... I know nothing about sales...with the exception of the fact that selling vacuum cleaners door-to-door in Texas in the summer is not a good idea.
Good luck!
This made me think of the time I used to sell Rainbow Vacuum cleaners door to door about 6 years ago ;) It was ok for a while and I made pretty good money at the beginning but I was duped into it and I would never do it again.
I had gotten a free machine out of it and I sold it on eBay a year or so ago ;)

I sold Kirby Vacuum Cleaners...I worked sixty hours a week for a month and only made $530. I had the world's crapiest boss, so I told him where to stick it and walked out. Then my paycheck bounced...and I sent his company under with the late fees...ok, I don't know if that's why they closed, but I contacted headquarters and told them what happened, the place I worked gave me my check, and the next week they were closed. It was like they just dropped off the face of the planet...I didn't even get tax documents the next year.
Other past jobs I had included a million fast food positions...I don't eat much fast food anymore and I will not work at Wendy's or McDonald's, because I have to have some ignorance (ignorance is bliss!). I delivered pizzas for awhile...that was decent money, would have been even better if gas prices weren't through the roof at the time (of course, that's become regular prices now). I cleaned houses for a year. I worked at the campus newspaper and radio station (I LOVED DJing!). I sold carpet cleaning over the phone...or at least tried too. And, last but not least, I worked at a scrapbooking store for a year. I think that covers all my past jobs...WAIT! I had a paper route. Ok, now I'm done. :)

Yeah, I had problems when I was selling the Rainbows ... working all kinds of hours and only getting paid when I made a sale. I had a paycheck bounce once too! I would never do anything like that again.
Other jobs I have had ... My first job was a pet store, then I worked at a yogurt and sub shop with a temperamental Italian man that would throw things! I have worked at a couple of different retail stores and had some awful bosses; mean ones and sexual harassing ones. I've been in retail management too. Then I quit that and waited tables at a couple of restaurants, worked off an on as a freelance photographer for many years while working a full time job, then I worked as a wedding photographer for another company, then worked with a wedding coordinator/planner. Then I left and started my own wedding photography business, that went well for about 2 years then I got tired of it. So that brings us to today ... I run my own little web/graphic design business ;) :D

My very first REAL job (not counting babysitting even though I payed for my own class trip with babysitting) I worked as a janitor cleaning the eleamentary and middle schools over the summer. when that ended I worked at McDonal's for a short while. Then I went to Dunkin Donuts. It was bran new store in my town. The irst and ONY dunkins ther is there.I worked there for 1 yr and a half. All through my senoir yr of high school and beyond. I kinda ran the place when the boss was not around. Then it was off to my first day care job. I worked there for a couple of yrs untill I mived to NH. I got a job at another day care and was there for about 9 months untill I got a better job at a better daycare and I was there for 4 1/2 yrs untill a month before my second chid was born. Then I was a stay at home mom for a 1 and a half. After splitting with my ex I had to go back to work and I just fell into the bank job I have now. I have been thre for 3 yrs this past Friday. I am currently looking for a different jobs. I dont like selling and they are pushing sales real bad. ( i forgot to mention the month before the banking job i sold kirby vacumes, but again i dont like selling lol ) And I am making .50 ess an hour then I was when I got done to stay home with my son. That was 4 1/2 yrs ago. The cost of livign has gone way up and not to mention the cost of the 2 kids i have and the debt i occured when i got divorced. I pray I can add a new job to this list soon.

I've never sold vacuum cleaners. I didn't even know they still had door to door sales. Wow. The things you learn each day.
Well... I worked at a supermarket as a cashier for a year until i went to school, at a housewares store in the mall and at a cafe on campus making coffee and sandwiches, then i was the Vice President of Public Relations for the Student Council. I've been a Visual Merchandiser for Ikea, a Sign Desigers Assistant (he was a real pr*ck!) and a campus tour guide. Now i am a junior graphic designer for a local newspaper.

Yeah, they still sell vacuums and knives (and I am sure other stuff too) door to door. We just had a Kirby guy come to our house a couple of months ago. I loved the look on his face when we told him that I used to sell Rainbows and that we had a central vac now ;)

That sounds like fun ... do you like it?
And rainbow, I hope you find your new job soon :D

Loving it! Part-time while i finish up school. I get to work from home which is uber nice. And there is potential to go full time when i'm done school. Hopefully i can stay working from home. If so, it will put a nice spin on our plans for the next couple years.

Let's see in high school at worked at McDonalds which sucked but it did the job my parents hoped it would do, it made me realize how important college could be. I also suffered through the jobs of concessions attendant at a movie theater, sold shoes at a department store, telemarketing (although I only had that job for like 2 days before I told them I wasn't scamming little old ladies out of their SS checks), research assistant, and the all time worst of them all, assistant city manager. I would rather go back to the breakfast shift at McDonalds before I would work with those wackos again. Now I teach but have done so in a couple different districts.

I started off in high school working at a fast food place. Then worked in retail for the holiday season. Then went to working in a print shop for a year. Business got slow so I went into day care for a bit. I was constantly sick though so left that and went back to retail for the holiday season again. I got offered to stay on after, but they couldn't give me the hours I needed to get to pay my bills. Then I was a manager/cake decorator for Carvel Ice Cream. YUM!! Then I moved which brings me to now, a 911 dispatcher.

I have never known anyone who has worked at a Day Care that didn't spend there first year missing more days than they actually worked. I was never sicker than the semester I did my student teacher, either. (And that was in a high school.) Kids are freakin' germ magnets!

I worked in a grocery store for 4 years while I finished high school and college. I worked temp right after college in various offices and I waitressed at the same time since temp work is unpredictable. After temping, I finally got a job in a law firm full time and I worked part time selling jewelry at the mall. Now, I'm a paralegal/legal secretary and only working one job.
I think out of all of the jobs, I enjoyed selling jewelry the most.

Wow, I bet you have some stories. Do you like it, does it ever get to you? I knew a girl a while back that did that and she quit because of the stress.
So have you ever gotten a really dumb or silly call?

That is cool Stacey ... my sister used to work at one of those mall jewelry carts ;) So do you like what you are doing now?

My 1st job was at Mazzios Pizza. I stocked the salad bar. Then I worked at Catfish King. Both of these while I was still in high school. My Senior year I took Offic Administration where I went to school half a day the went to work in a CPA's office the rest.
Ive worked various secretarial and receptionist position since then. Secretary at a manufacturing plant, receptionist at a few different temp agencies. (In the actual temp offices). Worked at a bookkeeping and tax office till my boss got sick and now Im a secretary for a real estate agent. I love it. I stay pretty busy most of the time. Just busy..not swamped.

I like my job a lot. Yes, it can be extremely stressful. But I live in a small county, mostly farms and such. So we aren't a very busy center. But there are time, expecially in the bad weather, that it gets extremely busy and stressful. O and I have a ton of stories, like a child with his head stuck in a cat scratching post. That was intersting. And people really do call 911 for a cat in a tree. I never thought that was somethign that was done, but I had one of those on Monday! Dispatchers actually have a very high turn around rate. I think the adverage is like 45%. Even people who are really good with dealing with the stress, it just gets to them after a while.
