I orderd my dress in a 10, I'm not sure how much I will weigh in a year and 2 months, I'm trying to lose. So will the dress still look the same even if it might need extreme alterations?

I can't remember where I read this, probably in a thread here, but I read something about a dress can only be altered up like 1 size and down maybe 2 before it messes with the way the dress is supposed to look. Anyone with something a little more concrete, the floor is yours ... ;-)

You can also look here http://www.leanna.com/Bridal/Shopping.htm #4 talks a little bit about alterations.

I know I should never start a sentence this way but... TV has lead me to believe that it is ok. I saw on rich bride poor bride where a bride found a dress off the rack two sizes to big, and after the alterations it turned out great. However something to consider is, how much the alterations will cost over buying a new dress in a size that fits.

I also heard that you can get it altered two sizes down... I'm hoping to get at least one size down for my wedding (have the dress already). Anyone know the timing for your first/second alteration??

I found a good link. One size is like 15 lbs http://www.theweddingwizards.com/pre-wedding-weight-loss/155/ (http://www.theweddingwizards.com/pre-wedding-weight-loss/155/)

You are exactly right as to the possibility of alterations for an entire size, and www.leanna.com is an excellent reference site for all things gown related.
Past the one size up, two sizes down, you are entering the realm of remodeling the gown, which is much more extensive (and expensive) than alteration, which can be costly enough due to the specialized construction of most gowns.
Be sure to book your fittings with a reputable alteration specialist as far in advance as possible. While fittings and alterations generally require three months, this time may be reserved as far as a year in advance (I am currently booked for May and June weddings already).
Any more questions, please let me know.

My store said they can take a dress in up to 2 sizes smaller. And they said that I should schedule my first fitting for 7 weeks before the wedding.
