with it until I got it recoated or w/e its called, they gave it back to me and one of the small side stones had fallen out! Go figure!

A certified diamond still might not be pure white. You should research color, clarity, etc.

So just know that a certified stone doesn't necessarily mean pure white, eyeclean, or sparkly. ;)

Right, last week I briefly talked to a jewelery store about a certified diamond...he said that its a "perfect cut" but had showed me a stone with a pin point black dot in the stone...I'm like y would u want to pay more for a certified diamond but there be a spot on your stone lol
