Wow, so as stated in my journal.. i wanted to make these with hat boxes, but b/c hat boxes are SOOO expensive i wound up building this from complete scratch

since this is the diy section.. ill include details and instructions as well as pictures..

Cut cardboard piece into loong strips as long as you might want.. cover with paper of your color/design
http://i82.photobucket.com/albums/j277/vanamarieG/IMGP1748.jpg - we used large scrapbook paper cut in half to gauge the height of each tier.

then glue (with gorrilla glue) the paper/posterboard to the wood circles (we used insides of embroidery circles) CLAMP FOR ABOUT TWO HOURS!!
http://i82.photobucket.com/albums/j277/vanamarieG/IMGP1751.jpg we only had two clamps so it took us all day/night

then i made tops for each layer by using posterboard (there is only about an inch all around so you dont see much.. i used white so the tape didnt show so much..
I taped the tops cuz it held better then glue

http://i82.photobucket.com/albums/j277/vanamarieG/IMGP1756.jpg you can see the top in this picture.. look at the left tier

I cut circles in them so the cards could slide down too. (cut in each top where no one could see.)

Stacked them and used hot glue to attach t the other tiers... http://i82.photobucket.com/albums/j277/vanamarieG/IMGP1755.jpg

attached ribbon with just a little glue
http://i82.photobucket.com/albums/j277/vanamarieG/IMGP1758.jpg

attached third tier and added some more ribbon, stickers and pearls to hide some tape and imperfection..
http://i82.photobucket.com/albums/j277/vanamarieG/IMGP1760.jpg

Then i cut a hole the size of a car in the top (although you can do it before attaching and then you might not slice your finger open .like me)

It's very pretty! Definitely a great alternative to the silly expensive pieces.
