Okay I haven't begun to try dresses on and I'm wondering if any of you have had your dresses made. Is it less expensive to have the dress made?

I do want something a little more tailored and I think I like the way the dresses with lace look.

In general you can find a dress on sale for cheaper than you can have it made. However you may be able to have your dream dress if you have it made. Figure out what kind of dress you want and then talk to a few seamstresses and look in a few wedding shops and go from there. Have fun! This is supposed to be fun.

If you know someone who sews well...making your dress may be an option...but I would go and try on dresses so that you get an idea of what style you look good in and feel good in. Then maybe you can shop around and compare.

My dress story:
I went on vacation in September and found my dream dress. Only problem was that it was around $12,000! So, needless to say I did not buy that one. But I did go to a designer and describe the dress, and togther we are making a custom dress that I love even more than the first dress I found!

My suggestion would be to go try on some dresses at a shop. Find a style you like, then look to see if you can find a pattern similar or a dress designer who could make something the same or similar.
I don't really know if it would be more or less expensive to have a dress made. I know that alot of the Bridesmaid dresses come in white or ivory as well so you can always check those out.
Good Luck!

I think I would prefer to buy a dress. Unless in a case where I found a dress I loved and it was super expensive. I'd have to ahve a reliable seamstress as well. That would be stressful

Custom design is expensive, they need to make pattern for you.and can't be reused. You can click my website for some ideas:

I was going to have mine made, but I didn't feel comfortable running the risk that the dress looked awful, and I was stuck with it. So, I got mine from Macy's, and it's all good.
