Hmm...I guess I'm not exactly sure what you're looking for. I'll try to find some ideas though.

One thing I'd stay away from is buying a whole bunch of stuff JUST for the sake of decorating....vintage or not. Especially if you're wanting real vintage stuff, just look around a buy a piece whenever you see something you love. You can decorate as you go. It'll be more 'real' that way. If you just buy a bunch of stuff because you need it, it'll look like you did just that.
My two cents.

Good points!
We didn't have a lot to start out with (LOL in fact, we didn't even have a dime) so we picked up stuff here and there at craft shops, garage sales and flea markets. We painted old pieces to make them look new.
We changed other pieces to make them functional - like our computer station. We picked it up for $15 at a second hand store, painted it off white, distressed it (beat the crud out of it with a chain and hammered it), antiqued it by rubbing dark brown paint into the crevices and then gave it a top coat of polyurethane. We also bought new boards and wood panelling to make some shelves to sit on top. We painted them to match.
Our place is too cluttered because we downsized but I don't have the heart to throw out stuff and I have nowhere to store it until we get a house. We call our look "shabby chic" LOL

 ..... I just realized that three computers are showing in that photo .....
One might say that if we had our priorities right, we might be able to afford some "real" furniture .... and in a way, they would be correct but in our defense -
the computer's monidtor under the desk is fried (but we can still access the info on it)
my computer on the left was bought second hand (got a really good deal)
DH's computer on the right, is the only one that was bought new (by making payments) LOL
We need them all to run our biz :) :)
