View Full Version : Ashley and Andrew - May 12, 2007

First off, I am Ashley and my FH is Andrew, obviously. I'm 20 and he's 21 (we'll be 21 and 22 respectively by the wedding date). I graduated high school in 2004 - the youngest person in my college class! I am going to be a respiratory therapist. I hope to work in the infant intensive care unit when I graduate, which will be May 19 of this year. (also, please no one think I'm conceited, but I haven't been able to share this with too many people without looking like an ***, but I was the top respiratory therapy student in the state of Alabama in 2004! Yea!) Okay - Andrew is the assistant manager at Taco Bell. He's starting school this fall to be an engineer (he hasn't decided on either mechanical or electrical yet).
The way Andrew and I met is not very exciting (just a heads up). It was May 9, 2003. I was 17 and he was 18.
One of my ex-boyfriend's brother called me and told me him and one of our friends was going to a party and asked if I wanted to come. So after they told me the ex wasn't gonna be there, I rode with them. We pulled up to a house (right by Andrew's house) and there was the ex! I was so mad, but I couldn't leave because I didn't have my car, so I was stuck. The ex came up to me and was drunk of course so he was almost crying and laying his head on my shoulder.
That's when Andrew came over and said, "There's a bathroom at my house over there if you want to use it." I was thinking, Wow this guy is hot! But I said, "I don't have to use the bathroom." Andrew was like, " There's a bathroom at my house over there." Believe it or not I still didn't get it and said, " I don't have to use the bathroom." Finally Andrew took my hand and led me away from the guy.
We spent the whole night talking (I didn't go back home until 9:00 the next morning and I told my mom I had finally met "the one." She was kinda shocked as I had never been serious about any of my other boyfriends). And we've been inseparable since that night.

We started planning a trip to Disney World in Orlando, FL. I had never been to Disney, but I had always wanted to! Andrew had been a few times on band trips (he was a dork in high school!). We planned on going to Universal Studios also, so we got the hotel booked and asked his brother and his fiancee to come with us (you had to be 21 to rent a hotel room).
We went to Disney on March 30, 2005. That night when they were doing the fireworks display, me and Andrew were sitting close to Cinderella's Castle watching them. (I love fireworks and I love Cinderella too so it was the perfect place - very magical!) So Jiminy Cricket told everyone in the audience to make a wish. Andrew leaned over and whispered in my ear to make a wish. In my mind I was wishing that he would ask me to marry him. (I had kinda been hoping he would, but by this time of night I figured there wasn't a chance.) Then Jiminy said something about any wish can come true if you wish hard enough.
That's when Andrew got on his knee, pulled out a ring box, and asked me to marry him. I couldn't believe it. All I kept saying was "Are you serious?" over and over and then yes!
And it turned out when I called my mom the next day, he had already asked for her and my stepdad's permission before we drove down there. So she already knew and had also told everyone else in my family!

I hope to have the wedding in the church where most of my family members have gotten married. My 2 aunts and uncles, my mom and biological father, even my grandma and grandpa! We haven't gone to look at it yet, but I plan to before May (probably after I graduate since I'm loaded down with classes this semester).
The reception will also be in the church's fellowship hall. It's downstairs in the basement. It's pretty big and we plan on having about 100 people (maybe less) attending.
The church has changed in the last couple of years; we don't attend there any more, so I can't really give any info on the colors just yet!

My MOH will be my stepsister, Cessily. She will be 15 when we get married and my stepdad said any dress is fine with him as long as she's not hanging out :bblol: Another bridesmaid will be one of my best friends, Hannah. She'll probably be handling more of the major stuff than my stepsister since she's older (like the showers and all that stuff), but we've known each other for about 3 years now. And if I have another bridesmaid, it will probably be Brittany, my best friend in respiratory school with me. But I don't want to ask her yet in case after we graduate we never talk again - you never know!
Andrew hasn't picked anyone to be his groomsmen. I think it will probably be his brother, Brian, and his other best friend, Shannon (yes, he's a guy). We haven't decided on having two or three attendants for each of us. So who his other pick could be would be hard to decide.
I haven't really found any dresses I like for the bridesmaids. I think we'll just have to hit the stores and try to find something.

I don't have my notes with me, so I can't tell you everything we've been thinking of doing. But I really love this wedding cake
http://www.publix.com/images/weddingcakes/cakes/wed_romance.jpg
I don't know how the candles would work, so I may not have those, but I like having round and square tiers! And for the groom's cake, we're going to have a chocolate cake and put another topper on it that has the bride dragging the groom behind her. What do you guys think?
For centerpieces, my cousin recently got married and I loved her centerpieces! So I'm going to do a variation. I want to put a square mirror in the middle of the table and have a bowl of water in the middle of the mirror with floating candles. On the mirror, I'm either going to put those little rocks (do ya'll know what I mean?) or some silk rose petals or both. I haven't decided what would look better.

We went yesterday to have our class pictures made and while I was there I talked to the lady who took them. Her name is Theresa, and ironically, her dad is my next door neighbor whom I've known since I was like 5. She's been in business for 32 years. I looked at some of her samples (couldn't stay too long since I had to get to class), and she takes some really good pics. I especially liked one where the bride was in the foreground looking either at her bouquet or off into the distance, and her parents were behind her with their arms around each other. It was so beautiful - I definitely want to do something like that at our wedding.
She gave me a price list. Her cheapest package (and the one we'd probably go with if we choose her) was $995.00. It gave you approximately 100 originals to choose from, 48 - 5x5, 8 - 8x10, 8 - 5x7, a vinyl album (variety of colors), engagement pictures, and 5 hours of coverage at the wedding. The retainer fee is $200 (which goes toward your package) and you can pay as much as you want until the wedding - when it has to paid in full. She was like, "If you wanna come by once a week and pay $5, that's fine with us."
So she's option 1. I'm going to look at a couple other photographers next week, and go back by to talk with her with Andrew and my mom so in case I forget to ask an important question, they may remember. And when I told her my date, she said this was a good time to go ahead and book b/c she usually gets booked about a year or more in advance and so far our date is free for her.
It seemed like the day when I would actually be booking photographers would NEVER get here, but it's kinda crept up on me!

I met with my friend, David, last Saturday and took some pictures of the church. I'm going to try to post them here. It was almost as I remember it. They redid the room I was thinking about getting ready in and there's not enough room to get dressed. So now I'll have to get ready downstairs in one of the Sunday School rooms, but that's not a problem (I'll just make sure to be finished with pictures like 30 to 45 minutes before the ceremony will start and then wait in that room or the preacher's office). These rooms are located just off the foyer right outside of the sanctuary (where guests will enter and then so will I).
Here is the front of the church.

And the altar.
http://i44.photobucket.com/albums/f25/andysgirl07/100_0132.jpg
Here is the reception hall. As you can see, it's pretty small. There won't be enough room for tables, but we're going to set up chairs along the wall. And there are also two rooms off the side that people can sit in if they need a table. I was disappointed at first because I was really excited about the centerpieces I was going to do, but this will save me money.

All of your plans look pretty good!! And I think it's sweet how you guys met. That's very nice of him to let you use his restroom, since it was an emergency and all... ;)
That photographer seems like a wonderful lady. We're doing something similar for the catering. We're puting away $80 every month until the wedding, which will pay for the bulk of the food. Very wise choice. Oh, and I LOVE that church. It's very simple, I love the color of the pews (all shades of purple is very in for 2006, and it's my favorite color!) and I think it's the cutest when the Bride and Groom share the first initial.. Like we do.
Good luck sweetie! If you need any help, let us know!

I wanted to make sure I would remember some of the ideas on here that I thought I might use, so I'm making a specific post for them!
Aisle runners - (from Carrie) Get some heavy canvas and use a matte spraypaint. Find/make a stencil, add an embellishment or mongram to the runner.
Favors - (from Jenn - little hershey bars) I took the wrapper off one and measured it out and created my design in Adobe lllustrator. You could very easily do it in word as well. I put our names and the date of the wedding on the top, on the side i put the flavour cause the bag i bought had 4 different kinds and on the back I put a little thank you message. I used a glue stick to glue the paper together so you can easily pull the special wrap off without destroying it.

This photographer is very promising. His prices and pictures are amazing! The package we are looking at is only $600. It includes 75 - 4x6, 40 - 5x7, 6 - 8x10, and 1 - 11x14. It includes 3 hours on site (and additional half hours are $25). They don't put together an actual album, so these are for prints only. He (Larry) said he takes about 200 to 300 pictures and puts them all on a c.d. that can play on the computer or in a DVD player. He showed me one of the c.d.'s and he puts a picture of the two of you on the front and then "Ashley and Andrew's Wedding" on it. The pictures are shown like a slide show and each picture has a number on it so you can write it down if you like it.
And another good thing is he gives you a binder that has a section to write down your favorites as you go through the c.d., then an actual order form, and extra order forms for the parents. He also comes to all the rehearsals, takes a few test pictures there, and makes sure everything will go smoothly on the wedding day. And he picks 4 to 5 pictures and does "special effects" to them. For example, at one couple's wedding, the sky was cloudy and overcast, so he digitally made the sky bright blue with big clouds. It looked very nice and you couldn't tell that the day was actually cloudy!
He's taken pictures at a bunch of weddings (he had about 4 albumfuls with almost 200 pictures each). He also took the photos at a wedding of a guy I know, so I talked to him and he said he and his wife were very happy with the pics, the service, and the video he made for them. (The videos are way out of our price range!!)
So he's definitely my favorite at this point. He's really nice and so are his assistants, prices and pictures look good, and my date is available! Plus, I don't mind putting together my own album. I may ask the other photographers I look at if they will come down on prices if they don't have to make an album.
My mom looked at the packages and she wants us to go with a slightly more expensive one ($750). But we get 4 hours on site, 100 - 4x6, 60 - 5x7, 10 - 8x10, and 2 - 11x14. This way the parents and everybody else can get their pictures from this. At first, I was thinking no way. But she offered to pay the difference of the $150 from the package we were looking at. So I was thinking about asking Andrew's mom if she would like to do something like that, and then maybe they each pay $75.

Well, I'm changing my attendants. My stepsister, Cessily, is still going to be a bridesmaid. But my friend, Hannah, is moving to California with her boyfriend. And she can't tell me if she'll be able to make it back for the wedding, or the dress fittings, or anything.
So, I'm going with my friend from college, Brittany, to be my MOH. She is one of the people I am closest to. Plus she can calm me down and help me see solutions to problems (a big plus for a MOH). I plan on asking her either the last week of April or the first week of May. I've bought a card that has two dogs on the front and says, "You-n-Me." On the inside it says, Friends Forever. And I plan to write something about how much her friendship means to me and asking for one more favor.... Then having a sign that says, Will You Be My Maid Of Honor?
And for my other "bridesmaid", I am asking my best friend from high school, Lee. Andrew had a problem when I first suggested this (a year ago when we got engaged), but then he explained it was because he didn't want any guy seeing me (except Tim, of course) before he did in my dress. When I pointed out that all his groomsman and family would see me while I was getting pics before the wedding, he "saw the light." So I've called Lee tonight and made a lunch date for April 12 (Wednesday) and I plan on asking him then. He's leaving to work at Yellowstone National Park for the summer, so I wanted to ask him before he left. I'm trying to find a picture frame for two pictures and put our graduation picture on one side, and then put some kind of saying asking him to be my bridesmaid-man on the other side. That way he can put a picture of us from the wedding on that side afterwards.

I think that is becoming more common to have a guy as a "bridesmaid." I haven't seen it, but I've heard of it.

Yeah, I hope no one makes fun of him (I wouldn't think anyone would, but you never know I guess).
Well, I ended up asking Brittany yesterday if she would be my maid of honor. She said yes!! She showed me some pics of another wedding where she had been a bridesmaid and asked if I wanted to buy her dress for mine because she's trying to get rid of them. So I decided to go ahead and ask her so she wouldn't sell it yet.
The dresses are really pretty. I've got two pictures of them, but I don't have the equipment to download them to photobucket right now (I will later tonight). They're strapless, light blue, and have a pattern on the chest made of rhinestones. I'm thinking about taking them to a dress shop somewhere and seeing if they can dye them a darker color blue and add some straps. Brittany said the whole time at the wedding she was having to pull the dress up so she wouldn't fall out, so straps should solve that problem. Plus that would make them different for my wedding. (No one that knows me and Andrew knows the other girl who got married, so using the same dress shouldn't be a problem). Plus one of the other bridesmaids who looks about my sister's size lives down the road from Brittany and she's going to ask her about selling the dress to me so Cessily can wear it.
I'll try to get on here tonight when I have my camera with me and post the pictures of the dresses.
ETA: Here are the dresses (sorry the pictures aren't that great & I don't think the first one fully downloaded). The first picture is of Brittany in the dress. I talked to a bridal shop today and they said that no one could probably dye them royal blue or add straps, so I'll probably just have to buy some different ones. Kinda sucks because I was going to save about $200, but hopefully I can find something on sale!

*ETA: I realized I've never posted the colors for my wedding, so I decided on royal blue, silver, and white.
Me and my mom went today and talked to a florist (Lisa). She wrote down everything I needed and told me she would have a quote for me later this week. She will come and set up everything and said that she's not going to charge me per flower, but rather for an overall average. And she wants us to take her out to the church so she can get a better idea of what some good decorations would be. Plus, she has all kinds of columns and arches I can use which she said would be included in the whole price. So hopefully it won't be too expensive.
And Lisa also gave me the card of a caterer that she works with. I called and set up a meeting with the caterer, Ms. Kay, for Wednesday at 1 PM. I told her the kinds of food I was wanting and she's going to bring some pictures and more ideas for me to think about Wednesday.
I also went by a bakery and showed them a picture of the cake I like. They said they could scale it down to serve the appropriate amount of people (about 150-175 we think). To serve 150, it would be $149.99 (plus tax) and to serve 200, it's $189.99 (plus tax). That also includes the price to come out and set everything up.
We also bought some tulle and some royal blue and white ribbon so we can work on making the bags for the wedding rice. This is much cheaper for us to do than to buy the bags. The tulle is only 77 cents a yard and we got the ribbon on clearance for 50 cents!
Me and Andrew are going to his mom's tonight and see if she will work on a family guest list for him so by Wednesday I can have a more definite amount!

We went ahead and booked the photographer today. We paid $425 and now only owe $388.75. We went with Larry who's doing 4 hours of coverage, 100 - 4x6, 60 - 5x7, 10 - 8x10, and 2 - 11x14.
And I also got the quote back from the florist. Only $750!! (I was so excited I had to make a separate post in Bride's Chat!) But that includes my bouquet (which will be made of calla lilies, carnations, delphinium, and filler flowers), my throw-away bouquet (which will be mostly made of carnations), Brittany and Cessily's bouquets (smaller version of mine except in all white), 16 corsages (made of carnations), 12 bouts (made of freesia), and the decorations for the church. The decorations include the front of the church (columns and staircase), inside of the church (pew bows, aisle runner, unity candle holder, ferns and columns decorated with tulle and ivy, tulle bows on the doors) and the reception.
And I was wanting Andrew to be the only guy with a white bout, but didn't know how it would look if Brittany and Cessily are carrying white bouquets and Lee wears a different colored bout (but I don't want him in a white bout either). So she's going to try to come up with something unique for Lee.

We went to a bridal shop today and I saw a bridesmaid dress I really like. I think it will look good on both Cessily and Brittany (I don't know if I've mentioned that Brittany weighs about 100 pounds and Cessily still hasn't lost all her baby fat, so I wanted something that both girls would be comfortable in and still look good). They can be either strapless or worn with straps. Plus they're only $138 (so for both girls it should cost a little under $300 - not bad I guess)

Here's a picture of them. I can get them in royal blue and the sash thing can be ordered in silver (which will match my colors!). So we're going to take Cessily in there probably on Easter weekend. And I'll take Brittany whenever she gets a chance.

Thanks guys! I took Cessily (my sister) yesterday to try them on. I think she looks good in it. It was a little big on her and she wouldn't take her sports bra off (there were boys in there and it made her nervous), so from the back you can't get the full effect. But I also really liked it with straps.

That's a matching purse hanging off the back by the way.
I hope Brittany looks good in it too. She's coming down Tuesday, so we may try to go then. And we looked again at the colors, I'll definitely use their royal blue. But the silver didn't look silver to me, so I'll probably use the dove grey for the sash.
And now all I can hope for is that they won't discontinue the dresses! I figure we'll go order them about 6 months before.

So I met with Ms. Kay (the caterer Lisa suggested) last Wednesday. OMG - Okay, maybe I just don't know about prices for food, but to me, she was crazy. I had called her the Saturday before with my menu I had thought up and she repeated everything back to me and said she would have a quote on Wednesday. My menu is a vegetable tray and dip (with broccoli, cauliflower, carrots, celery, and cucumbers), spinach dip and crackers, a fruit tray and dip (with watermelon, honeydew melon, cantaloupe, grapes, and strawberries), nuts, both cakes, punch, and ice water (for those who can't drink punch).
For a vegetable tray and dip, spinach dip and crackers, and peanut butter cookies (to feed 150 people), she was going to charge $395. BUT this did not include delivery and set-up fees - it was just for the food. So where was all the other stuff I told her I wanted? She didn't seem to get those other things (even though she repeated them back as she said she was writing them down).
Plus she seemed insulting to me. When we were going over what I wanted, she produced another sheet of paper with "her better menu." It was $985 for carved ham, pasta salad, a vegetable platter, nuts, a fruit platter, and punch. She was like, "Are you a vegetarian?" When I told her no, she kinda wrinkled up her nose and was like, "Well then, WHY do you not have MEAT on this menu?" She goes on to tell me that since my wedding is at 3 PM, everyone will be eating around 4:30, so they'll be hungry.
And I politely told her, "I don't know what weddings YOU'RE used to doing, but mine is going to be over at like 3:30 and everyone will be eating (hopefully at the latest) by 3:45. It's an afternoon wedding, I'm not going to serve them a meal. I'm making sure the wedding cake and groom's cake are big enough for each person to get one piece. That sounds like enough to me."
So she called me back the next day and after putting together all that I said I wanted, she came back with $580 for food, $250 to rent plates, cups, and forks, and we would discuss her delivery/set-up/clean-up fee after I made my decision.
But - she didn't even want to add what I wanted on my fruit and veggie trays. She told me no one eats broccoli or cauliflower or celery, so she would think of better things for the veggies. And the fruit tray, perhaps, would be okay, but she wasn't sure.
So what with her attitude, prices, and her forgetfullness - I won't be going with her, I don't believe.

I had a meeting with some other caterers last night. They are two SILs that started out about 5 years ago. They had been catering for their churches and family weddings and then decided to make a business out of it. Their BIL works with my mom and he recommended them.
They were really nice and had some amazing pictures. When I showed them my menu, they thought it looked just fine (thank you, Ms. Kay). So they're supposed to send a written quote through their BIL to my mom at work. I hope it's not outrageous. I figured since I'm saving about $500 from the photos and flowers, that's some "extra" money that can be used to cover their costs.

I took Brittany to try on the bridesmaid dress today.
http://i44.photobucket.com/albums/f25/andysgirl07/100_0210.jpg
I think it will look good on her. She's a size 4 and the dress is a size 14. (That's me behind her holding it together). Pic's a little blurry since, as you can see, I only had one hand to hold the camera steady!
They told me that alterations are free (which is great). The only thing is I can order the dresses online for $100 each (free S&H). So I can't decide if it would be cheaper to buy them online and take them to get altered or if I would end up paying more. I need to go talk to the alteration shop people and see if they can give me an estimate of how much it costs to get the dress hemmed and taken up in the chest. Or what if they mess it up?? Cause at least if the bridal shop messes it up - it's their fault, so they would have to order another one! Decisions, decisions...

I have a lunch date with my friend Lee on Wednesday (who I'm asking to be my bridesmaid-man). I bought a picture frame that has a spot for two pics - one on top of the other (I meant to take a picture of it before I wrapped it, but didn't think about it). In the top spot I put this picture from our high school graduation.
http://i44.photobucket.com/albums/f25/andysgirl07/100_0221.jpg
Then in the bottom spot I printed out a poem I had written. And I found this great wrapping paper at Wal-Mart that had white and silver stripes, and I put a silver bow with royal blue and white ribbon behind it (All the wedding colors!) Here's the poem I wrote - now, no one laugh too hard, a poetess I am not!
Your friendship has meant the world to me over the years.
We've shared our lives with joy and tears.
You're so strong and never waver,
Now I ask for one more favor.
May 12, 2007, is coming near, and I hope you can,
Will you be my bridesmaid man?
So hopefully he'll say yes! I'll have my answer Wednesday - I'm so excited that it's all finally starting to come together!! :bbmrgreen:

I was going to ask my aunt this weekend to direct my wedding, but due to unforeseen circumstances, they can't come. My cousin got sick - it's not the chicken pox, but some other kind of pox, and my uncle couldn't remember what the doctor called it. So they figured it was best to stay home.
But I've framed this picture of us from when I was little.
http://i44.photobucket.com/albums/f25/andysgirl07/100_0304.jpg
And I also wrote her a poem -
Friend and aunt you have been
To leave you out would be a sin.
You keep the boys in line so well,
I know you'd help me without fail.
There's no one else I'd rather have heading,
Will you please direct my wedding?

Here is a picture of Lee I promised to post. I don't know if all high school's did this, but we got our senior pictures taken. Then bought wallet size pics and gave them out to our friends for them to remember us by. He chose like 8 different poses to get copies of and this is one that he gave out.

The other one didn't download very well since I was using dial up at the time. But in the other one, he's running through a field. I'll try to post that one tomorrow!
More info I thought I would share (since some of the people look at me like I'm weird when I tell them a guy is going to be in my bridal party) - Me and Lee have been best friends since 6th grade. We were officers in FFA throughout high school and we would go on trips to the state meetings (in Montgomery, AL) together with our advisor and some other people. I never had that many friends that were girls in high school - because let's face it, we all know what that was like!

That's a cute picture! I think there is absolutely nothing weird about having him in your wedding party. He is your best friend, he belongs there!

Sorry I haven't updated in a while. Our computer was hit by lightning so it took a few days for us to pick out a new one and order it.
Anyways, I got our second catering option back. The total for it was $710. We would get a fruit tray (pineapple, grapes - both red and white, kiwi, honeydew melon, cantaloupe, strawberries, cherries, and watermelon) with dip, vegetable tray (broccoli, cauliflower, carrots, cucumbers, tomatoes, celery, and green, red, and yellow peppers) with dip, spinach dip and crackers, mints, mixed nuts, water with lemon slices, punch, 9' clear plastic plates, forks, table cloths for serving tables, punch and water cups, silver serving pieces, and set-up and clean up. The total per person was $4.50 (totaling $675) and then we wanted to use a punch fountain which costs $35.00.
Plus they were really nice. The only thing I don't really want is pineapple - I can't stand it and most of our families don't like it either. And I'm not sure how well cherries would get eaten either (???). So now Andrew's gonna call his friend's mom who runs a candy business and catering business and see how much she would charge. I think it would probably be less since he's one of her favorites, but I really liked these people and their prices were reasonable, so I wouldn't mind going with them.

Ok, Ashley, since nobody else asked, how did your computer get hit by lightning? Can that happen in your house? Can it be prevented? I'm asking, because I have never heard of such a thing and I would like to try to prevent it if possible.
Also, everything sounds really yummy! I will, however, jump on the bandwagon and say I love pineapples! They are Amber's absolute favorite fruit. She is right with you on the cherry part though, she hates cherries. I love them!

I was just going to ask the same thing Karen did. I have never heard of the computer being hit by lightening. I have heard of surges, but not that.
I have to say, I love ALL fruit, so I will take the pineapple and cherries!

I wasn't home when it happened, but this is what my mom told me. It's hard to explain since you don't know the layout of my house, but maybe this will make sense. Lightning hit the roof of our house right over our den above the door coming from the garage. There were some sparks that showered into the den and the garage. Luckily neither she nor my stepdad were in the room, but they were in the living room right next to it. So my stepdad grabbed the fire extinguisher (it was a small fire since they caught it so quick - not too much harm done). But somehow some of the sparks hit the computer tower thingy (which is about 5 feet away from the door). So I guess technically it didn't get hit by the lightning, but the lightning caused the sparks, etc. etc. But we have to get the doorway and door replaced and fix part of the roof. It didn't do anything to the carpet or our cars thank God.
I don't know about anything to protect from this - I think it was probably a freak accident type thing. I still don't understand quite how it happened and I've never heard of it happening to anyone else (only my family I guess  ). But a surge protector is also a great idea since your electronics can get hit by power surges.
Maybe there's some way I can mail all the pineapple and cherries to you guys!!

Probaly the sparks hitting the tower and a surge of elecricty going through the house and into the computer caused some problems for it too. Apperently it can happen if lightning hits the power lines near your house too. :bbconfused:
Glad to hear everyone was ok and there wasn't tooo much damage done.

My brother's computer was hit by lightening once. it traveled throught the power lines. Yes, surge protectors are VERY good.
Ashley, everything looks great so far! Hey, if you have any pineapple left over....I'll take it!

I know! We've already been engaged for a year and a month (and a day or two to get technical), so the actual wedding date seems to be taking forever. Now that I can actually start booking people, though, it's kinda starting to feel closer. And, in fact, on the 9th of this month, we are celebrating our 3 year anniversary!

Yesterday I booked the caterer. $710. I believe I posted what all that included. If not, I'll come back later.
And I also did some shopping today. I got the wedding rice shaped like hearts that we're going to have people throw as we leave the church. Only $13.99 at Michael's (cheapest I've found it). I also bought some ribbon for the toasting glasses and cake knife/server and another calligraphy pen from Hobby Lobby. I think I'm going to just buy some flutes at Wal-Mart ($3.97 for 4) for our toasting glasses and find a silver cake server somewhere since we need one anyways. And I got our groom's cake topper and plume pen from Wal-Mart. The groom's cake topper is the one where the bride is dragging the groom behind her. I love it!

Not yet, sorry guys!! Things have been so hectic lately. I took my last class final today and then I have an online final tomorrow. And next week, we're doing a week-long review to study for our certification test.
And just a few minutes ago when I called to schedule the exam, they were like the earliest dates we have are June 5th - I was like what the :censored:??!!! But then my MOH scheduled hers for the 25th of this month. So I had to call back and reschedule where they proceeded to tell me it must have been somehow MY FAULT that the girl told me the earliest date was in June (because that's so likely I guess). Anyways, that's straightened out (after a phone call to the manager).
Plus graduation is next Friday and then my test will now be the Thursday after that..... I've barely had time to breathe with all this studying. And to think I tried to tell Andrew I could handle planning the wedding and school if we moved our date up to this month instead of a year from now! But I will post pics asap. I promise.

When we first got engaged in 2005 (when we were talking about the date)! I told him I was thinking we could have the wedding May 27th of this year. He was the smart one and reminded me I would still be in school and in the process of finals and such. I'm so glad I listened to him - otherwise, I would have been an even bigger wreck!

Well, not much has been done wedding-wise. I asked my aunt to direct our wedding last Saturday and she said yes. She was very excited after she made sure she would get to boss people around (like my grandma)! It was so funny!
Everything's been hectic with us lately, so I haven't had much time to post, but I'm still trying to visit every day and catch up on what's going on with everyone else. I graduated last month (the 19th) and I passed my first test so I am now a certified respiratory therapist - yay!!! I'm studying for my registry which I'm taking on the 14th and 15th this month (everybody pray for me those days!) - my MOH took hers Wednesday and failed the first part, but she's set on taking it again, so that's good. So right now studying is my main focus and tying up all my time.
I got the job in the newborn intesive care unit I applied for!! I'm going for my physical the 13th and I will start my orientation on the 19th this month. Andrew's gone on a job interview and waiting for them to call him back about going in for his third. So he's thinking about taking a job with another place and going to school (very exciting). That's all I have to report right now. I'm hoping to have time to do more wedding planning after my orientation, so I'll be sure to have more updates then!

Well, I took the first part of my RRT yesterday and passed. Today I took the second part. I failed this one, so now I've got to pay ANOTHER $200 to take it again. It sucks b/c I only failed by 1% --- I only needed to get two more questions right. But at least it was only two questions instead of like 20. The bad thing about failing this one though, is that there's no real way to study for it. This one is 10 scenarios that you go through and the other one is mulitple choice. If I could have picked I would have rather failed the first one, but oh well.... I'll get it next time!
Wedding stuff - I'm going to try to get Andrew to go with me tomorrow and see about booking the bakery I want to do our cakes. And now that I don't have to study so much anymore, I'm going to start practicing in my calligraphy book I bought. And I'm hoping to decide on our invitation wording so I can go ahead and order those next month.
They'll look something like this, with a royal blue border and definitely not that style of typing -

Hey guys, I haven't been able to really get on here for awhile. I miss ya'll!! But I thought I would give an update since a lot of things have changed with our wedding - mostly because of his mother. We've been having a WHOLE LOT of problems with her (which would take a long long time to explain)......
Anyways, we've changed our date to May 9, 2006 (on a Wednesday) at 11 in the morning. It's going to be at a smaller church and it's only going to be about 30 to 40 people, mainly just our families. I'm having my stepsister as MOH and only attendant (and Andrew will have his best man). Let's see, I've scaled back on our flowers to just have two bouquets and two bouts and some decorations for the church and I've cancelled our photographer (we're getting one of our friends take all the pictures - for free).
Then we're heading to Hawaii for our honeymoon!!
We're also not having the reception after the ceremony, we're waiting until May 27th (a Sunday) where we will invite all the people who would originally have been invited to the ceremony. We're keeping the caterers for this and will be having our wedding cake.
I still don't have my dress - I can't seem to find anything I really like. Anyways, I hope I'll be having more time to post soon. I miss you ladies! :D
