I know I must sound silly, but I have a question for you ladies.

As you probably know, I'm leaving for the Caribbean Friday. We'll be gone about 2 weeks. We have a very affectionate cat, and we're leaving her home. Every time I think about it, I start to cry. I'm going to miss her so much and I'm so worried about her.

My mom and sisters said they'd stop by and keep an eye on her, and my youngest sister (age 17) said she'd stay on weekends if she can bring friends.

But...she's so snuggly and always sleeps with me, and we have our little routine in the morning.

What are/did you do with your pets? I can't bear the thought of boarding her; my parents can't take her to their house; and we can't bring her with (as much as I'd like to). :bbcry:

Oh I know how attached you can be with your cat! My dog is my child, fortunately we are taking her with us, as we will be gone for 3 weeks. Hopefully you can get updates via email or something while you are away. I had to go away for s days for work, and I cried on the way to the airport because I was going to miss her!

Well st.john I am not going to be gone for an extended period of time, but I am having my baby boarded for the weekend, luckily the boarding place we go to my cousins own and I know they will take very good care of him, he also gets groomed there so he is well known to the staff there.... if you have a blanket or a shirt that you want to wear for like the next couple of days to get your scent on it, and maybe a stuff animal on your side of the bed for her, the scent and stuffed animal will kinda take over your position for the weeks you are gone. But may sure something has your scent on it so she can snuggle with it throughout the day and night....

Thanks for the advice -- I'll leave something out for her. :(

Somehow I get the feeling I'll miss her more than she'll miss me, though.

Im sure the closer we get, fh will try to convince me to take them - he is going to be so sad without her- However, my brother will have our babies while we are gone. We could not think to board the boys either.

For our honeymoon we plan on just leaving our 4 dogs at home. The difference is we live on the same property as my fh's entire family. His parents will stop down daily to feed and water them, give them a treat and what not. Im sure we'll even let fbil stay at our place so the dogs can come in at night. With being on the same property as the entire family (im talking aunts, uncles, cousins, his parents and his brother and sister) this is the last thing I am worried about.

However I can completely understand what your going through. My dogs are my kids. After fh leaves for work in the morning I end up with all in the bed with me. We have routines during the day and everything. I'll surely miss them while we are gone. Thankfully we will only be gone 5 days and its just up the mountain camping but still its far enough away.

If i get to have a honey moon, my mommy will take care of my babies... She lives next door, lol. And she gives them treats everytime she comes over just to tell me something, so i'm sure i'll come back like 3 days later and they'll be 10 lbs heavier.. Heh. I really hope i get one!!

that is one of my biggest problems about taking a long honeymoon is leaving our furbabies. I would leave a shirt or something that smells like you out for the cat to curl up in

I am worried about this too! I have a bunny (cocoa) and I can't be gone for more than a day or else he'll run out of food or hay. Luckily, my friend used to live with me and my bunny so she knows all about caring for him. And she already volunteered to watch Cocoa when we are gone!

Well, some of you know... I have 8 cats (and one snake)... so this is also a big concern for me! Hopefully one of my local friends will want to help out with this... I don't know who would want to clean the litterboxes! But of course, I will pay whoever does help out!

We have 4 dogs. We left 2 with his grandmother (they used to live with her so she's used to them), 1 with his brother and the the 4th we left with my gf. It worked out great for us.

I think we are planning on an outdoorsy adventure kind of trip for our honeymoon so that our "kids" can come with us. We have three dogs. Two are 10lbs or less, and the biggest is 40lbs. Because she is over 25lbs, she is often not allowed at hotels and such.

FH's mom watches his dog when we are out of town, and if the other two can't come with us, I usually board them at my vet. If my smallest girl wasn't so skittish (she was SEVERELY abused by her previous owners), we would go the pet-sitter route, but she is too scared and would try to run away, even with people she knows.

Oh my goodness I forgot about my bunny LOL. That wont be to big of a problem though cause everyone loves to come and just see her. Just mom and dad wont feed her or take care of her cause they are both allergic to her (the reason we got her lol) but I know fbil will love to care for her or even Sarah. Heck they bring her treats left and right anyways.

My furkid is coming with us. We are going to Key West, which is very dog-friendly. She's only 12 lbs. so I know it won't be a problem at the hotel.
