We're in the market for a new one....and want to know what you have and what you love. Or...what kind do you realllly want?

I've heard the Dysons are great and a lot of women covet them. But that's about as deep as my knowledge gets. :bblol:

From my experience I'd say don't get something that can supposedly clean both tile/wood floor & carpeting. I'm sure there are some out there that work well, but not any that we've ever owned or anybody I know has owned. Ours right now pretty much sucks!!

I bought an expensive eletrolux ......don't waste your money. Yeah it sucked but it was expensive!

My current Panasonic doesn't suck and that sucks :)

I have heard that the Dysons work really well. Don't buy any vacuum because of the hepa filter thing ... apparently that is a load of cr*ap :)

I have a Hoover Windtunnel. Its not bagless, just the regular kind. I love it, it is self-propelled and has a light that tells you when the carpet is clean. When I bought it I thought that light was a load of poo but it really works! I have had it about 4 years and it is a great vacuum. And I have some some really bad ones too! They run about $300, I got mine half off because they changed the color that year.

I'd LOVE a bagless one. I've heard that's better for allergies and such....which, with me, that's perfect.

DH and I just got a new one. I think a dirt devil pet one. It's ok. We have three levels, only one is carpeted, but both flights of stairs are carpeted. DH wanted the one with the "backpack" thing for stairs, I fought him. Now I admit he was right, since this thing is so darn heavy. (My old one was a "featherweight" and I assumed they were all so light.)

I am glad we got a pet one though. And I can't decide if I like the clear tunnel so I can see all the stuff it picks up. It fascinates me and grosses me out.

We just bought a bissle vacuum about a month ago. I love it. It's bagless, has the HEPA filter, self propelled. Let me tell you that thing has power. I could not believe everything it pulled off the floors. And I had used my other vacuum the day before just to see how it did. It does do both carpeted and hardwood floors. And the HEPA really helps. We've notice a difference in allergien already

I have an old 50's Electrolux canister, it really sucks (in a good way)(no pun intended, LOL) And a Old Hoover, that works marvels.
Then a Bissel Pro Heat Steamer, thats the bomb diggity of my cleaners.

I used to have a Rainbow (sold them and got it for almost nothing); it is a good machine but expensive and sort of a pain to deal with. Kurby is another expensive brand that does the in home demo/sales; I say don't buy either ;)

Now we have a central vac system and I love it; DH put it in himself :frogg:

I was one that used to sell the Kirby vacs. ( I didn't buy it it was given to me ) I have one and the only down fall I have with it is how heavy it is and that you have to get the bags from like one store in town. Oh and to use the attachments is a pain. You still have the big handle and bag thing is in your way.

My mother is the queen of killing vacuum cleaners. They last a year when they are lucky. She vacuums like a mad woman, and I seem to be the same way. We can't help it if we like it clean! *giggle*

Well, the best one she's found so far to stand up to its name is the Dyson. All they hype aside it is a good machine. If you are looking to make an investment into something that is going to last I'd highly recommend them!

For now I am stuck with my $70 Eureka from Walmart. It works well enough for we budget children.

If i could have the one I wanted it would be a Rainbow. I love those. Even with the mess of emptying and filling them they are wonderful vacs for allergies. I have an upright, hepa filter one which I despise. It would require me getting up to go check out the brand and I am lazy and not going to do this. LOL. The reason I hate it is because of the way it is made. The vented section which blows out the air comes out the front of the vacum. So it blows all the dust and debris away from the vacuum before you can suck it up. Basically it is only useful on carpets because of this. It was supposed to be for bare floors too. Not happening. Because you are continually chasing the dirt around. LOL.

I used to live with a family who had a Dyson, it was great and very efficient, although kind of bulky. Maybe get a bagless one that sucks well - but small? I've seen some really tiny lightweight ones they're awesome :) Especially if you go bagless, you don't NEED to have a huge one.

I know my problem in the house is the dog, we have an alaskan malamute and that thing sheds non-stop, I just vaccumed two days ago and you can honestly scraps the impacted hair off the carpet because the vaccum we have is bagless with hepa and is starting to go. The bagless thing keeps getting clogged because of the filter in the canister... ugh

Does Dyson make one specifically for pet hair? I have heard from other malamute owners that a vaccum lasts approx 2 years or less because of the constant vaccuming with the shedding of the hair....

Hey WebLady; does the built in vaccum come with attacheds to like plug in to do say the living room? FH and I are thinking of when we build our house to put one of the those in... just wondering if there is a hose attachment...

Dyson has one called the Animal. However, all the pet people I know say the regular Dyson works just fine with all their pet hair. From what I've been told, you don't need to spend the extra money on the Animal model. I pet-sit for two families who own Dysons (with pets who shed a lot), and I can't believe how well those babies work! If I had the money, I'd buy a Dyson in a heartbeat.

Oh, and they are pretty easy to empty too.

My fiance just bought me a vacuum for Christmas!!! Hehe, you know that you're getting old when you ask for a vacuum for Christmas. He got me a Eureka Optima with a HEPA filter. I haven't really gotten the chance to test it yet (since it's still in the process of being shipped to the store, and I think I'm going to wait to test it until he gets home for Christmas), but the reviews for it seem to be good! So I'm excited! It's nice and small, but still just as powerful as the other bigger vacuums!

I hear good things about Dysons, but I don't know. My mom also has a Hoover Windtunnel and it's great. I reeeaally love it. Heather talked up my favorite points on it already ;-)

This is a great thread - I'm trying to find a vacuum too! I just bought a Eureka Uno at Target the other day on sale. But before I opened it I decided to check product reviews online. Almost every person gave the vacuum one star and said they hated it! So I am going to return that vacuum and get a different one. I wish I could afford a Dyson - those are the best I bet!

The roombas look neat but I would rather vacuum by myself because it's one chore I don't mind doing!

The Roomba thing is pretty cool but $$$ speeeendy for a tiny little machine!
